  • Here's the step by step on how to build a DIY Drum Isolation Booth / drum cage for practice or recording. This project took me about a weekend to complete and was pretty economical $450-500. Check it out and let me know what you think!

    Thank you so much, been looking for ways to soundproof my son's while bedroom. This looks much more achievable... and way cheaper! I might double-glaze the Plexiglas Windows though.

    O dang this is pro. I’m needing something a little less. But this is still a good DIY

    cool project. I'm going to follow your lead, change it up a bit. I am going to try bifold closet doors, tear them open, fill 'em with this wool you list here, glue 'em back up, six two foot doors linked up into one hexagon, on an perimiter of 12 feet for a base and roof, then design a skirt to hang over made of moving blankets, then create inserts of burlap covered wool that velcro together inside to cover the doors and the roof, of course also wool inside the floor... No window needed, going to use it for a mini drum booth plus a vocal chamber. Just have to figure out how to make one door an entrance. Throw it on rubber mounts... not touching the floor or wall or ceiling. Should do the trick. Love this video it was inspiring man. I'm going to build it with masking tape and string hung from the ceiling before hand to make sure I can fit while playing. I might have to expand it. But I want it to be very portable and easy to dismantle and move. Biggest pieces will be two half circles for the base and two more for the ceiling, but also I have to fit my Mackie D8B somehow, too... We'll see. It works in my mind. Reality can be a bitch though, my basement apartment's ceiling is only 74 inches, yikes. Whole thing has to be six feet tall, and fit my drumkit, D8B, and my flailing arms. Maybe I will switch to an octagon to maximize the 12 foot perimeter.

    Looks like Rock Wool insulation, which is available at HD.

    Do you happen to know what STC rating you achieved, or what the difference in dB is between inside and outside?

    So if the sound gets reflected off the drywall what is the purpose of the Roxul behind the drywall? What is it absorbing? More mass using two layers drywall on resilient channel is what is needed.

    Can you share the dimensions of the sections as well as the finished piece? I am trying to do something similar in modular fashion for the garage.

    Bad ass, love the idea. Do you have a video of playing inside and how the sound absorption went?

      Jeremy Aubin thanks, bro! I don’t have a video, but I might have some recordings 😁

    Hey question first dope video on the drum booth it looked really dope,effective, and efficient so my question how much did this cost for you and where did you get your instillation from? I’m juss doing some research and gathering my ideas together so I can come up with a plan that works for me

    which kind of glass did you use?

    Okay but how well did it work? Like total isolation? Play your drums at midnight while everyone sleeping?

      thats not really the goal of this type of structure. its to isolate it from other instruments for recording in a small space.

    Simple? Put together in a weekend? I admire your handyman and carpentry skills but I don’t posses those unfortunately

    Hey what are the measurements for the panels ?

    • @montymccune201
      @montymccune201  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      don't know the dimensions of the panels. I'm a bit over 6' and I could stand with a bit of clearance. However, it's your drum booth, so make it however :)

    The most important part of the video everyone wants to hear is not on it!! How it actually worked.

    Its rockwool

  • @andyk.199

    guys you will kill Your drummer , this wool is rockwool , so it is not healthy for breathing inside the both!!! Make some research about installing these type of wool or get some eco wool like sheep or recycled cotton , if You want one side open and covered with fabric !!! Point is that very small peaces are going trough fabric when moving , what happen with sound vibration!!

      Lots of professional studios use this insulation with no issues.

    • @mikoajdobber2425
      @mikoajdobber2425 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrandNebSmada yep, you should use mask while installing these, and also maybe use some kind of stretch foil to cover the wool. Once little rock wool fibers go into your lungs you are stuck with them inside for a long long time.

      It’s called Rockwool “Safe & Sound”. Body will process and expel if ingested. Not like fiberglass or asbestos.
