If this movie doesn't leave you in tears, you weren't paying attention. I hold this movie as one of the most perfect movies ever made. Every scene, every character, every line of dialogue, it all comes together into a perfect work of cinematic art, full of humor and horror and love and hate and sorrow that creates an overwhelming emotional experience that definitely leaves its mark on everybody who watches it. The acting was amazing. Michael Clarke Duncan's performance as John Coffey is easily one of the best performances in movie history. Even Doug Hutchison who played Percy Wetmore gave such a great performance making us hate that character as much as I've ever hated a character in any movie ever. 11:48 - "I can't imagine what he's going through"..... be glad you can't, Dasha. I've been where he has. While it wasn't brain cancer, I lost my first wife to cancer back in 2006. I know what it's like to be told "There's no hope" for the one you love more than anything. Rose was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2003, and medical science gave us three more years together. But in the end, the cancer finally won. That was the event in my life that changed me more than anything else. Up until then, we had been inseparable. We had lived together, worked together, and basically did everything together. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone. Before she died, Rose had promised me that, when the time was right, she would send me someone so that I wouldn't be lonely for the rest of my life. She kept that promise. I now have a wonderful wife, who, like Rose, stuck with me through the bad times, as well as the good. Katina and I have recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. The impact that Rose had on my life, affects me even 15 years after her passing. She was a wonderful woman, and she cared very deeply about my happiness, as I did hers. I know that, somewhere, she is still smiling down on me to this very day. The Green Mile is one of those movies that, no matter how long it is, is well worth viewing. You don't even realize that you were watching a movie for that long, it's so good. We are fortunate to live in a time where classics such as this are available to us.
"Yeah, you try it -- go on. You'd be on the bread lines before the week is out." One of the reasons Percy has as much leverage as he does is that this is during the Great Depression, so jobs -- especially well-paying jobs -- are scarce. Odds are that, if one of the guards was to be fired, they'd be unemployed for a long time and would need handouts from the "bread lines" in order to survive and support their families.
Not to mention that prison guard is not exactly a high tier job with many prerequisites. Nowadays you need to be half of a social worker and have the education for that, but in the 30's and in the U.S. where there never was a widespread idea of re-integration? No.

Such a wonderful reaction dasha. You have such compassion and a good heart. The world needs more people like you. I cry every time I watch this movie. 😪
The brilliance of this movie and the actors in it, is that years after the fact, I'm sitting in front of my computer, watching a summary reaction on TH-cam, and I'm still tearing up, just remembering how I felt when I saw it at the theater. And Dasha's crying doesn't help, either! :-)
RIP Michael Clark Duncan. His portrayal of John Coffey is still to this day one of my favorite performances ever! The fact that he did not win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor is still one of the biggest Oscar snubs in the Academy's long history.
Another moving reaction from such a sweet girl. In spite of all the tears, I know you enjoyed it very much. Maybe treat yourself to a 'feelgood' next. Fyi, Mae West was a old time screen siren who specialised in risqué comedies. Rita Hayworth (the poster girl in 'Shawshank') was also an old time screen siren famous for her flamboyant dancing, although the one we see in the cell near the end Is 60s pinup Racquel Welch. And the old 'flicker' features tap-dancing legend Fred Astaire singing 'Cheek to Cheek'. I think the movie was 'Top Hat', from around the early 30s.
Oh dear Dasha! Such a kind and pure heart, I wish I could hug you and wipe your tears away! But if this movie doesn't make you cry, you have no soul. Your reactions are always so honest, and that's why we love you.
I only just discovered your existence, Dasha, a few weeks ago. It is always a hit or miss with TH-camr reactions. It has gotten to a point where I test them with the response to THIS particular movie. And it is official. I am grateful for your existence! You have a pure heart and soul! I love you, my friend! Nothing romantic. Just love. Like all of us, you are deserving of a company of friends and family who will simply accept you with nothing but love! 😇❤
"Why is he suddenly nice?" Oh, to create confusion, of course. The cactus and the rose both have thorns but the thorns on the rose are a lot more painful because they're _hidden._
I watch your reactions for basically two reasons. First of all you do very good reactions and secondly it is comforting to watch your gentle soul and believe that there still are kind people still left in this world that seems so harsh at times.
It is amazing how perfect each cast member in this movie is! Every single one! Tom Hanks delivers a great performance as always, but Michael Clarke Duncan was incredible, as were the other actors. I don't think I've ever seen a more universally hated character than Percy, played by Doug Hutchison. The same great casting could be said of The Shawshank Redemption. Both Stephen King stories written and directed by Frank Darabont.
@@BClarke Agreed. When Paul tells Melinda, "There was no tumor" and Hal bursts into tears. 27:35 Wow, what an emotional moment! It gets me every time! (Dasha was feeling it too!)
It's implied in the book that John Coffey had lived for hundreds of years. He didn't want to live anymore. While executing him was seen as a kindness, Paul ended up experiencing the same thing with his lengthened lifespan. Good reaction, Dasha.
I haven't started watching you video yet but I know you're going to be bawling your eyes out. I'm a 49-year-old man who has seen this about 10 times and I still cry.
Another great Stephen King movie, and what a roller coaster of emotions! and whatever actor played Percy Wetmore must be good because he sure had my blood boiling, I don't know how old Dasha is but it always amazes me how sharp she is! this is another excellent reaction.
OMG! Who told her to watch it! That Sweet & Sensitive Russian Lady will blow a waterfall of tear into this one! I kinda don't want her to watch it and want her to watch it at the same time but I know it's going to be rough one for her :D
The American prison system is not about reform, so execution is an accepted form of punishment. If they don't prepare prisoners to return to civilian life then what you get is a high percentage of repeat offenders. So if you have a mass murderer and there's no expectation that they won't kill again, what choices are you left with?
Great reaction to The Green Mile. It is such a powerful film, that strangely does not get the same kind of accolades that it's sister film The Shawshank Redemption does. Every part has character and dimension, and every actor nails it big time. Another great Tom Hanks film that often gets overlooked is his 2002 film Road To Perdition, with Sam Mendes. One of the few darker roles he has done, and with an A List cast. Another two classic Oscar winning drama's that might be worth a look too are: Rocky (1976) Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire Good Will Hunting (1997) Matt Damon, Robinm Williams, Ben Affleck
It's is amazing and a testament to Steven King and the actors / producers of this movie that I have seen dozens of reactions to this movie, and as a grown man, it still brings the waterworks .
I really love your reactions. And as much as The Green Mile breaks my heart, it's even harder watching you cry. But, I appreciate that you're reactions are so genuine. It helps remind me that there are still good people in the world. Thank you for that.
The black/white movie clip both at the beginning and later in the film is of Fed Astaire and Ginger Rogers singing and dancing to the song “Cheek To Cheek”. The film is ‘TOP HAT’ (1935). Excellent film… worth reacting to.
The thing I recall hearing about Mae West is that during World War 2 allied Sailors nicknamed their life jackets a Mae West. One of her memorable catchphrases is 'Come up and see me sometime'.
Aw sweet dasha when u cry it makes me cry 😭 please dont change! I love ur reactions! They are the most authentic ive seen thus far! Liked and subscribed!
Dasha, you enjoy Tom Hanks films so much, I would like to recommend "A League of Their Own". It is much more light-hearted than the other Hanks films you have seen, but still heart-warming.
It's touchingly amusing how everyone seems embarrassed to cry for such a movie. I am a jaded, cynical 62-year old who has seen this beautiful film a dozen times and I bawl through it every time.
I always took percey suggesting the cigar box as him being happy bc someone was afraid of him. Dale says "please don't hurt him", then Percy shows some humanity. Its short lived of course, but how I always interpreted it. Goes with the power trip personality

You are a beautiful person. You are also a beautiful young woman. Seeing your reactions to this wonderful movie brought me to tears when you cried and made me so happy when you smiled or giggled - Thank you so much for this reaction. Edit: at 29:04 you said that you didn't understand because you saw tears. It has always been my opinion that when John transferred the sickness into Percy, he showed him what Bill had done and even Percy as evil as he is couldn't take the images of the girls and what Wild Bill had done to them and so he cried even as he killed Bill for murdering the girls. I know that is probably not what happened but I would like to believe that even Percy had some humanity in him and no one that is not an absolute monster could see that and not be moved to tears.
This is such a beautiful movie, but also very hard to get through. It is still one of my favorite movies ever. You were very brave to get through it and I'm happy that you watched it. I cry every time, so much meaning in the story. Thank you for reacting 🥰
Love your reactions and comments about the films you watch, Dasha. Gary Sinise and Hanks made three films together, Gump, Green Mile, and the one I don't think you reacted to yet, Apollo 13. That is also a great watch.
When she reacted to Saving Private Ryan, I made a comment suggesting she should also watch Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, and Apollo 13. Now that she has since (by chance, I presume) reacted to two of those, I most certainly stand in favor of her seeing the third.
The saying It will make your blood Curdle it just means. It will make you not believe what you are hearing because it is so scary. So it basically means it will make you freak out and get scared. Also May West was a Actress from the 1930's and very beautiful I have Heard. I never have seen any of her movies i just know about her as an actress.
If you noticed, when Percy was given the flies vs spitting out the flies, so much more went into him and less came out. It was almost an equilibrium moment, he took the evil out of Percy and made him just a living being.
You're so adorable when you laugh, it's a nice change with all the crying too, I feel like you've had your share of crying in all the reactions you've done! Definitely one of my favorite movies even if I always cry at the end. I guess when you watch Tom Hanks movies one after the other it's hard to not think of the other characters, was so cool of you to think of Lieutenant Dan, and the two have done other movies together too. Even that other guy with a family, he was the sniper in Saving Private Ryan. Thanks for reacting to this :)
Fortunately I read the book long before this movie came out and I knew exactly what was going on. I watch this hoping you catch on immediatly. If you do that's a sign of a well made movie ,especially considering how large the book was.
Dasha, two suggestions for you to review; "The Sting" an epic film from the 1970s, set around 1930, and "Castaway", another classic Tom Hanks film that isn't as sad as this one.

"Why is he suddenly nice?"
Oh, to create confusion, of course. The cactus and the rose both have thorns but the thorns on the rose are a lot more painful because they're _hidden._
Oh my gosh, everytime Dasha cries I just want to hug her! So adorable! Keep smiling 🤘 🙂
I know right? She's a sweet little thing.
I always want to hug Dasha. Say no more.
I bet men all over the world watching your adorable reactions are falling in love with you!!
I don't hardly ever comment but Dasha is so adorable!
I watch your reactions for basically two reasons. First of all you do very good reactions and secondly it is comforting to watch your gentle soul and believe that there still are kind people still left in this world that seems so harsh at times.
Girl, you are the sweetest person I've ever "met". I hope my daughter is half as sweet as you when she grows up.
Does my heart good to see a person who can tell a good person when they see them from a bad person, I love your reactions
Agreed on all counts. I think James Cromwell deserves some recognition for his wonderful performance too.
@@BClarke Agreed. When Paul tells Melinda, "There was no tumor" and Hal bursts into tears. 27:35 Wow, what an emotional moment! It gets me every time! (Dasha was feeling it too!)
Doug Hutchison and Sam Rockwell were sensational playing the protagonists. Many actors don't envy that role.
I can't watch a movie without you. My friend.
Tom Hanks has literally never been in a bad movie. EVER
Joe versus the volcano was pretty bad. That's the exception that proves the rule.
The Ladykillers is great. The Circle is terrible, though.
Bachelor Party was pretty bad, but The Ladykillers is very underappreciated.
The burbs is very underrated. Some people don't like it but I do.
@@jay0571 I blame the brain cloud... But really, I liked the movie.
Thank you Dasha for an amazing reaction. This was a hell of an emotional ride.
The American prison system is not about reform, so execution is an accepted form of punishment. If they don't prepare prisoners to return to civilian life then what you get is a high percentage of repeat offenders. So if you have a mass murderer and there's no expectation that they won't kill again, what choices are you left with?
Thanks for your reaction, Dasha, it's one of the most touching I've seen. Your beautiful sensitivity showed and shone, truly beautiful.
You are such a gentle soul. I love your videos.
Dasha of Russia Reacts I'm glad I found your channel, you are such a beautiful and sweet soul.
this movie is a emotional roller coaster. one of my all time favs.
Another two classic Oscar winning drama's that might be worth a look too are:
Rocky (1976) Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire
Good Will Hunting (1997) Matt Damon, Robinm Williams, Ben Affleck
This is such a great movie. I already know you're gonna cry :)
Dasha .. wonderful!!
(My Momma had a brain tumor 15 years ago ..operation was sucessful..she die 5 years ago)
One of the greatest reactions to Mr Jingles demise. Thank u Dasha
i knew why i dont watch this in 8 days. but i love Dashas reactions. happy, funny, sad .. its always credible.
Whew! Two tear jerker movies in one week. Good reaction videos. Thank you.
The black/white movie clip both at the beginning and later in the film is of Fed Astaire and Ginger Rogers singing and dancing to the song “Cheek To Cheek”. The film is ‘TOP HAT’ (1935). Excellent film… worth reacting to.
Why are accents so pleasing to the ear? Doesnt hurt to be coming from a beautiful lady.
The thing I recall hearing about Mae West is that during World War 2 allied Sailors nicknamed their life jackets a Mae West. One of her memorable catchphrases is 'Come up and see me sometime'.
love your reactions. so empathetic. you feel the same as I did when saw the movie and read the books. thanks
I just love the way you say "Adorable"
This movie is quite an experience... First time I saw it, I cried too. We all cried!
I always took percey suggesting the cigar box as him being happy bc someone was afraid of him. Dale says "please don't hurt him", then Percy shows some humanity. Its short lived of course, but how I always interpreted it. Goes with the power trip personality
Percy wanted him in a box so he could capture him
@@Sentinel3D then why didn't he? He didn't stomp the mouse until after Dale laughed at him for pissing on himself
I never thought about that before.
@@lelandc9763 Probably never had the opportunity. He wouldn't go in that cell by himself. He was a coward, and probably couldn't go in a cell without another guard present. He would have waited until Del was dead.
@@Sentinel3D its possible, but feel like that would be a scene they'd include (percent trying to steal the cigar box). The whole movie is a lesson on mental health, so I just look st it from that perspective
Thank you for this. This movie always breaks my heart. This is like watching it with my favorite niece. Thanks.
Thank you for reacting 🥰
same, one of the best movies but i watch it very rarely for good reason
Love your reactions and comments about the films you watch, Dasha. Gary Sinise and Hanks made three films together, Gump, Green Mile, and the one I don't think you reacted to yet, Apollo 13. That is also a great watch.
Seconding Apollo 13. Both a triumph of NASA IRL, and a triumph of filmmaking.
When she reacted to Saving Private Ryan, I made a comment suggesting she should also watch Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, and Apollo 13. Now that she has since (by chance, I presume) reacted to two of those, I most certainly stand in favor of her seeing the third.
One of the guards was the sharp shooter in Saving Private Ryan as well.
Such a lovely, emotional reaction Dasha!!🤩💖🤩💖🤩💖🤩💖 "Big" is a great lighthearted movie with Tom Hanks that I think that you would enjoy!!!
You have a very pure heart. It was hard to watch you cry so much :( Bless your soul. ♥️
You are so pure of heart and your reaction warms this old guys soul . Thank you and keep up the great job little one .
John Coffey was played by the actor Michael Clarke Duncan, he passed away and Tom Hanks gave a great speech in his funeral
Oh Dasha, you are such a lovely young lady. Keep blessing us with your reactions! Much love from New Zealand!
If you noticed, when Percy was given the flies vs spitting out the flies, so much more went into him and less came out. It was almost an equilibrium moment, he took the evil out of Percy and made him just a living being.
He poured that Tumar from the dying wife into Percy, Percy shot and killed Wild Bill, that actually killed the 2 little girls!
“Flicker show” was slang for a motion picture. It’s because the old projectors made a flickering light effect when they were running
Mae West was an actress at the time. A sex symbol. Her career spanned 7 decades. She was also known for her screenwriting and singing.
Great Reaction Video ‼️
Michael Duncan was so happy to be in a movie with Tom Hanks ❤️.
I love watching a pure soul react to this film. I’m a fan. Thank you
@ 20:37 Dasha says "Mr. Jingles, your alive.... alive and well. That's freakin unbearably cute!!!
Amazing movie. Amazing reaction. Grew up binge watching this and forrest gump lol
Dasha, two suggestions for you to review; "The Sting" an epic film from the 1970s, set around 1930, and "Castaway", another classic Tom Hanks film that isn't as sad as this one.
I cried along with you Dasha and I've seen this movie many times. Magnificent review. I new how my sweet Dasha would react.
Seeing a beautiful young woman get emotional over this incredible movie is setting me off again crying
