Wiped to Cyrus 1 on my first attempt. Would've been so much easier if it weren't for the Ace Trainers leading up to Celestic Town. Those were legitimately the toughest fights I've ever had in Pokemon (oh and also I've never played Platinum before in my life, so I had no idea what to expect)
My team that was supposed to fight Cyrus, but was nearly all lost to the Ace Trainers outside of Celestic Town
      Gardevoir
      Crobat
      Gyarados
      Jolteon
      Monferno
      Duskull
And only Jolteon survived those battles

At this point every run of a Pokémon game I do is nuzlocke. Just makes it way more enjoyable. Haven’t played ORAS or RSE in years and been having a good time experiencing AS again recently. Just adds a little bit of flavor to an otherwise easy steamroll of a game.

@@yayayayayaya8140 I played through Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire a couple years ago, doing a normal playthrough for the former and a Wonderlocke for the latter. Both were really enjoyable but the Wonderlocke was so much more fun. I liked my team for the former more just because I wasn’t limited by Nuzlocke rules so I was able to get Hydreigon for the Elite Four, but the latter made me a really big fan of Swalot and Walrein, the two unexpected MVPs of the playthrough and the sole survivors.

Finally someone that recognizes that Gen 7 was actually pretty hard, hell even on a casual playthrough I had troubles with that game, US/UM specifically is inherently harder than S/M, which itself is a challenging game to begin with. The game holds your hand through the story, but not so through the battles.
Sidenote: I think Gen 7 gets a lot of undeserved hate, it was a great step-up from Gen 6, and if the hand holding was handled better, I think Gen 7 would honestly sit alongside Gen 4 and 5 as one of the best.

Finally someone who recognizes Red and Blue for what they truly are. People complain about X and Y being easy, yet they praise Red and Blue because "high difficulty." Red and Blue are the easiest pokemon games by far. First blind playthrough, only 6 times a pokemon in my party fainted and I was underleveled with no items, and the underleveled I mean is 10 full levels below Blue's Venusaur. Also, at least in X and Y, the AI isn't stupid as fuck. Red and Blue may have been good for their time, but they don't hold up, especially in the difficulty category.

@Tony Ochoa One of the things that bothers me the most is the fact that people will go on and on about whichever pokemon game being bad. I mean, really though, none of them are bad (Gen 8 is a little iffy), but they're all good for different reasons, whether it be the nostalgia talking, or their personal experience with the game. There is no perfect pokemon game. Red and blue were a great start for the series but they don't hold up so well now and then something like X and Y, the hype for those games were crazy and they really felt like the next big step into pokemon games and what they could become. Ngl, it doesn't feel great when people are just hating on your fav gen. I like white best as it was what I started with and I've met so many people who just want to tell me why it's the worst. No pokemon game is "the worst" or bad. I like all the gens, not the same but I still like them, for different reasons.

Have to agree with you about platinum being harder, in general, compared to diamond and pearl. BUT the champion battle in diamond/pearl is significantly harder. You breeze through the elite four, but then you hit Cynthia and her lvl 66 garchomp. Not only that, but her team’s levels are higher than platinum’s and spiritomb comes with embargo, preventing you from using x-items. The last thing I want to mention is if you don’t level up 1-2 Pokemon along with not getting the legendary, it takes FOREVER to grind and reach to cynthia’s level and you really need to lol. Just a rant, but I found the champion battle to be one of the hardest parts within diamond/pearl nuzlocke and/or the entire series.

The game mechanics themselves already put a limit on your number of available pokemon (just do only one encounter in the pokespots in XD). I normally don't count deaths until after purification since the movesets can't be changed, they hurt themselves, waste turns, etc. Also, purification is when you become the OT and get to nickname them. Plus, randomizer and rom hack options are there too. Pokemon XG is a cool hack to check out.

Yes you can set up and sweep every fight with one Pokémon, but it's not that much different from any other gen, Emerald for example I've managed to sweep the Elite 4 with level 45 Gardevoir and on another run with level 45 Breloom just by setting up calm mind / bulk up
Anyhow back to Leon - I have absolutely god awful track record of fighting him. The first time I was 10 levels below his team and got wiped on like on like Haxorus. Second attempt I came back at a bit higher level and lost to charizard. Fast forward 12 months - Crown Tundra comes out and I decided I want a masterball to catch the other horse and regi. Grabbed 3 level 65 pokemon from the dynamax adventures (Scolipede, Galarian mr mime and metang) and started beating the game with them. By the time I've reached Leon these 3 were level 75 the 3 pokmeon I caught in galar were level 60... And I yet again lost to Leon ^^' on my first attempt

(to be fair, I was used to overleveling and that time instead I just rushed).
Kinda surprised for having Platinum right next to BW2, Cynthia is definitely a challenge but it's just the champion, compared to the League in BW in which EVERYONE kicks ass and double (and triple) battles tend to be more difficult, also I think Platinum has Leppa Berries which are a cheap way to restore PP? Just finished a hardcore nuzlocke of Ruby. I picked Treecko and had 2 runs die because of Wattson's Magneton. No items and no consistent check really made him a nightmare.

welp, i was surprised u put S&M and US&UM so high on the ranking, i played them with nuzlocke rules no overleveling as my first two nuzlockes games and gone through them without any major problems...

Something I’d like to see is how to properly prepare for nuzlockes, like a series explaining common game knowledge and explaining it deeper?
