My mom followed my dad around to rodeos as he chased his dream being a bareback and saddlebronc rider in the late 60's early 70's. He was her cowboy. She was a city girl from Omaha and he was a rough cut farm boy from Bennington, NE. I think of this song when I think of how she waited to hear anything from him while he fought in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Their story is truly like a country fairy tale. When she was dying of Ovarian Cancer we would talk about all of their dreams they had when young and in love. He was killed when I was 9 in 1987. So she was looking forward to seeing her cowboy again and she finally did on 2-10-15 in the early morning. This song is their story and as I write this I am looking through tears. See you soon mom and dad.

Cried like a baby when he sang this at a festival, I took my mom to the festival with me and my buddy. I got home from a deployment months before, the song just made me how lucky I was to come back to my best friend and my lovely mother. I’ll do it all again in a heartbeat.

I feel like singers such as Houser, Chris Young, and Justin Moore are a few of the very few country singers now days who actually try to keep that good old country sound to a song. Country now a days is so mainstream and poppy. Cowboys wear nice fitted jeans sure, bit some of these hippies look like they are wearing leggings and over priced dress shoes with pretty hair that took them an hour to do!
Toby Keith also sings songs like that, but he comes out with songs every once in a while.

Every time I hear this guy sing I think it's Brooks & Dunn. Did the same thing with How Country Feels. I love this guys music, he's definitely country w/o the hype. Us real country folk want to hear songs that we can relate to, horses, love, God, etc.

If this is not a #1 or at least breaks the Top 5, there is seriously even MORE wrong with the modern country music scene than we all originally thought. THIS is the BEST country song of 2014 so far, by far. A true country song with great meaning. And this video is top notch. I give this song a 10/10.

They ain't playing this song on Houston radio no more because I haven't heard it in weeks and I drive 200 miles a day 100 to work and 100 back home. I listen to country and never hear this song anymore. Does Houston Texas really suck that bad.
93 Q and "THE BULL" just love to play them some Jason Aldean or Sam freakin Hunt. Who isn't even country. Thank God I live farther north, and can get 99.7 Kstar, which plays mostly real country music all the time. Even heard this on there a while back. I just don't feel like I'm in Texas when I'm in Houston.

If this doesn't make it to #1, then mainstream country is beyond redemption.
Currently, Sam Hunt's pop hit, "Leave the Night On," is #1, and Jason Aldean's lame R&B hit, "Burnin' It Down," is #2. Country music once had heart and soul, but now fans want cheap, vapid ear candy.
By the way, it rose this week from #32 to #30 on the Billboard Hot Country chart, so it is currently at its highest position...even though it was released months ago. Some songs can break late, but I'm not too hopeful given the current state of country music.
Not saying your aren't right... however, isn't it the job of "entertainers" to give their audience what they view as "entertainment"? if Fans want vapid ear candy then what you prefer is considered the fringe and not mainstream
Jay Crter That's a good question and observation. The mainstream of country was once (not long ago) Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson. So, yes, I am on the fringe now, but that is because the culture has shifted in a narcissistic direction. And, yes, music is definitely entertainment, but it is also artistry. I have nothing against an occasional party tune (tailgates, longnecks, etc.), but when the radio is nothing more than that...then our culture is desperately sick. As a result, men are no longer men but adolescent boys.

We had guys like Vern Gosdin, Earl Thomas Conley, John Conlee and Keith Whitley to name a few that were great, and then came Garth and Tim and changed the style of country. But today it's such bullshit with this new country rap crap! Jason Aldean was pretty good until this latest lame ass shit!

I lived this life for about 10 years. It started in my early 20s. I would leave every fall to go wrangle and guide in the mountains. Those 100 days felt like forever. Living on a horse, in the mud and rain. Best time of my life. Change me as a man, made me better everyday. But coming home to my lady was better yet. Love the song and video. I love the west. Totally different scenery with mountains and desert. I drove a truck over the road, all lower 48 states, for almost 2 yrs. Furthest West I was before trucking was Indiana , lol. I'm local now, home daily. Driving through the mountains and desert was great. The air is clean, beautiful scenery and just being out there pretty much alone was very relaxing, puts you at peace with God and nature. Need to go out west on vacation as much as possible . Awesome song, I thought was Ronnie Dunn singing. I'm hearing it all the time on the radio, so kick it in gear and climb up the charts. Good to hear some real songs rather than the punk country that's so common. Keep it up!

Song reminds me of my steel horse cowboy. I know no matter how much you say you are happy with a job that has you home every night, eventually the desire to explore new places will get you again. And no matter what happens when you are gone, I know you always come home to me, like a cowboy. Have to laugh now, seeing this video, because we thought this was Ronnie Dunn when we heard it on the radio the other morning.

T Bog It's nice that someone agrees with me. When I first heard this song, I thought it was Ronnie Dunn as well, (because of his solo career). It 100% sounds like a song he would and should have sung when he was still with Kix. Ronnie is amazing by himself, but he was also great together with Kix, they had great harmonies and individual voices. Brooks and Dunn were some of the first Cd's I had growing up in the 90's and I grew up on that great music.
