DUDE!!… THANK YOU so much. I’m 1 month post surgery & am experiencing most of the frustrations you shared. You somehow made me feel like , “I will get through this” “ this too shall pass”. So glad you’re getting better & NOW I know I WILL TOO. Thank you! God bless.😊
I'm here 1 month past surgery, both wrist, 1 compound. 3 plates prolly 15 screws. Wish me luck boys, cause she's wearing on me mentally. Just got the casts off, also couldn't move my elbow, in the braces, they told me to work on mobility, I can't bend my wrist backwards yet and I'm freaking. It's all panic inducing.
@@jordongee2347it’s gets better man just hang in there, I broke my left distal radius in a skateboarding accident. It was displaced, intrarticular and I broke it in two places. I also chipped the tip of my ulna. That was about 3 months ago and I’m already back to playing guitar and drums. granted it still hurts a little. The important part is just doing the PT and following the doctors orders. I totally get what you mean about panicking, I was freaking out when I couldn’t move my fingers after surgery, I also had little to no movement in my wrist for 5 weeks after the surgery. Now at 11 weeks out I almost have full range of motion back. It just takes time and patience, do your PT religiously. I hope your recovery is going well, hang in there brother
me 2 . one month post surgery , left hand now I begin with therapy 😌 very painful. I just find this video and your comments guys , make me cry 😢 never being through something like this 😢 thank you so much Appreciate . give me hope 🙏 😌
@@DaisyCruz-yr3bu hang in there it gets better, I’m a little over three months out and I’m back to playing guitar and working out. Not lifting as heavy as I used to and easing my way back into but it’s getting better and stronger every day. The physical therapy is the most important part. Just do all the exercises and stay on top of it. It gets better
I broke my wrist in September 2013 at work. I have plates & screws in. I worked in homecare. It was a distal radius fracture. I had a cast on for only 2 weeks. Straight away after my cast was off & the butterfly stitches taken off, I started physio . My wrist was very very painful & very very stiff & swollen for a long time. At the time I wondered if I would ever be able to move my wrist & fingers properly agin. And if I'd get back to work. I also had a frozen shoulder within 2 weeks of my accident, which made it worse. I was referred to the pain clinic . I had 10 months off work. Now just over 10 years after the accident. I still have some stiffness & weakness in my wrist & arm. But I'm doing OK. The exercises that I was told to do helped alot, but it was a slow process. Take care everyone....ll
I continue to watch your video to give myself encouragement that I could do this and know that my wrist will heal at some point. I try to stay positive but every morning I wake up with pain in my wrist and my hand and fingers are stiff stiff. It takes my exercises to get my hand going. They tell me it’s gonna take six months to a year to get full function back. I go to OT twice a week and do my home program several times a day. They say that I’m progressing, but it’s very slow. I am now nine weeks out from my fracture. I know I’m still in the early stages of healing.
Broken scaphoid, ulnar, and distal radius. I'm doing pt on my own. Appreciate this video. I use my daughter's playdough 😂 it's been 5 weeks since break. I'm 48 yrs old. Didn't opt for surgery. My 1 month xray showed great healing. I'm using red light therapy 3x a day. Rubbing comfrey salve and talking homeopathic cell salts-... Pherum phos, calc fluor, calc phos, silicea. Also upped my protein way up including liver. Soaking in Epsom salt too. Had removable cast entire time. No numbness or tingling just super stiff and working through it! Wishing everyone a speedy recovery
After much searching I have finally found a video of an actual person who is experiencing the same type of injury as i am. 09/20/21 was my accident and I have another week to go until the cast is removed. I too have a plate and screws and most likely will need to wear a splint after the cast, and physio...a long recovery! Thank you for the very informative and helpful video.
Glad you found this helpful. It takes time for healing so don't push yourself too hard. Stay active to get your blood flowing and move your fingers throughout the day.
@@akilislam0 All good. I'm back to my normal routine. Strength and mobility has returned. I'm grateful to be feeling good. I'm still doing stretches and exercises every day to keep active.
SO thankful found you. Yesterday and today lowest period. Three days cast off, removed wires... SUPER painful, thought NEVER would recover, given me hope 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Btw, smothering your arm and fingers in Vicks Vapour Rub so helpful in pain relief and increasing flexibility.
It’s reassuring to hear your progress. I broke my wrist 3.5 months ago and still working on getting it back to preinjury. You’re right. Small steps but celebrate the progress. Keep us in the loop on your continued recovery.
Good to know there’s light at the end of the tunnel with this surgery. Hope that by now you’re 100%. I’m a month out and still struggling with the pain and my frozen thumb.
Thanks for the series of videos! I'm currently 2 weeks post radius surgery (5 weeks post fracture) and have my ulna broken too. To say it's been challenging would be an understatement. Hope your injury is now just a distant memory. Wishing everyone timely and full healing!
I had an accident on 19th December 2021, I broke the radius bone and had ulc thumb injury. Both got operated on 22nd December. It was shitty in the beginning. It got better and today I am able to type with my both hands, lift small objects and chop vegetables. I’m very thankful that you made this video. It made the whole journey a lot easier for me. I’m very confident about my recovery. It just takes a lot of time. One must stay patient and go to therapy.
Thank you for sharing Mike. My cast came off last Monday after similar surgery as yours for a smashed distal radius in my left wrist. The pain and lack of movement in my wrist and fingers had left me despondent thinking I would never be able to play guitar again. Your video has lifted my spirits and made me realise there is hope! Keep on fighting! Thank you.
Absolutely. My fingers weren't working properly in the beginning, and I couldn't even grip a tennis ball. It took time to get my mobility and strength back. I think playing guitar could be a great mobility exercise for your fingers, even if you can only move one or two fingers right now. Keep focusing on the small wins because it's easy to be discouraged when you're not seeing quick progress. It takes time. I tried lots of different activities to strengthen my fingers. I squished sand, play-doh, clay, and then tried to play my Nintendo switch. It hurt to move buttons and the controller, but I eventually got stronger. BTW, my PT always wrapped my wrist in a heating pad before starting exercises, and that helped a lot. You may want to try that.
Hi Sarah! I work with a certified hand therapist and a distal radius fracture is the most common fracture we see! I want to assure you distal radius fracture patients do very well. After 2 weeks you should expect to get the stitches out and begin motion. Generally after 6 weeks you’ll be able to lose the splint and begin strengthening. You’ll be shocked how fast your motion and strength make progress. Most patients I see with this injury make full recoveries! Good luck!
It does me so much good to see these videos! Thank you! Broke my radius 18 days ago, had surgery 8 days ago for plate and screws. I have been kind of not using my arm, but just letting it help with like balancing a jar when I was trying to open it and things like that and today it is pretty painful. I was very despondent, and in tears this morning. After seeing these videos, I am encouraged knowing that what I am feeling and what I am going through is normal. I have been a server all of my life carrying very heavy trays.I just feel all out of sorts. I go in 4 days. Hopefully, to get the stitches out and the soft cast off and get a brace. Cant wait! Stitches are really itching and burning!
Understand each other, we are here in the same boat ! Appreciated all of yours and this video! 😢 thank God I find support here 🙏 Dr . and nobody talk like Michael Delgado 🙄 I need to hear that ❤
Thank you for this video! You give me hope because i was beginning to doubt i was going to get better. I fell also and broke my wrist. Your exercises will help some were viven to me but somes of themaerent. Your exercises i feel will help me. Again thank you. If youre 57 years old... Dont break your wrist..
Thank you so much! Your testimony brings me tons of relief!!! Many of your concerns back then are actually the same I have now. Happy to know you are well now.
Hi, thank you for posting this... It's been a year and 3 weeks since my surgery. I am still unable to make a fist... But I took a break from PT as it was too painful. Your post is encouraging me to go back and be patient and consistent. Thank you and I will follow you for more....
It took probably 3 years for my wrist to get as good as it will ever be.I didn't have surgery despite it being a very bad distal radius fracture. How is your wrist now?
@tedlivermore6955 I have come to realize my wrist will never be able to handle the pressure from lifting and exercising as I use to as it is weak. I still feel alot of tingling and occasionally sharp pain from the area of the injury sometimes all the way up to my shoulder. I drop things alot so I try to use my left hand more.
Your videos of your injuries and healing are so encouraging. I broke my wrist in 3 places 6 weeks ago. I have a permanent metal plate in my wrist to stabilize it. I never had a cast-only a splint. My surgeon doesn’t do casts bk of risk of infection. I’m finally through the worst of the pain, but I still can’t make a fist or bend my wrist backwards, but am making progress. I still have a lot of swelling, so that is one thing holding me back. My Surgeon and Workmans Comp Rep are saying I need to be making a fist by now, but I can’t force my hand to do that no matter how hard I try. My Occupational Therapist is working with me 2 days a week and then I work on my hand every day. They are saying if I don’t make a fist soon the scar tissue is going to make my hand be like it is and never get full mobility. I am a 71 yr old woman so my age probably factors in. I play the piano and drive a transportation van to take clients, including wheelchair clients, wherever they need to go so I really need full use of my hands. I’m pushing as hard as I can. I keep it moving and massage it at various times of the day.
Hope you are doing much better. I had my first surgery on July 2023 and and a 2nd on October 23 in which all hardware were removed. I am scheduled for therapy next Wedn., but until then I watch videos like this one n do them on my own. I also go on Virtual Hand Care in TH-cam. She has a lot of great videos. Hope you recover soon.
I’m somewhat encouraged thank you I’m 3 weeks post left broken elbow and wrist surgery both ends of radius … one week post stitches out no cast but i was 3 weeks in a splint and sling before surgery my fingers barely are able to move … so swollen and stiff still but i do what i can … thank you for your encouragement… yes hopeless feeling and I’m a guitar player !!!!! He said it would be more like 9 months before i start to feel normal … trying to be patient
God bless you and from one Michael to another you have been a tremendous inspiration to me, I broke my distal radius in my left wrist and REALLY needed your words of wisdom Michael, thank you so much
me too . the same situation like you ! thank God I find this video today 🙏 this is a hard time for me , only 4 weeks post surgery ! he is very inspiring and positive pleasant person ! Thank so much for you wisdom and kindness 🙏 ❤️
Thanks so much for sharing your story. I too have a compound distal radius fracture I got from rollerskating on 11/26. Had to get an external fixator and a carpal tunnel release and then on 12/5 got an internal fixator. Don’t have as many screws as you, but it’s very comforting to hear many of the same struggles that I have expressed and that it will get better.
Thank you so much for this. I broke my wrist and have been out of a cast for a week and have been struggling. It's so reassuring to see that I'm not alone and you have made me feel so much better. I'm going to keep going with the exercises and record my small wins. Touched my thumb to my index finger today😊
Nice to see a video of someone who actually had this surgery. My accident was December 9th, broke right wrist and left clavicle...was in a cast for a week then had surgery on December 17th. Got plates on wrist and clavicle...cast was removed from wrist 2 weeks later and now wear a brace. Started therapy 2 weeks ago ....fingers are stiff can not bend them very much can't do a hook fist yet. I know it takes time and I feel defeated some days....can't wait to be able to bend my fingers fully. Thanks for the video and encouragment to us that are going through this.
The back spasms are real. I just had surgery a few days ago and have pulled every muscle associated with compensating the injury. It indeed does feel like I will never be pain free or functioning normally.
Yes, it is. I was feeling down 😔 lonely in my recovery. Pain , no good night asleep , crying 😢 now I know what happen to me is normal ! Thank you all of yours ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I just fell last Friday and broke my wrist. I have no idea what to expect. It's the distal part of my radius. I'm still waiting to hear back from the Orthopedic surgeon as a follow up since I was first seen in the ER. Just trying to educate myself on what could potentially occur.i can't just sit around and do nothing. Thank you again! Seeing that you made it and how dedicated you were to your treatment plan had inspired me that I will get through this too.
Very helpful video regarding the PT. I’ve had a scaphoid excision four corner fusion about 7.5 weeks ago and I am in the middle of getting my hand strength back. Your PT exercise with holding your arm makes so much more sense than what I am doing and I am also using the putty stuff. Thank you for making this video and helping out. I also found it important that you said that the pain is a phase of it all and it will go away. I can only agree to that. Really appreciate it! All the best and continued successful progress.
Thank YOU so much !! For your encouraging words. I had surgery 3 months ago. I too have plate and pins. WOW 80% that's is so amazing. I was a little down and out because I'm stuck flexing my wrist upwards on 50% and flexing downwards I went from 15% to 18%. Celebrate the small !! Thank YOU needed to hear to that ! God bless my friend. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for this amazing share. I had my closed distal radius fracture and got the surgery done on 23.09.2021. I'm experiencing the same pain or maybe slightly lesser than yours but I'm so grateful to come across your video. Thank you so so much.
@@khalidkadi2325 its getting better with physio. My fingers and wrist need more. Still can't carry heavy stuff yet. Almost 3 months post opt. So I guess as time goes, it may get better. Thank you forn your message Mr Khalid. Take care
This is very motivating for me, thanks so much for sharing. I had a fall where I crushed my shoulder and the brachial complex of nerves which control everything in my arm. The nerve damage pain was horrendous for the first 6 weeks, and still painful but less so now after 14 weeks. I like your phrase, "celebrate the small victories, and keep 'em coming".
Fractured distal and ulna from walking my dog. Leash wrapped around my ankles, then she took off. Anyway, I had plate and 10 screws put in 1 month ago. Surprisingly no pain at all, just stiffness! Just went from hard cast to soft removable brace a week ago. Some nerve pain if fingers flex too much. So happy to stumble on your video! (Thank you, thank you, thank you!) Happy to know my recovery time is normal and I will regain use of my hand/fingers/wrist. I'm workin' it!
I also broke mine while skating back in September. No insurance meant that I can't afford PT so my only option has been to see if anyone else with the same injury was willing to share what they did for it. Thank you so much.
Tips on No insurance by former Medicare Specialist Joyce of KS. When I had cancer in 09 I had Blue Cross Blue S hield. I thought I knew a lot about health insurance because I had been a Dir of HR in hotels. So I had gap coverage and I thought, "well this would definitely cover me if I had the biggy diseases. Wrong. This goes for young people too have been laid off. Joyce, Top City in KS Good luck and hop to you. The wrist with cast or synthetic brace can feel it is 700 degrees at night. I you have given birth you may know this kind of pain, too. jj
I shattered the distal end of my radius and had surgery three weeks ago. You are so right about the pain. My surgical repair looks quite similar to yours. I get my cast off and begin PT in a week. I have been dreading it as I assume it will be quite painful. Your video is very reassuring. It gives me comfort, seeing how well you have progressed. Thank you for sharing the details of your recovery.
So happy to hear that you'll be meeting with a PT soon. I had a great PT who really helped my arm feel better during the healing process. She helped me wrist get stronger. Best wishes to you during this recovery period. Take care.
I was in terrible pain during the first few months after surgery. It's difficult to sleep and my arm felt like it was on fire. My fingers were very swollen and it was very difficult to move them. I'm grateful to have a P.T. to help me with recovery and to guide me with the types of wrist and finger movements to help me recover faster. The key is to stay positive and celebrate the small wins along the way. I made it a goal to exercise every day during this recovery period. I've been going on long walks and/or riding a stationary bike. That's helped me feel better. Let me know what's helped you.
I had pain in the cast it was to tide, and had cramps, but not after it was off only bad swelling and blue and us I’ll exercise I was also very scared no one told me anything, only the Therapist helps some, watching so many Vids what to do!The knee they don’t help at all I fall 2) times on the same knee.I’m learning JON SCHIN JYUTSU Auto Help with that and my Shoulder I fall on!
Thanks Mike. When I first broke it I had to wait about a week before surgery, and then right after surgery… I was on lots of Oxsee. I was drugged up but I would watch your TH-cam videos on the TV over and over.
And yes i also had that same type of "Fire" in both my arm and my leg so far I can move my fingers, my wrist slightly back and forth side to side. I can lift heavy objects but nothing over 30 pounds, I don't have as much arthritic pain as i do in my leg. Learning how to play a guitar for finger dexterity.
Thank you for sharing Mike ! It has been hard for me also ! I fractured my radius 🦴 bone March 27 2022 I had my surgery and I have a plate with 11 screws , I had cried so much I didn’t think I was going to make it , I am feeling better and pretty soon I will start therapy. I know I will cry again. Thanks 🙏 for sharing and give us strength with your testimony ❤️
WOW! I'm feeling quite blessed after watching about your experience. I broke the distal radius ( apparently the same injury you experienced ) 5 weeks ago with surgery 3 days later. I took nothing for pain until after surgery ( with hardware ) and I've been back to gym classes for the last two weeks. I found your video while I was searching for the exercises I may be doing - hopefully next week 🤞🏻. Good luck with the rest of your recovery.
Thank you for sharing this video. Very encouraging. I recently had surgery on my wrist after I went dormant on my motorcycle. A few days out of surgery I can move all over my fingers but everything is still swollen. I hope I can get full motion and get back on my bike after 3-6 months
Thanks for sharing experience. Means a lot. Happy for your recovery. It's just been 10 days after surgery just like you and I am asked to start excercise. Swelling and pain and stiffness there a lot.
Thank you for your sharing. I had a total broken ulna and distal radius in my right arm for 6 weeks after surgery done next day. I am in pain and recovering through exercises and massage from these similar communities that I am learning.
I fractured my wrist mild it’s healing slowly no surgery yet it’s been sense may 3,2023 when I fell i to had claw hand from my sling brace and struggled to move my hand and now going into two months almost my swelling gone down I can move my fingers I to been doing same exercises so glad that you’re okay
Hi, Mike. I hope you have got better now. Thanks for your updates, they are extremely useful and hopeful. I have also broken my radius and ulna when I was playing football. I have not had a surgery. The cast was there for exact 6 weeks, but now after two weeks that the cast is removed, my wrist movement is still very restricted. I would say it is less than 30 percent back now. Fortunately, the fingers are fully back and I only need to strengthen the muscles. Looking forward to having your next update and I wish all the best for you.
Yeah, I had similar range of motion issues in the beginning. It hurts to bend our wrist when the case first comes off. I was probably at 30% mobility a few weeks after surgery, too. I kept doing my exercises as much as possible. My PT would wrap my arm in a heating pad before the exercises, which reduced my pain. It gets better in time. I'm now back to full mobility after 6 months, but I still have some discomfort and slight pain when doing pushups. It just takes time. Keep up your exercises and celebrate the small wins along the way. :)
It is heartening to see that full or near full recovery is possible. Thank you for the tip on using the sock to protect the scar, that has been most useful.
Absolutely. It's been about six months and I have full mobility and strength back. I'm also back to mountain biking and roller blading. I still have some slight pain when doing pushups or lifting weights, but I know that will pass. My doctor told me to keep massaging the scar area to reduce scar tissue, so I'm trying to do that daily (even though my scar is still tender).
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m now 12 weeks out from the distal radius fracture and ten weeks since surgery. Today is the first day that my pain is bearable. I can relate to everything you have said. I wear the scar patch to soften the scar tissue. I have that compression sleeve which is like my security blanket for my wrist. Today I’m finally able to make a fist without the other hand to assist. I still lack backward wrist movement which frustrates me to no end. I broke it playing pickleball. I have osteoporosis and my surgeon said it’s pretty bad in my wrist. Therefore I can’t play anymore which is a bummer. Breaking a hip would be even worse says the surgeon. I turned 70 a week after breaking it. Not a fun way to celebrate seven decades. What a nightmare this has been.
I am so lucky that I found your videos, I’m waiting for surgery date, I have so many questions unanswered because I have to pull the information out of the surgeon who did not explain anything I mean nothing at all, not my options, not what is going to happen. He has not returned my calls so I’m really scared
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm 5 days out of my cast from a distal radius fracture (no surgery). I can relate to the vulnerability and know that it is possible to heal completely,
Amazing. Hearing you went bike riding got me excited. I can't wait to get back to bike riding again. My grip is good enough to grab a handle but not enough to hold a pencil. Also I can't rotate my palm down flat yet. I hope you continue to share your experience.
They took back slab of after I had plate screws and I got worse where I didn't feel well and the burning pain , I was day 7 and a week after I had to ice daily for pain swelling with moving my fingers. To sleep everything hurt , made a splint ruler and bandage to protect it. I am under 4 weeks from car accident with hip rib fractures so sleep everything hurts up most nights . I pray for you to recover well and I am encouraged to exercise more but want to wait till 6 weeks. I Massage fingers stiff swollen and to move them more. I feel forcing is not good when it hurts. Thank you for sharing . ICE is so good and has helped me with pain swelling. I pray for all of on line injured to be heeled in Gods speed with full recovery in the Name of Jesus .
Boy I really enjoyed watching your videos. Very similar for me. Although I fell on Christmas morning 2021. Had the compound wound repaired that day as well as them re-setting the dislocation. Surgery 3 days later with internal plates and screws as well as and external device (metal bar) that was screwed into my hand an wrist. It was an insane time. Hard to sleep. Felt like I always had my arm resting on a metal picket fence. Another surgery to remove the external device 6 weeks later. Then ended up also needing another surgery 8 months later to remove the Ulnar Styloid that was giving me problems. While they were in there they removed the plates and screws because the screws were irritating a tendon. Not post op from that 2 months, I’m still working hard to get things moving. So comforting to hear many of the same experiences that you had. Scar sensitivity when touched, pain when getting out of a chair. Etc. Appreciate hearing I’m not alone. Hoping I can get full mobility back one day.
Thk you Thk you. Found you by accident. Brk my R wrist may. Operation with a long plate mid June. Not a compound but brk 4 bones long ways. I still cannot make a fist but I am making progress. Messed my shoulder up. Going to PT for both. I fell from horse 8 yrs ago. Sci but I walk. But having my cast on I was afraid to walk so my legs and feet I’m trying to get stronger now also. The wrist was so painful but no pain now except sometimes. Yr video was so encouraging. I broke down a couple times. Because I never got full recovery with my legs. I thought it was déjà vu again. But I work my hand thru out the day. I now feel I’ll get my hand back. Thk you for yr post. Susie
I can concur with you. I had a complex distal radius fracture in January 2024. It's now June 2024. Due to communication problems I was kept in a cast for 9 weeks. As you can imagine my hand was almost paralysed. Interesting that the exercises you were given are very similar to the ones that my physiotherapist gave me in Great Britain. Nearly 6 months later, I'm still working on physiotherapy and expect to continue for some months to come. I feel your pain!
im going through post-op recovery , i also broke my wrist. had to get!! 9 screws, and a plate. i had a motorcycle accident that caused me to break my wrist. i also had broken my ulna. my distal radius was displaced as well
Your video is the best one I have seen on YT...have all the same problems with my right wrist I broke with surgery 3 weeks ago..this video will help me a lot!!! Thank you!!
Thank you for your testimony, I had my forearm radial distal fracture, It's kind of feeling devastated before and after my surgery, thinking that it won't get me back to normal. Am grateful for sharing that there is hope on this stiffness. I'm on schedule for therapy session next week, while waiting for my appointment, I'll follow and start the program flexing my wrist and fingers as you shared. Stay safe 🙏 God Bless us all!
Hello, I'm from Denmark. Thank you very much for your helpful video, which I learned a lot from. I broke my Radius bone on left hand, on 1.1.2022. It grew back together incorrectly when the fracture had slipped. I went to an orthopedic specialist in this area who operated on my hand 15.11.2022, and put on an Acu-Loc 2 wrist plate on the bone. However, he first had to split the bone again, before the Acu-Loc 2 was put on. Today I am training to get my driving skills back. Good luck to you ;-)
I am so thankful for your video!!! I’m only 3 weeks out from surgery. I’m in pain and feeling frustrated and having a lot swelling. You actually really understand my situation. Thanks for posting the video!
Yes, a lot of pain in the beginning and very frustrating to do daily tasks. Be gracious with yourself and try to find ways to relax. I surrounded myself with pillows to keep my arm elevated in the beginning.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I fractured my wrist end November. I haven't got a cast now but its difficult to see how it'll get back to normal. You're video is reassuring.
Thank you so much for this video. It's very relatable; this whole video resonates with me. I'm two weeks post op and scheduled to begin therapy tomorrow. It's very discouraging discouraging to have no and/ or limited mobility in my fingers. This video gives me hope. I've began exercises at home to make therapy easier. P.S. I was unable to make my thumb and index finger touch. Now, I'm able to touch my index and middle finger without assistance. Small victories. Thank you again.
Hi, hope you are doing much better. What stage are you at now? Are you through all finger stiffness n can you make a first? I had 1st surgery for distal radius in July. In Oct 12 had 2nd surgery to remove plate n 9 screws. I'm dealing with difficulty making a fist n placing my hand flat on a surface. I can move my wrist forward a little, backwards if I move it with the other hand while in a prayer position. It's hard work.
Infinitas gracias por tu video. Me has ayudado demasiado.
You made me laugh so hard when you said "how am U ever going to get my fingers to touch". I feel the same way especially in the morning when my hand is more stiff. I really apechugar you taking your time to tell us about your experience. It certainly gives me high hopes.
hey man… Much respect for the thumb to pinky move, I have a great occupational therapist at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and she didn't tell me about this! I'm just starting to do it I realize it's *absolutely necessary*. i'm thrilled and grateful to have discovered something here that none of my research or either of my two therapists told me about 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👑
Really helpful video, thank you. I’m two weeks post op, no cast or anything now. Scar Healed well but still super sore and restricted movement in wrist. Doing all those exercises. Like you several breaks. Initial cast for 2 wks, then surgery as it was unstable. Wonderful to lose the cast, but it feels vulnerable. I’m reassured watching your story.
im so thankful of your video sir, im 3 weeks after my surgery and when i see your video we are both the same scar ,,its very frustrating ,i hope you do more video about the the therapy . 🙏
Thank you for posting your results of surgery and exercises I've started physical therapy I've been to 3 sessions for a broken wrist it's been ,no surgery, just starting my therapy thank you waiting on my putty. Thanks again mine was mountain biking
I am so excited to find this video. I have a distal radius fracture also when i fell on concrete and landed on my teeth. Every thing you say is 100% identical to my pain and inability to sleep, open a can, twist a pepper grinder, etc. I do not have as good a PT...my injury was 8/21/21. I have great difficulty with wall pushups, and every morning I wake up my fingers are swollen and barely bendable for hours and hours. I will watch this video and learn to do your exercises. How funny...I have a pair of fingerless winter gloves and it sure looks and fits snugger than your sock. I look forward to following your recovery. I feel "so much better" that you experienced the same excruciating pain as I have. I thought i was just being a baby. Be safe on your bike and skateboard! Maybe get more pads at least.. Thank you so very much for sharing.
I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. I can't even imagine all the pain you must be going through with your mouth and arm. Dang! I hear you about not being able to sleep much. I had rough nights for the first month or so. The pain is excruciating for sure. You'll be on the mend soon, and sleep will help a lot with your recovery. I bought some melatonin gummies to help me sleep a bit during that period. Those gloves sound perfect. My scar is still tender 6-months later. I should have been massaging that area more to reduce the scar tissue. I'm back on my bike and rollerblading again and being extra careful. No more halfpipes for me. I'm staying on the ground. Keep working on those wall pushups if your doctor gives you approval. It takes time. Just don't push yourself too much. You need your body to heal. Keep me updated. :)
Thanks for your video Mike, 2 days after you uploaded this I went flying over the handlebars of my bike into a tree and wrist fractured, didn't go to the hospital so just getting there with strength and movement now, thank you for sharing what your PT guided you to do, very helpful indeed good sir
I just had surgery a week ago. Did you have surgery? How are you now? I have pins and needles at the tips of my fingers; especially my index finger. It is bothersome.
Hey thanks for this video. Im 27 and just got surgery a week ago from breaking the radius and ulna while ramp quad skating. I’ve already started physio the day after surgery and so I’m already a bit fatter down the line in recovery but it’s so helpful to hear that you are bac on your bike as skates. I had my arm in a cast for 2 weeks before being able to get surgery so been about almost a month now since y break and it’s been really tough mentally. Not a lot of videos on peoples experience with this break and surgery.
Broke mine in a game of cricket. The wrist has multiple fractures, I'm 1 week post the surgery. Thanks for the video, it prepares me for the journey ahead. 1 less thing to worry.
Hi Mike i also had an operation two months ago and just opened my cast and my fingers and my wrist looks horrible kind of crooked and cant really move my thumb, listening to you made me hopeful, I started my PT yesterday, hope all is better with you now
Totally! My arm felt very weak when the cast was removed and I wasn't able to move my wrist much. It takes time. My PT helped me a lot with different types of exercises. I also like that she wrapped my arm in a heating pad for 15 minutes before working on my arm so that there was less pain. Be hopeful and listen to your PT. You'll get through this. It's just rough in the beginning. I wish you all the best in your recovery -- and make sure to celebrate all the small wins along the way. I remember the first time I could brush my teeth with my right hand after the cast was removed. It hurt a lot, but I was happy to get that movement back. :)
I also broke my wrist, my fingers are like claw and I can't get them to straight, specially my pinky. I can't rotate my wrist too. Don't know what to do, but thanks to your video, I got an idea on what to do. I hope these works for me too
Thank you for sharing your experience! I am 4 weeks post surgery, after having a distal radius fracture. I could very much relate to your "arm being on fire" sensation a few hours after the surgery, the same for me 😄I just hope I can get rid of my arm cast tomorrow and back to work soon! Supposedly one of the advantages of surgery is, that you only have to wear a cast for two weeks.
I really appreciate you posting this. I’m paying for my injury/surgery out of pocket as I’m currently in between jobs without insurance and trying to avoid a lot of PT! This is so helpful.
Appreciate this video especially about the pain and lack of sleep. Thought I was going crazy. I’m 6 weeks post surgery #2 and finally the pain has lessened and I can sleep a bit.
Thank you so much for this video . Love the “celebrate the small wins” . Got my surgery done 4 weeks ago and started PT yesterday. I Yes it’s a long way but I’m gonna keep celebrating the small wins along the way. Thank you so much
My surgery was done 3 weeks ago and today I started PT, I’m so ready to go back to work but surgeon said to wait three more weeks and to not skip PT😅. I wish you get better and regain your strength and full mobility soon.
Oh man, I remember the finger issues! I never thought I'd get through that. I wasn't told to, but it helped when I would massage each finger, up and down. I think it loosened up the muscles and joints. It's been about a year and a half since my radius and ulnar break and I still cannot put my palm face up. I can put weight on it and all, but that's the one thing that's still driving me crazy and I'm afraid I've gone beyond the point of it getting any better. I have MS so I'm glad I at least got back some strength to help me push up from my wheelchair and all.
Bummer you had so much pain. My pain only lasted a couple days. Probably because my fractured pelvis hurt WAY more. I guess I’m really fortunate. Good luck on your progress 👍👍💪💪
I just had ORIF wrist surgery and just got home . They put a nerve block so I’lll be numb in my right arm for 24 hours or more. When the numbers goes away I need to take the oxycodone for pain. My arm is in a cast and splint and completely dead right now. I had spinal fusion 4 years ago. Both injuries from falling .
What a great video! I have researched and researched and this is the first time I've seen someone who has described my experience s/p fx R right radius with surgery almost to a T!! I had/have that burning pain you described, sausage fingers, finger exercises, etc. I had surgery Nov 4, cast off mid Dec., therapy 2xweek. Returning slowly to function...but that burning scar 👎👎 THANK YOU for the video!
I just broke mine 3 days ago after falling backwards off a lounge. No surgery needed thankfully but it's so painful! I just got it in a full cast today.
Apparently there are different time frames and everyone heals differently and I suppose the severity of the of the injury matters… b.u.t. I had the same surgery and about 2 weeks they had me in PT… I’m about 7 weeks post surgery now b.u.t. Im out splint and my wrist is still stiff somewhat and I’m doing more excessive exercises… I want to rush it and get back to normal b.u.t. like you said it takes time and patience… Also I find it comforting seeing everyone’s journey on their injuries.. feel free to reply and inform me of you all journey to getting better
I didn’t get surgery, I wish I did, seven weeks in a cast being told it was adequate, but three months in it’s not adequate I feel like this wrist, hand is useless. I’m doing lots to get back mostly what I saw you doing but I still cannot form a proper fist, I cannot hold a pen. I’m thinking do I need to after three months go and have surgery or keep preserving, I just don’t know and the health people are not much help, but yes I am trying so hard to exercise to get back so you have given me hope, I need to get back to work.
Not good, 3.5 months still cannot clench a fist because of swelling actual wrist is still painful and weak. Now considering what should have happened in the first place, surgery
@@Carenotzzz yeah.. 3 months is rough… surgery probably is the answer now.. I’d get with my doctor asap and find the best way if I were you… also in the meantime if you can move your elbow I’d advise holding your arm straight up in the air for a few minutes at a time to let blood flow down your arm.. because I was told having your arm bent will stop the blood flow and also make some kind of artery in your elbow to lock up… hope this is helpful for you.. I had surgery about 7 weeks ago and just want to help everyone else going through this injury get through it.. because it definitely sucks being one handed
I had the same problem and I changed my orthopedic doctor to a reputable hand surgeon after 3.5 months. He did a malunion correction surgery and bone graft. I'm just out my cast for the second time but am more hopeful.
@@LisaJoyce-gj5il yep now five months in and just been told probably need corrective surgery. I have been saying the whole time if I need surgery tell me because I need to get back to work (right wrist), now I’m going to have to just suffer the pain five mths with no work, I cannot afford potentially three more months off work. I’m so angry and frustrated
Had my cast removed after 6 weeks for a distal radius and ulna fracture. Wearing my splint and doing stretching exercises. Now I have burning, tingling and numbness into my hand and fingers. Was told that my median nerve is irritated from the fracture. Still very swollen over the ulna.
😊 a great video I got my wrist cast off two weeks ago. And you speak about having pain I wondered did you take Tylenol or anything at all to help do your exercises. God bless you Susan
DUDE!!… THANK YOU so much. I’m 1 month post surgery & am experiencing most of the frustrations you shared. You somehow made me feel like , “I will get through this” “ this too shall pass”. So glad you’re getting better & NOW I know I WILL TOO. Thank you! God bless.😊
Absolutely! You'll get through this. :)
I hope your recovery is going well, hang in there brother
me 2 . one month post surgery , left hand
now I begin with therapy 😌 very painful.
Thank you 😊 🙏
@@DaisyCruz-yr3bu Thank you
I continue to watch your video to give myself encouragement that I could do this and know that my wrist will heal at some point.
L
How is it now?
After much searching I have finally found a video of an actual person who is experiencing the same type of injury as i am. 09/20/21 was my accident and I have another week to go until the cast is removed. I too have a plate and screws and most likely will need to wear a splint after the cast, and physio...a long recovery! Thank you for the very informative and helpful video.
Glad you found this helpful. It takes time for healing so don't push yourself too hard. Stay active to get your blood flowing and move your fingers throughout the day.
How's going bro?
@@akilislam0 All good. I'm back to my normal routine. Strength and mobility has returned. I'm grateful to be feeling good. I'm still doing stretches and exercises every day to keep active.
How much time it takes to have complete wrist movement after surgery
How much time it takes for fingers making zero or making fist with hand
SO thankful found you. Yesterday and today lowest period. Three days cast off, removed wires... SUPER painful, thought NEVER would recover, given me hope 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Btw, smothering your arm and fingers in Vicks Vapour Rub so helpful in pain relief and increasing flexibility.
Thank you so much for your information, I’m five weeks after surgery, not started physio yet, I’m hopeful after watching you, thank you 2024
It’s reassuring to hear your progress. I broke my wrist 3.5 months ago and still working on getting it back to preinjury. You’re right. Small steps but celebrate the progress. Keep us in the loop on your continued recovery.
Thank you. Had surgery 2 weeks ago and can hardly move my thumb and really relate to the burning pain. So helpful.
Good to know there’s light at the end of the tunnel with this surgery. Hope that by now you’re 100%. I’m a month out and still struggling with the pain and my frozen thumb.
Please take care of yourself. You'll get more dexterity and strength in time. I'm grateful to be back at 100%.
Thank you so much for sharing i also broke my wrist 3 months ago, now i am almost ok your video help me from get out fear
Thanks for the series of videos! I'm currently 2 weeks post radius surgery (5 weeks post fracture) and have my ulna broken too. To say it's been challenging would be an understatement. Hope your injury is now just a distant memory.
Wishing everyone timely and full healing!
How are you doing now I’m currently at the two week mark
Thank you 😊 ❤
I had an accident on 19th December 2021, I broke the radius bone and had ulc thumb injury.
Good luck!
Wow finally someone who went through the operation...thank you sir
Dont break your wrist..
if you are 60 years old like me, be careful
we are not spring chicken anymore 😢
Also, while in the shower with the water as hot as I can handle I work my hand. That tends to make my joints/ tendons loose n I work them then.
Hello I’m curious are you healed yet?? I went through the same surgery
So validating to hear someone else's similar experience.
I'm happy that this video was helpful. I hope you heal quickly. :)

Same here bro
How r you mam now?.bcz i fractured my radius on 22 july 2022 n got fixator now after removing screws it becomes very hard n stiff ..
Thank you so much for the sharing. I m now in 2nd week after the operation. Your explanation very helpful.
Great video thx broke my wrist with surgery...
I am so lucky that I found your videos, I’m waiting for surgery date, I have so many questions unanswered because I have to pull the information out of the surgeon who did not explain anything I mean nothing at all, not my options, not what is going to happen. He has not returned my calls so I’m really scared
Very useful information. Going through this process now, so painful! So debilitating!
I also canot rotate my palm flat . Doctor asked me not to do that till fracture gets connected .
God Luck to you don’t give up,keep exercising all will be better us you do much at Home 🙏💜🙏 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🇩🇪
They took back slab of after I had plate screws and I got worse where I didn't feel well and the burning pain , I was day 7 and a week after I had to ice daily for pain
swelling with moving my fingers. To sleep everything hurt , made a splint ruler and bandage to protect it. I am under 4 weeks from car accident with hip rib fractures
so sleep everything hurts up most nights . I pray for you to recover well and I am encouraged to exercise more but want to wait till 6 weeks. I Massage fingers stiff
swollen and to move them more.
9 screws, and a plate. i had a motorcycle accident that caused me to break my wrist. i also had broken my ulna. my distal radius was displaced as well
I just broke mine 1 week ago. Having surgery on Tuesday very nervous about all this it's my dominant hand
Same surgery 3 months ago..But iam not ok.i have pain and can't work. After how long can i do Heavy work, please sir tell me.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I fractured my wrist end November. I haven't got a cast now but its difficult to see how it'll get back to normal. You're video is reassuring.
I had a broken wrist.i agree with everything you say.it will pass but just awful pain to go through.....keep stong
That's awesome. Celebrate every win.
@maric4844 how are you doing now? May I know why you required the 2nd surgery? I was told the metal plate and screws stay permanetly in the wrist.
Infinitas gracias por tu video. Me has ayudado demasiado.
Very comforting words thank you still have my little finger is still numb can't feel it after 7 weeks haven't start therapy yet.
So helpful! Just had this surgery 6 days ago. 😮
im so thankful of your video sir, im 3 weeks after my surgery and when i see your video we are both the same scar ,,its very frustrating ,i hope you do more video about the the therapy .
Knitting has helped my recovery.
What a great way to practice different hand movements. That's awesome.
I just had surgery a week ago. Did you have surgery? How are you now? I have pins and needles at the tips of my fingers; especially my index finger. It is bothersome.
@@MaryViola1234How us it now?
It’s extremely painful I broke mine a year ago and my fingers are bend forward and I experience a lot of swelling 😢😢
Thank you so much ,one week ago .. September 9 ,2024 remove my cast .I feel the pain
How’s your progress now I’m about 7 weeks post surgery
Thanks for your videos! Just had sutures out and in metal/lace up wrist brace. Working on my fingers now! Small win!
@@MichaelDelgado Thanks a lot for your kind words! I keep practising and will try the warm massage with the olive oil soon, inspired! Many blessings X
I also broke my wrist, my fingers are like claw and I can't get them to straight, specially my pinky. I can't rotate my wrist too. Don't know what to do, but thanks to your video, I got an idea on what to do. I hope these works for me too
Hello, how is your recovery doing? Are you moving your fingers and wrist now?
the tube bandage is a godsend. still use when my arm is upset as its just a gentle compression
Thanks for the video, really helpful. 6 weeks post wrist surgery and great to see the progress that is possible!
How abt wrist? My wrist is too stiff like someone have locked it from moving
I went through the same thing. I also had the foam block. Extreme pain.
I really appreciate you posting this. I’m paying for my injury/surgery out of pocket as I’m currently in between jobs without insurance and trying to avoid a lot of PT! This is so helpful.
Appreciate this video especially about the pain and lack of sleep. Thought I was going crazy. I’m 6 weeks post surgery #2 and finally the pain has lessened and I can sleep a bit.
me too! Im 6 weeks out from surgery and im finally able to sleep through the night.
Thank you so much for this video . Love the “celebrate the small wins” . Got my surgery done 4 weeks ago and started PT yesterday. I
Yes it’s a long way but I’m gonna keep celebrating the small wins along the way.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Bummer you had so much pain. My pain only lasted a couple days. Probably because my fractured pelvis hurt WAY more. I guess I’m really fortunate. Good luck on your progress 👍👍💪💪
Whoa! Fractured pelvis? I can't even imagine the pain. How did you do that? So sorry to hear.
@@MichaelDelgado BMX accident. 55 years old and BMX don’t intersect to well sometimes. When I get back at it I’ll be wearing WAY more safety gear.👍
Hi, how was your supination at 3 months. I am approaching 3 months and full supination seem hard to get. Thank you
Apparently there are different time frames and everyone heals differently and I suppose the severity of the of the injury matters… b.u.t.
Hey how’s your progress??
