Growing up about 50 miles from the Purolator factory in NC, it's what we always used. I still use them today unless I am still in a warranty period.

There are a lot of "factors" involved as too how long a filter can do it´s job of filtering out impuraties....like older engins, engins with poor combustion, weather and typ of driving. A filter with too tight of mesh will clog up faster than one with a bigger weave. Independent test have shown that the old paper filters do a better job than the new synthetic ones. Keeping an EYE on the color of the oil is the best test of all! When you start to see BLACK CARBON in the oil then you know the filter is no longer doing it´s job and oil/filter needs to be changed.

I just can't trust any filter that has a synthetic filter media. Paper expands and swells, and that makes it more restrictive. You want the lowest flowing filter possible that just barely, barely flows oil. It's not clear if the Puralator is using OEM style natural wood paper pulp, or slippery non-restrictive fiberglass?

Yeah Purolator was putting out so many filters that would get rips in the filter media that the nickname for that brand became "Ripolator". The filter media gets rips in it right where the media meets the glue so unless you knew exactly where to look you could open up a used Ripolator filter and it the filter media would look fine but once you know where to look you discover the rips. One person I know removed his Ripolator filter at only 1200 miles and sure enough, it had the almost hidden rip right where the filter media meets the glue.
