Foam Crafting a Predator Mask

- After tackling a couple of postponed builds, I figured it was about time to knock the dust off this Predator mask and finish it up. It has been sitting for about 6 months and I got some modifications made to it to finish. For this build, I used: 6 mm, 4 mm, and 2 mm EVA foam, 20 mm EVA half dowels, 15 mm and 10 mm EVA triangle dowels, LEDs, LED eye kit with battery, contact cement, super glue, Plasti Dip, spray paint, rub-n-buff, and some Plaid FX acrylic paints. You may also need the following tools: a heat gun, a Dremel with various bits, and an Exacto knife or box cutter. Excellent build!! Backer rod is an inexpensive "dread lock" either raw or wrapped in fluffy yarn - found in big box home improvement stores. Could even attempt to mount on a foam skull cap to make it wearable. Thank you Thomas!! I will be undertaking this prop challenge! 👍👍
Thanks for the tip. I locked at a couple options and most seemed a bit much. And once I looked at what people were charging to make the legit ones, it was a hard pass
I came over to the comments suggest the backer rods myself You beat me to it by a few months. LOL 100' of the foam cylinders are about $12 on Amazon.

Congratulations on the channel... Excellent!!! You are one of the few who teach how to make the projects and make it available (free download for everyone to try to do it at home... It's a shame, youtubers who make tutorials and don't provide the project link for people to try to do at home If I could in a single video I would give you 10 likes. Amazing build! I’ve only ever seen the first 3 predator films but really enjoyed them. Your version is more than appropriate as they weee all individuals and customised their kit as they sore fit to do.
I think it is super cool how the franchise keeps putting out different versions of similar form factors.

This is great. I have been thinking about a Predator mask for a while and that foam backer rods would work well vs foam dowels to keep the cost down for that many.
That's what someone else suggested. I went online and looked at legit ones that people make and it was going to be several hundred dollars. I know they are not easy to do the real way but man that was an eye opener.
You could potentially do armature wire and dowls to make the dreads.. they may not flow but it'll look good as display
I thought about that. If I was to do them, I would want it to be mobile

It wouldn't be a Muchprops prop without a lot of battle damage would it? I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with multiple projects sitting unfinished for months before I get around to finishing them. Fantastic video as always!

For the tentacles, couldn't you use the foam dowel rods with the automotive wiring harness sheaths that are black and woven? I'd think that could pull off a great look
Sounds like a viable option. I would just wonder about the mobility of them.
@@MuchProps yea that part I'm not to sure of just cause I don't know the flexibility of the foam dowels by themselves, but you could also melt some nylon cord between sections of the foam dowels to get them more flow if you wrap them in the sheaths?

What would you add to it so you could wear it. Your video is the best one on making it. I have been wanting to make a full predator suit.
I thought that it would be a cool idea to get one of those predator latex masks and wear one of these over the top of it.
An idea I have for the dreads is that you can use foam dowels.
I thought of that too. But they would need a weight added to them fir movement and I would need to get some low density ones as most are a bit too rigid

If you are trying on a phone or tablet it is because they don't support the file type. You can go to the app store of you device and download a PDF reader extension. This should fix your problem
