4 Things to Consider Before Buying the Tissot PRX in 2024

  • I'm finally reviewing the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80, one of the most popular mechanical watches today. This is the 40mm blue dial version and I have 4 reasons why I think the Tissot PRX is still the best mid tier watch in 2024.
    Reason #1: The Bracelet
The PRX bracelet feels solid and well-made, integrating perfectly with the watch case and featuring a good taper to the butterfly clasp. Its brushed and polished links create amazing light play and a luxury feel rare in this price range.
    Reason #2: The Dial
The dial is the standout feature of the PRX. Its refined pattern adds depth and sophistication, making it a pleasure to check the time. The thin hour markers and minimal text give the watch a compact and well-constructed look.
    Reason #3: The Movement
Equipped with the Swatch Group Powermatic 80 movement, visible through the display case back, this automatic movement provides 80 hours of power reserve. It performs reliably over time, living up to the brand's standards.
    Reason #4: The Cool Factor
This watch feels luxurious on the wrist for a fraction of the price of high-end timepieces. Even NBA champ Klay Thompson rocks the PRX, proving you don't need a crazy price tag to have a celebrity-worthy watch.
    Amazon link $725: amzn.to/3xL7fWF
    Jomashop link $527: shorturl.at/rEvWJ
Overall, the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 has exceeded my expectations in terms of quality, comfort, and style. It's more than just a watch - it's a timepiece I enjoy and totally recommend in 2024.

Prx is undoubtedly the best among them, but why not Citizen as an alternative? I am a Tsuyosa owner and I am very pleased with it. It has a problem-free mechanism. I think Citizen meets the expectations more than enough. I don't think there are many differences between them.

I really cant complain about the Tsuyosa, it's a hell of a watch for the money. You get both good looks and reliable movement.

I have worries about the plastics parts in the movement, but I really like the waffle dial and the metal around the date. Do you think the movement is reliable despite the plastic parts? I wouldn't mind having to go exclusively to the official Tissot service in the future. The truth is that I always prefer to go to official services.

The plastic isn’t under hundreds of pounds of force. Plus it’s still a 2824, one of the most common movements ever made. Finding replacement parts during a service couldn’t be easier

I got the “Gentleman” quartz Titanium watch. How do you feel about some movements with plastic pallet fork?

    • @timepieceofart
      @timepieceofart  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Thank you for the question. Using plastic pallet fork might sound concerning, since escapements need the most maintenance because wears the most, regardless of material but using plastic in the escapement can actually require less frequent servicing because they need less lubrication and create less friction.
Nevertheless ,from what i know, Tissot and Swatch Service Centers often replace the whole movement during servicing. These used movements are then reconditioned and put back into other Tissot, Swatch, and even some Omega watches.
However, owning this watch for over two years now, i didn't notice any issues whatsoever. Regards

    yeah nah..
    1) the movement is non servicable due to Tissots modification to enable 80 hours power reserve on a budget with plastic parts inside .. why do you think do high end brands have 70-80 hours movements that cost 20 times more..
    2) the bracelet has NO micro adjustments which made is very uncomfortable for me while my wrist shrinks and expands during the day (work/freetime/sport/evening)
    3) the bracelet may look nice but is very think and feels cheap..
    4) the dial is nuce but the lume is garbage
    5) the lug to lug is absolutely ridiculous for the 40mm version its 54mm with the endlings.. thats like some invicta watch ☠️ it made my pretty average 6'5-6'7 wrist seem tiny because of the size of that thing.. i had to return the watch because of all these issues. the 35mm variant came much later but still had the movement problem .
    6) antireflective coating is lame. hard to see the time on the darker colors like blue and green
i got an Unimatic U1 for the same proce and it has solid bracelet with micro adjustments, much better AR coating and lume better by miles.. has only a seiko nh35 -42hours movement but is serviceble .. and built quality is much better. pretty close to a Tudor Black Bay 58

At the end, is a matter of personal preference, regarding the design. I agree that the use of plastic parts may be an issue in the future. Btw, I complement your choice of watches Unimatic U1 looks stunning, honestly i havent seen on "in the wild"😀

@@timepieceofart thnx mate, yes its a rare sight, built quaility is amazing for the price. the only negative thing is, the built quaoity comes with a weight.. adding the solid bracelet the watch is a bit heavy but i get used to it... another recent alternative to the PRX is the Citizen Super Titanium which looks even better than the PRX in my opinion but the clasp looks cheap..
