  • All tests are conducted in a controlled environment. None of the test models are homemade, 3D-printed, or previously modified guns. This time we look at different barrel lengths to see which gives us the best accuracy.

    I was playing with the hop up in my stock Cyma m14 tonight. The barrel is something like 550mm and I'm running .32g and was shooting at 50m. I can definitely confirm, less hop definitely leads to better accuracy with long barrels.

    In Japan, We use short and loose inner barrels (over 6.10mm) and long surface hop up to avoid BBs bouncing inside of inner barrels. That’s the best way to increase accuracy under our strict regulations.

    Yes interesting and in relation to accuracy not running any hop will give better accuracy as it removes one variable out of the equation, I've had the same results, however without hop range is so badly affected that for use outdoors it's something that you have to have. I know airsoft pistol shooters trying to get maximum accuracy tend to run no hop up but targets are never really more than 15m away. Good to see the results you got. Again because airsoft guns are so inaccurate I tend to shoot no less than 10 shoots in a group and average it out. Keep up the good work.

    Need better compression out of the piston in the gear box once the barrel gets to a certain length, otherwise you lose power or acceleration. Other wise, despite what the airsoft community's typically believes, I also believe a longer barrel means slightly better accuracy but even better range.

    • @wosmahl
      @wosmahl ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sure becaues for longer barrel you need bigger cylinder volume = more air pushing the bb = more range. Or at least thats my reasoning. Ofc, is the range increase that big to justify longer and harder to handle weapon? Thats for each plaayer to decide

    Started playing this year. Not much can be done really but i like discovering new things. Maybe one fix is to evolce into more tic tac shaped rounds soneday.
    Im thinking if getting a small air pump and thin tubing, drilling pin holes in a sealed barrel-front and connecting the tobes to the holes. Im thinking that what if tgere was a pump pulling all the air and oressure out from in front of the bb in the barrel? Worth a look...

    Ideally you want half hop up and half barrel to keep spin so less wind effect to bbs, if it’s all barrel it’s more affected by wind.

    the stray shots going off target are probably from improper bucking mounting or the barrel turning if its not held by a c clip resulting in it turning the bucking inside a little or it could also be barrel imperfections both inside in the bore and in the machining that the bucking goes inside of

    Is fairly hard to have consistency, mainly because the projectile. Cut few bb in half and see the distribution of air pockets inside bb itself. I have done same experiment as this video but only 2 barrel: 310 and 450, both on vsr 10 g speak. But I am more interested for consistency of path of flight and long range , rather then grouping. I do not seek a headshot at 70 or 80 m or maybe at 90 or 100, in airsoft hiting the body is enough. Rare I seek the small target, in range of 50m to 60 m, when the target is hiding and maybe picking from behind cover. Then is crucial to have small area groups. My result, with extreme upgrades, maple leaf 70° , and EdGi 6.00 , bull-barrel. Aside vibration from piston should, that are send in to the system , the bb is the biggest unknown from the equation. Nice video

  • @M1NUSM3NSCH
    @M1NUSM3NSCH ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Biggest problem here is the Cylinder to Barrel Volume Ratio. You have to adjusted that by changing the Barrel length to get good results. Barrel too short and too much Volume, then you have bad accuracy because of uncontrolled pushing the bb after leaving the barrel. Volume too low for a too long barrel and the gun runs out of breath before the bb leaves the barrel, leading to uncontrolled bouncing of the bb inside the barrel. In this case, the gun is way more inaccurate with hop than without hop, because a hopped bb is waaay more in controllable if it bounces inside the barrel then a bb without hop.

    You should have keep the air pressure the same instead of trying to adjust the same fps for all 3 barrels, this will make the test more fair. Same fps means you have reduce the air pressure when testing the longer barrels, this may leave the BB which less air cushion while travelling down a longer barrel, which leads to inconsistencies.

    When you have shots that are over hopping then some under hopping that's a sign something is wrong with the hopup arm-nub-bucking and barrel window postion. The nub may not be pressing on the bucking patch the correct way. It may be off centered left-right or forward and backwards.

    Longer barrel = more FPS, need to compensate for FPS… It is up to certain point though, when cilinder gets to small. Harder to test, but important. Also use a more accurate replica: I suggest The scorpion EVO (sub machine gun version)
    Edit: scorpion evo shoots like a laser, 1.2J and 0.28gr bb it is like a laser, 60mtr range easy

  • @eternalfantasy86
    @eternalfantasy86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The hop-up bucking also acts to hold the BB at the correct position at the entrance of the barrel, so reducing it or turning it off completely actually introduces inconsistencies in the positioning of the BB at time of firing.

  • @mandyjones8443

    The reason the longer barrel didnt work is because of isaac newton's law plus air loss. That is.. longer barrel means more compression from the piston or longer stroke to compensate the pressure needed to leave the barrel. Or maybe a wider piston tho that would mean a complete customization for certain BB. Also how much back spin is lost as it travels out the longer barrel and Air loss as the BB is not a tight fit through the barrel. Its like arguing can i get my 1750 Musket to shoot accurately.. well no as it was the brass bullet shell casing that makes bullets accurate 999.9 % and changed guns forever from paper cartridges aswell as rifled barrels... think Airsoft then think Muskets and pistol

    Doesn’t longer length barrel equal lower fps?

    • @Antstar12
      @Antstar12 ปีที่แล้ว

      In AEGs changing barrel length can change the FPS if your cylinder volume doesn't correctly match your barrel volume. So for a longer barrel you need a larger cylinder so you're not under-voluming. In this case he's using a HPA system so he can control the volume of air and therefore the FPS. Also in Gas blow back systems a longer barrel increased FPS as it gives more time for the gas to expand increasing the time the BB has to accelerate.

    • @martinwoodcock7365

      hop unit is a device that applies adjustable pressure to the bucking. The bucking is a rubber tube like thing that protrudes in to the breech end of the barrel, how much is set by the hop unit. The overall effect is to give the bb some back spin, this creates lift (magnus effect) and thus extends the range dramatically

      There’s a cut off point for improvements/loss. It certainly is better than the very short barrel - but not better than the very long barrel right?

    • @kord2003
      @kord2003 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SwitchUpYt Yes. The most efficient way to increase accuracy is to use soft hop up bucking (maple leaf MR HOP 2021) for better spin with appropriate hop up nub (maple leaf omega) and heavy BBs.
      Increasing barrel length and using tight barrel can lead to negative results.
      Some people say that the quality of inner surface matters more then barrel length or inner diameter. I think it doesn't matter that much. The most important part of the barrel is a cut for hop up bucking. Bigger cut allows to use buckings with bigger patches which leads to more consistent spin -> longer range and better accuracy.

    • @SwitchUpYt

      @@SwitchUpYt Most manufacturers don't care about range and accuracy because it's hard to measure so it won't sell a gun. Also there are so many myths in airsoft! Even experienced airsoft techs doing stupid builds, like installing expensive aluminium parts and precision barrels but putting purple prometheus or green G&G because "it was good back in the days" but now it's total shit comparing to modern hop up buckings.
