- All your friends will want one! Want to know how to transform your USB or charger cable into something gorgeous? All you need is a hook and a little bit of yarn - time to raid your yarn stash! This is a quick project, a great stash buster. Let me show you how to decorate your charger cable in this step by step crochet tutorial. The cable is crocheted in one go, with one piece of yarn, to keep this pattern as simple as possible. You'll only have to deal with the tail from the beginning and the tail from the end, easy.
You can add flowers to the vine when you finish. I used my sweet & simple flower pattern for mine (also made using a 3mm hook to keep them a little smaller): • How to Crochet Small F...

I used:
Hook: 3mm
Yarn: 4 Seasons Marvel 100% Acrylic 8 ply in lime (DK yarn is also called Australian 8 ply or light-worsted yarn or light yarn or no. 3 yarn! So many names, same thickness of yarn 😊)

Struggling to get the yarn attached to the cord? My other charger cover video uses a different method, you might find it easier

This tutorial was really helpful, I am a total beginner but was able to make this
I’m so pleased you were able to make one of your own 🙂 It’s such a fun project, I hope you’re really pleased with yours - and thank you, I’m glad you found my video helpful. I hoped it would be a project that beginners would be able to make, so you’ve really made my day ☺️☺️ Wheelie👩🏻🦼
Great tutorial, I love the results and might need to do this to all my charging cords!
It is rather addictive. My brother has asked me to cover a 20m fibre cable 😂 I think even my love of covering cables may be used up by the time I finish! 🤣😂
Followed your amazing tutorial to decorate my charger cable and the result is so cute! I love it, thank you sooo much!
I’m so happy to hear it turned out well for you! Thank you for your lovely comment, you made my day!! ☺️☺️☺️👩🏻🦼 Wheelie
You are literally amazing I love this pattern and how you presented it
Aw ☺️🥰 thank you so much! Wheelie x
Love this!! 😍
Thank you! 😃 😃 👩🏻🦼
Thats so cute.
Thank you! I love making them - Wheelie 👩🏻🦼
This tutorial was awesome! I'm brand new to crochet (only made a square), and my cord looks just like yours :))
Wow, you must be a bit of a natural! Thanks so much for letting me know you liked the pattern - you’ve made my day 😃😃 I’m making one of them right now, as a Christmas gift 🎄👩🏻🦼Wheelie
This is really beautiful and a great tutorial 🎉
Thank you so much! You’ve made my day 🌸 Wheelie x
Tysm for the great tutorial! I‘m german and sometimes its hard to follow english tutorials, but you did amazing!!
I’m so glad you were able to follow it! I appreciate you letting me know - danke schön 😊 👩🏻🦼Wheelie
Thanks so much for this video! it was very helpful :)
I used a merino wool (because the colour was exactly what i was looking for) and that also worked quite well!
Thank you so much ☺️ I’m really pleased the pattern turned out well for you - and so interested to hear about the merino wool! I’ve actually just been given an enormous bag full of pure wool yarn (isn’t that about the best hand-me-down ever?) and have been planning some projects, so you have perfect timing. I’d be really interested to hear how your charger cord ‘wears’ over time - I’ve found the cord covers made with 100% cotton yarns stay looking good for a lot longer than those made with acrylic, at a guess I think that wool will last well too. Hope you have a great weekend (with time to crochet) 👩🏻🦼Wheelie
so cute and simple! i'm using medium weight yarn bc that's what i have lying around, and a 4mm hook instead of 5mm like i normally would. it's looking great so far :-)
Hey Katie - I’m so glad you like the pattern 😃 and thank you for letting me know it’s working well with medium weight! I use DK because that’s what most of my stash is, I’ve never tried making it with medium, so I’m really interested to know how it works out. Wheelie
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I followed it and did my first cable. Few mistakes in spacing but I'm happy. Going to do some flowers next to attach. ❤
Hi Tammy, I’m so pleased the video was helpful - congrats on making your first cable cover 😃😃 Good luck with the flowers - and thank you for the lovely message ☺️ just in case you run into difficulty, I’ve had a few people ask for a video on how I attach the flowers and that will be up within a few days. Happy crocheting! 👩🏻🦼Wheelie
@@wheeliemadeitcrochet thank you again, I will watch for the new video
i would only say that, since this is a cable cover, acrylic yarn might not be smart. If it gets damaged it could short and cause a fire, and acrylic will only make the cable more flammable. Natural fibers will be better for this if ur concerned about this
Thank you for the tip! Much appreciated 😊😊
Any tips for left hand? I'm going to have to do this all backwards.... any tips please!
Hi Jasmine - It must be frustrating when there’s not a good quality left handed video available for the project you’re interested in!! Do you watch TH-cam through the TH-cam app? There’s an extension you can install called ‘YT Mirror’ that will let you view *any* right-handed crochet video as a left handed video. There’s some info about it here: chromewebstore.google.com/detail/yt-mirror/nokjcgeafjfhlbclmmgfeiiebgjfollb?pli=1
Let me know if that doesn’t help because I *think* I could use my editing program to flip this video to mirror image and upload it again as a left handed version. I’ve never done it before but I’d be happy to give it a go. It may mean that there’s some mirrored words that I’ll need to blur/cover up, as I don’t have the original footage anymore, only the finished version. So it wouldn’t be perfect but if you can’t get the extension working it’ll be worth a try - this is a fun project :)👩🏻🦼❤️ Wheelie
How did u attach the flowers?
I sewed them on to the leaves close to the cord - I used the same colour yarn as for the leaves and kept the stitches hidden in the underside of the flowers 😊👩🏻🦼
is this a fire hazard?
Hi there 😊 I’ll put the disclaimer of ‘I’m not an electrician, just a crocheter’ on this, so if you are really worried you might want to look into it further, but I genuinely don’t think this is a fire hazard. USB charger cords don’t heat up so wrapping yarn around them isn’t trapping the heat. The yarn is just wrapped around the outside of it, it’s not in contact with any of the wire. I certainly wouldn’t wrap a damaged cord, cords that are frayed or damaged shouldn’t be used at all let alone decorated, they are definitely a fire hazard in themselves. I hope that helps 😊 All the best 😊 Wheelie 👩🏻🦼
that’s what I assumed but my mom was worried :)
i made my charging cord into the vine but i think I might redo it with a different color and spacing
I’m glad I was able to reassure her and you’re trying it out 😊
If you’re looking for other ideas (as it sounds like you haven’t got it looking quite how you want yet) I have another charger cover video, with little heart shaped leaves 💚
th-cam.com/video/S0FFV4tWhFk/w-d-xo.html
I’ve also sewn crocheted mushrooms onto one (I haven’t perfected it so no video but you could experiment) and I’m experimenting with berries - like with the heart shaped leaves you create little points for them to attach while you’re covering the cord and then crochet or sew them on after… You can tell I love making these 😆
I hope you end up happy with your cord, let me know how you go 😁👩🏻🦼
Doing this today :) I’ll tag you on insta
Thank you! I’m looking forward to seeing it! I hope your charger crocheting goes well 😊👩🏻🦼Wheelie
