Definitely! Just getting started with 250k.Just do a full 120k service with all fluids changed, new spark plugs and timing belt and water pump and be good to go for another 100k plus
@@tvm2209 At our independent Lexus/ Toyota shop in the Pacific Northwest, we charge $800 for the 120k and $1200 for the timing belt kit,so for 2 grand ,you're set for major maintenance for a long while
That’s my issue. I’m not very handy. There’s a 2006 at the dealer up the street that has a minimal records and needs work. Has 180k miles and the only things documented are timing belt and water pump replacement and brake job at 155k. My mechanic says it needs some attention. About 3 to 4K but it’s hard to say with no records. And they are asking $10,500.
Fix it for sure! Then turn it into a great overland rig with a few easy upgrades - shocks, rock sliders, wheels/tires, and maybe some bumpers. I have an 2003 with 265k miles with zero engine or transmission problems. Most of these 470’s last a very long time.
I'm in a market to buy an 03 with 202k miles. Price is set on 9k since im in California. Should I go for it? Expecting 2nd kid so extra space will def help out
@@idkwhtimduin It could be a good deal but I would not just “go for it.” Do a little research and inspect the car. For 9K I would expect it to be very clean inside/out and the every 90K mile timing belt service completed. The timing belt service is expensive. See if they have all the maintenance and service receipts. If it’s been garaged with 1 or 2 owners and taken care of this could be a good deal.
Just had my 2005 230km GX470 at Hawk Pride Mountain & it absolutely slayed! I was one shot’n stuff most others got towed or winched through. Got a little over 20k in the total build. 3” toytech lift, triple locked, 4.56 gear, 33” BFG km, RCV axles. +++
I have had mine for 20 years, its in a lot better condition- I need to replace the drive train ( I'm rough on cars and blow transmissions like its a thing) this car handled my driving for 20 years and I see it as a best friend. The air suspension is shot and I'm getting that replaced as well. I bought a Lexus ES 350 6 cylinder has better milage as a daily driver due to gas prices. I will have the GX on the road for Ohio winters, why not. No car payment. It has over 200,000 miles and I can get up to 500,000 I think the engine still purrs like a baby kitten.
There is one here in Portland w/ 88k miles, post timing belt/water pump fix, for ............ $27k TADA!! 2004. Wish I was looking around two years ago not now.
Definitely a gem if you picked it up cheap. These things will run forever. I’d invest some money to sort out the engine, and start with new Toyota ATF to see if that will correct the shifting issue.
Fix it. I just bought one with 280,000 miles and was very lucky to find one. These vehicles are in high demand. The Mitsubishi Monterey is another popular SUV in short supply. People are shopping the web looking for these. Fix it.
My friend is a Doctor and those guys drive on call from hospital to hospital day and night. Back to the office in the morning. He puts more miles on a car than a teenager.
It all comes down to two services. Was the oil changed regularly and was the transmission fluid changed regularly. Everything else can be fixed and replaced for relatively cheap but if those two services were not done when they were suppose to run like its the plague.
DEFF worth fixing, that 10/10 condition frame alone makes it worth a lot especially if you live in Northern states of US or here in Canada. If you work on it yourself youll atleast get your money back when you sell it if not for some thick fat profit. it not an american pos

Love the 470’s! Good grab! Do those early models have KDSS? I bought an 06 tundra DC this week and appreciated your tundra v. Sequoia videos! Do more tundra content!! 👍🏻
The KDSS was an available option starting in 2004 but its a super rare option. My next Tundra video will probably be 1st gen double cab vs 2nd gen double cab. Thanks for watching!
I bought my timing belt, water pump in a kit on EBay plus the shocks. It might need a new radiator soon on this car you bought. You could get easy $7000 because everyone wants these for off roading.
You might just have a converter thats worn . Keep the old fluid in and try some Additive with grip enhancers 1st. Lucas has a good transmission fix. Tear it apart if that wont help. The old fluid has more grip than new fluid. Lot of people have trouble after changing fluid thats been in to long . Its just to pure and wont let parts grip.
Curious if trans is some switch or solenoid or seal leaks, is there enough fluid? … If engine compression is good, it may be worth getting a fresh remanufactured transmission, and doing the full water pump and belts engine kit. You have a great chassis on this vehicle, it hasn’t been abused. I would try to price out a full mechanical restoration, because these cars are valued.
what did you pay? that is the question.. my 2005 GX with 150k miles looks mint compared to that. But, I am sure I paid a little more....also a FL car though.
Hope you got it running better for about as much as you acquired it from your doctor friend... AND running gooder than when you last looked at it two years ago.. Wish i could find one here in NW Florida... ALOHA myFriend. You are truly blessed..
Definitely! Just getting started with 250k.Just do a full 120k service with all fluids changed, new spark plugs and timing belt and water pump and be good to go for another 100k plus

Totally worth fixing! Even if it needs a new trans it could easily be worth over 6k if it gets sorted out mechanically.
Worth Fixing ! Frame is in excellent condition ! V8's are becoming more rare ! 👍🏻😆
All items wrong with the truck are manageable. Definitely worth fixing.

I’ve seen two in L.A. with 700k

Buy one that’s rough and add new parts. It’s better than buying one that’s good to go but with old parts.
The one in my driveway has 275k and we plan to keep it until it dies. If you really like it fix it.
Wow, he bought it around 180k two years ago and now has 250k? He really put it to use. That's good.
He abused the shit out of it… who puts 40k on a 20 yet old car
