He does this to teach a linear model. Yes, you can use simple maths to solve this, however, if you do this with a more complicated model, you'd have a heck of a time doing it with "simple maths". Simple maths doesn't work everywhere and this linear model helps with a large range of problems.
Guys, you're totally missing the point here. He's not trying to teach you how to find the number of pages of a book. He's trying to teach how to build a linear model and what you can use it for. He just chose a simple question to explain the concept, that's all.
couldn't you have done 55*4= 220 and then take 220+ 330, because 220 is how many pages he has read, and get 550 and the just divide that by 55 and get 10.....a whole lot simplier....
Great video! Thanks a lot for your efforts... However i have a question, i have received a task from my teacher which is to create a model and present it to the class. The models my teacher has solved is similar to the one in this video which is pretty short so i dont know what might be the thing i need to do here is there anything else we can do with a model that makes it more complex and suitable for a homework ? I hope i explained myself clearly here xd
what ever gets the job done. however, there is something profound to be said about efficiency and simplicity. therefore, WHY would i want to do this through such a long process? I really enjoy math, but I really hate doing things the harder longer way just because. What is the reason for doing simple math algebraically? Not smart assing, looking for a legit answer.
Jesus! Why are you trying to make this hard for your viewers! It’s a simple math! (55*4+330) = number of pages. Number of pages/55 = number of hours to read at the rate of 55 per page.
He was teaching about linear modelling, not the literal problem. I mean, i get you. I'm pretty angry that we have to learn about this in some inconvenient way when it can just be simplified. Don't get mad at the professor though, it isn't his fault that linear programming exists. Plus, you were thw one who clicked on the video, presumably to learn how to do linear modelling and not to complain about how stupif linear modelling is.
For the people complaining about how difficult he’s making it and you can just do simple maths, some teachers (mine included) make us do it this way!

Some problems can't be solved unless you do it this way

(55x4)+(330)=550 and 4 hours+(330/55=6 hours)=10 hours

so when you do another video like this you should do multiple questions so then we can get more knowledge from it
But this was really helpful!
you can also divide the total pages of the book by the average pages per hour to get the time
Just know 55x4=220+330=550 and then do 550/5=10
that is 110
Couldn't we add the pages we figured out that he read, plus the amount he has left?

Amazing
🎉
I rlly think he made that way more complicated than it is. 4h(55p) = -330 make -330 = 0 divide by rate per hour (55h)
You should divide 550 by 55 than 330 It also give us required answer
if we send you questions would u solve them
I still dont understand as much on khan academy

Exactly its linear modeling he’s not trying to solve it the simple way
this video is horrible smh
