  • On Friday, March 31st, 2023, Frankie and I travelled across Arkansas documenting several tornadoes. One of the stronger tornadoes we observed struck the town of Wynne, Arkansas.
    This EF3 was on the ground for 70 miles and inflicted severe damage in the town of Wynne.
    My heart goes out to those impacted, those who lost friends and family and more in this tragic storm.

    I was in Amory with a disaster clean-up when the news came in about Wynne. Many of the volunteers were watching the chasers that sure and unfortunately some were from Wynne or had family there. They were kept safe by being out of town but leaving to an area of uncertainty back home. God bless you for all you do. We all depend on you. Will keep you in my prayers.

I've seen an EF2 (I was actually almost in the middle of the actual funnel!), and while terrifying, it still formed a distinct funnel shape and wasn't even close to the strength of the "bigger" ones ... like the EF4s and 5s. I thought an EF3 would be somewhere in between a 2 and 4..but still a very distinct, fat funnel shape. In this video, the tornado doesn't appear to be funnel-shaped but more of a wedge.
      Anyway, I'm going off what I visually thought an EF3 tornado would look like...not the actual strength of it or the damage it would do.

      @@paulpienkowski498 I've seen probably thousands of tornado videos, plus I saw a significant funnel in MN my ownself. Only one other video can I recall seeing that kind of a green sky. It was the Limestone AL tornado. But all of the big tornadoes, Joplin, Moore, Tuscaloosa--the sky is mostly shades of gray. Well truthfully, Joplin was just straight dark blue gray to pitch black. The lighting was that of midnight. Terrifying. I mean I'm not accusing, but anyone who is familiar with broadcast journalism knows of color gradient technologies. Yes, I know that green skies, I've seen many, represent the way that the sun reflects off of the icy hail shafts. The same phenomenon is seen in glaciers. Further the green sky imaged through the one cam in this video was very dark, it looked almost like night. The other cam (non-green) showed a far lighter sky. And far more brightly illuminated ground lighting as well. The other cam (non-green) looked more like ground truth.

    A number of tornadoes are pretty photogenic but this one was a big ugly blob.

  • @cefcat5733
    @cefcat5733 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Could you not stay further away and get better photo equipment and just zoom or is this what is already happening? Your lives are more valuable alive, especially after the storm subsides. Stay safe.

      There are absolutely situations where it is not needed to get close.
      In this situation, the rain bands wrapping around the tornado made it very difficult to see.
      However, upon getting close it’s much easier to see and track.
      This was also a situation where storm motion was clearly left to right, allowing us to approach safely from the south.

      They seemed to know what they were doing. You can see traffic coming from the direction of the tornado so that’s good enough for me!

      @@wxzachary ok Zachary. Good to know. Maybe you have to give your coordinates and you have experience, but what about huge hailstones and slippery highways at that speed? I even consider motor trouble. We were always glad to be in the basement. Once I watched the storm all night for tornadoes, each time lightning lit the sky. Some roofing flew away that night. That was before the time of tornado sirens and weather radar. I can't trust such a force, to follow a direction and not change it's path. Cars coming out of it were just lucky, but Storm Chasers enjoy it somewhat. That's another thing. It is always fascinating to observe hot and cold air clouds meeting each other. I've seen damage first hand and warned people about what I saw, out of my kitchen window and to get their kids inside. Good luck in all your ventures.

    Oddly, no power flashes or images of destruction . . .

    • @jonasvalero
      @jonasvalero ปีที่แล้ว

      Cause it already cut out the power and then it was wrapped in rain. There is destructive damage where the tornado made it's path, it's just Zach cut out the video right before it.

    • @wxzachary
      @wxzachary  ปีที่แล้ว

      The power was cut pretty quick on this one.… Have you seen the images from town? The damage was pretty destructive.

    There must be some purpose to chasing these storms around but I’ve yet to understand what that purpose is. Anyone care to help me out and explain?

    • @paulpienkowski498
      @paulpienkowski498 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun. Interest in weather. Hobby. People chase for the same reason people hike and ski. Some are scientists studying storms for better warning systems. Different reasons for chasing from everyone, I assume.

      @@paulpienkowski498 Thanks for the reply. I still don’t get it but to each his/her own I suppose. What do you tell the boss, “sorry, I’ve got to go, there’s big tornado up in Kansas and I need to chase it”? To me it seems like chasing ambulances or fire trucks around to see how much death and destruction you can observe.
