- In the process of dealing with a dead sprag clutch, I found something which can cause a knocking noise on these machines which sounds like a worn big end, but it may not be that ...
I hope the sprocket play is not caused by wear on the shaft 🤞you will be already be more than halfway to the solution no doubt. It's quite exciting waiting for the next video Paul I feel like an apprentice watching a craftsman !
Another nice fault found by the master well done Paul my best wishes from the Philippines ❤️💪👍😀😉😁🏁🏍️🛺🐑🇵🇭🏴
Thanks 👍
Thanks Paul.
G'day Paul, it's in the right hand, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
could you do a video on the sprag clutch change please murf
Engine looks so much better without electric start electric start looks like an add-on which it is.
Hopefully the mainshaft has not been damaged. Is this similar to the fretting caused by a loose alternator rotor with an enlarged keyway on a Pre-unit Triumph?
It can be, although mainshaft and centres through the primary drive sprockets can vary a little in the case of some Indian RE machines and another sprocket might be a tighter fit ...
Not a big fan of those primary drive chain set ups . Last time I owned a bike with that kind of set up . The chain ended up clanking about due to its design having no provision for a chain tensioner to be fitted ,causing the clutch basket & crank case cover to detach themselves ,in a pool of gear oil on the main village high street . But I suppose you have to make the best out of what RE present you with ,& it gives you chance to utilise your mechanical & problem sorting skills & entertain us . 👍
Ah - these have a chain tensioner, but I perhaps hadn't fitted it at the point where I made the video.
@@paulhenshaw4514 Ah that’s good news , never could understand having any internal engine chain drive fitted ,without some kind of tensioner device ,except maybe for short oil pump chains under less stress . I had the misfortune to own a Jawa 350 twin 2 stroke ,that had a primary chain no tensioner or even provision for one , it used to clank like hell & rattle like a Swiss cobblers shop on piece rate at tick over . All quite normal I was informed , it ended up as described in my first comment , disaster . Always been weary of primary drive chains since . 👍
As a matter of interest, the Triumph Tiger Cubs have no primary chain tensioner, you just replace the chain when it gets too sloppy and hope it hasn't chewed into any parts of the casing!
@@paulhenshaw4514 What’s the average mileage of a Tiger cub ,before it’s primary drive chain gets too slack . The Jawa 350 primary drive chain ,was clanking at around 4 ,500 miles . 👍
I don't really know off hand - depends on how they are used and maintained, I guess.
