    Love that people still enjoy the Crossfire! Always my favorite set up!

    It's cool to see someone doing something with these. Have you thought of blocking the water passage across the bottom of the intake? I always wanted to try a carburetor or two on top a custom top plate, you know of anybody that's ever done that? The lower intake on a 96-99 350 vortec truck engine is almost identical to a crossfire.

    • @ratherbeboating10
      @ratherbeboating10  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first build was a 2000 vortec truck actually lol. The biggest problem with those from what I recall is having the injector assembly inside the plenum. It otherwise had a decent port to work with.
      For the water passage, I had thought of cutting back and welding it. The issue then becomes you cant really drop the floor of the runner with its original shape and maintain a good shot at the intake port... basically it would be flat. The renegade solves this by still having a tapper. While not impossible to do, the flow present in the manifold at its current state is adequate for the current engine, pending my welder finishing up the tweaks.
      As far as someone running a carb, I think you would have to space the lid higher. The fuel already has a tendency to slam into the floor trying to make the turn on the lid that I think adding a carb would make it worse especially at transient throttle. I know someone did hack one up for a blower but, I don't think I have seen a carb on a CFI intake.

    If you want to polish fit go up to 2000 2500 grit until it's really smooth

      You don’t want a smooth mirror finish. That will reduce fuel atomization.

    Thought there was a mod were you could use a better ecm with this engine, supposedly the oem computer wasn't fast enough to handle performance modifications.

      You actually can't find any at all since the tooling was pulled. Last I checked the stocks all are gone. So at this point this is the only option.

    you mention a few times a 1205 and 1206 gasket. What are they from or which are you refering to? I am in the middle of porting one and was just going to get the standard crossfire gaskets for my 1984 vette. Is there a better set to use?

    • @ratherbeboating10
      @ratherbeboating10  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My aftermarket heads are matched to a 1205 felpro gasket but should run a 1206. The stock crossfire heads are about the size of the stock gasket and is what I would run on a stock engine as it has the flow restriction on the rear coolant port and provisions for an egr passage. A 1205 and the stock gasket are about the same size. I would have no issues running a stock gasket on my old setup. The stock one is perfectly fine to use imo. So go with it. 👍

      @@Joesmusclecargarage Yeah. The original owner of DCS has the tooling in his hands but finding a foundry that will cast it and at a reasonable unit cost is keeping him from pulling the trigger. Upwards of 2k per is just unreasonable. He is curious how my rig will run with this though. He said and I quote: it has to be better than what's on there.
      I'm feeding what should be a roughly 400hp mill with a stock unit so I have to agree with him on that.

    I never realized the stock intake had holes crossing over to the adjacent runners. That must cause a lot of turbulence.

    • @ratherbeboating10
      @ratherbeboating10  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does and doesn't. On the flow bench it does flow less uncorked but the flow distribution between runners... the standard deviation, is pretty tight.

  • @mcqueenfanman
    @mcqueenfanman ปีที่แล้ว

    These crossram intakes aren't worth the effort, your best bet is to ditch the 2x1bbl tbi units and just use a 2bbl. truck tbi unit with a conventual dual plane intake. Tbi systems don't run the greatest with long runners, 90* turns into ports, and large plenums.
