you can make the shield always visible if you want. There is a setting to change shield visibility right below the "Shield Look" option. I normally hop in a seat attached to my station, zoom out, set shield visibility to "always visible", then while Im still in the seat i adjust the shield size so I can see where the shield is protecting eliminating the guess work. Also the shield is only visible from the outside even when it's set to "always visible", that's why I zoom out as far as I can. The bigger the shield the more HP it has for some reason but it also eats more power.
Glad to see a shield installed. That should make it quite a bit easier to survive the next Reaver attack with minimal damage. There's quite a bit of content out there on ways to build "3D Printers" to print up large ship/vehicle blueprints. At least for me, I'd think there would be way more time involved with building the original just the way you want it, than to build/set up the printer. I like how some have used a projector with a blueprint of their ship, and strategically placed welders to auto-repair their ship if damage happens in combat or whatever. An example would be placing a welder in the middle of a thruster cluster, or even near a turret. Since turrets get targeted a lot, having a ship self-repair it's weapons and supply conveyors would be a big plus.
Yes, blueprints and welders are definitely the way to go for the big ships. I've mostly used projector ships to "pull" a blueprint out of a weld wall and have had mixed results. Maybe now is the time to build a dedicated piston system rather than a ship :)
from what I've seen, it's a balance of speed and welder placement. In the case of using a piston, getting the speed just right so as not to go too fast and miss pieces, or too slow and the welder gets caught in/on something just welded. Another option for welding/repair helpers could be the nano-bots (unsure if that's a mod) but from what I've seen, they seem to work better (reliable) than the repair drones. Unsure how their range compares to the drones.
Hi Josh. Im not near your experiens with moods but if you dont know ‘Industrial Overhaul’ you should try. I Bet it will conflict with alot of your mods right now so in a nother game . And sorry if I missed you already have talked about it 😊
Next time you're building component hungry blocks, just pipe to that block and place a welder block, it will build up as the parts are made by assembler. will save you a lot of back and forth placing components
I gotta be honest I like this video. It's a nice and long has a lot of information and is coming to watch.

Interesting! I'll definitely look for that setting :) "The bigger the shield, the more HP" is certainly an interesting feature of the mod!
Josh, I remember your long videos and they were fun to watch. I'm fine with the short ones, but I also would prefer the longones.

for ship printing the nanobot build and repair mod makes it work very well for large ship printing

Haha why have I never thought of that in the nearly 1000 hours of play time... I'll have to try that out next time for sure!
Love your videos. Your mic level in the last couple has gotten kind of quite. Keep up the great work.

It's insane! I don't know why that video gets the most attention 😂 Easily the one I'm the least proud of but what can you do 🤷♂️
