Someone caught the Archspire bug, awesome! It happened to me about a year ago through a recommendation from Apple Music and I must say, it has completely ruined my deathcore library 😂
@@THIS_IS_SPARTA696thats awesome. I love that for you Check out allegaeon and obscura. Cheers on your musical journey. Hope you find shit you like, brother.
Dean Lamb (Archspire guitarist) has a nice TH-cam channel, maybe you guys could do something together because he seems really open to talk about his music and how it is perceved. Great video as usual, the fellas
The trying to know what they are screaming is what gets a lot of people. If you listen to the vocals as just another instrument, it blends in with everything
Absolutely. With some of these bands it's just about the music and I don't care what he's singing about. Most of the lyrics with these bands are written around some crazy science fiction shit they made up anyway, so there's not much meaningful to get out of it. But I'm not listening to Archspire to dissect lyrics.
@@metalboy27yeah, there's rules about what the lyrics CAN'T be, like no "praise jesus", and no "i love you baby" kinda stuff, but that's as far as lyrics mattering goes in Death Metal. Leave meaningful lyrics to other genres and subgenres, Death Metal is about the music itself.
Archspire is my favorite band! I'm an absolute fanboy. Im a musician playing for 16 years. I play Metal, Classical Music, Orchestral Music and Experimental Music too. Great intro keys.
Gotta get some The Faceless (Planetary Duality era) and/or The Zenith Passage happening. Also while I'm at it, need some Dillinger and Car Bomb action on the channel too! And more Animals As Leaders wouldn't hurt nobody.
I love Judson's interpretation of "Heart Shaped Box", that was beautiful. ❤ Great song of a very interesting band, I'm not necessarily a big fan of Archspire, but I can appreciate the talent and their unique amalgam of different cool stuff, like oriented-trap guttural vocals with ultra speed Tech Death.
I'm just getting into Archspire these days and hearing this song alongside you guys was really fun. I am still holding out for the day you guys hit up some Fleshgod Apocalpyse. Would love to see you're reactions to The Violation.
Awesome Heart Shaped Box cover and Archspire just clicked for me through this video. Friends have tried to get me into them and failed before, but this song did it. Thanks dudes
I highly recommend Abandon the Linear as the next Archspire track, no catchy video but absolutely solid composition. Greeting from Canada, love your channel!
When it comes to pushing the envelope as far as technical death metal is concerned, Archspire are a cut above everyone else at the moment, I believe.. 👌👌
The opera comparison is actually making me think about "Of Horror and the Black Shawls" by Anaal Nathrakh. And that's a song about the stock market, of all things
I've been listening to these guys for the past few weeks non-stop. They're truly great. I want to see them in concert if possible. Hope you guys enjoy it
@@metaldrummersonly4402They are amazing in both personality and their sheer talent. I've been a fan for a bit over a decade now; on the first ever Tech Trek Tour, my friend was the promoter for the Toronto show. Archspire were just about to release "Lucid Collective Somnambulation" and were co headling with Beyond Creation, who I was already a fan of, as that promoter friend and I knew Forest from opening for shows for Quo Vadis and Augury when we were in a band together in the early 2000's and Forest was in those two bands. The Archspire guys crashed at my place after the show! They were so appreciative at the time, but they never remember me whenever I talk to them after a show these days! Considering how little I remember about people I meet even a month ago, I can't blame them! They just keep getting better. I guess part of the reason they do what they do is because they enjoy to challenge themselves. I've seen them around half a dozen times live by now and it's amazing how much they've exploded in popularity in recent years. I'm so glad they're getting the recognition they deserve! It's been great watching them go from playing bars to large venues! They certainly put in the work!
Even while I was about 3 metres away from them live, I still couldn’t believe what I was seeing . It’s insane they pull it off and also oli is hilarious on stage. Highly recommend
Catchy, groovy and melodic! Combined with their undeniable talent and Oli's unique machine gun singing, they are truly amazing! Can't wait to see them live on June 1st!
I think I saw an interview where Oli talked about the meaning behind Bleed the Future. If I remember right, he had a dream where alien parasite things invaded and their pools of golden blood were mirrors into the future or something like that and he just ran with that idea creating this whole horror-based story/lore. Though maybe that didn't happen and I'm making it all up but it sounds like something I heard lol
Many people are suggesting Drone Corpse Aviator, but I'd like to offer Reverie on the Onyx by Archspire. While there isn't a video, I feel like Judson would appreciate what is basically a tech death version of Lacrimosa by Mozart. A number of riffs in this gem are almost note to note Beethoven runs as well
Great piano intro, and great reaction. I've seen others say, and I agree, Drone Corpse Aviator would be a fun reaction, especially as the video is so wild. I'd love to see Judson react to Cryptopsy; Phobophile or And Then it Passes are a few of my favourites for different reasons. Keep it up fellas!
It is indeed a concept album, listening to Oli talk about how the concept came about is pretty hilarious. He basically just had a really weird and fucked up dream and ran with it.
this is an absolute banger, i'd personally start someone off with the title track from bleed the future, that's actually what clicked for me, made me somewhat understand some of the things they do and then get into their other stuff, top 2 album of '21 for me p.s somebody suggested people play the bleed the future lyric vid on like 0.25 speed and listen how Oli enunciates everything perfectly, its actually impressive
PLEASE both of you check out First Fragment. If your metalhead friends loves Archspire, then I believe you Judson will love First Fragment. Imagine if Archspire had a lot more Baroque going on. Vitrified Entity even more so. I promise you won't be disappointed. Regardless, love watching the varied reactions of someone that doesn't really listen to metal lol. It's not exactly in the same vein as metalheads trying to jumpscare non-metal listeners with breakdowns.
Are they not the most talented bunch ever? Any musician worthy of this name has to be in absolute awe in front of Archspire. To top it all, they make tech death that is catchy, groovy and melodic. Can't wait to see them live on June 1st!

Can't wait to see them live on June 1st!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you so very much! It was everything i hoped for and so much more! Watching Judsons facial expressions go off the rails is just priceless! Again, thank you very, very much!
I always tell people who don't like metal vocals just to think of the vocals as another "sonic layer". It's not the words, but the cadence, the flow, and how the the vocals connect the passages.
If Judson likes concept albums and lore coheed and cambria would be good to dive into. They have a whole storyline over multiple albums, and I think they are great musically. Also I normally don't comment but I watch all your videos, love the dynamic of both of you
Two things, that Heart Shaped Box cover, BEAUTIFUL. Second, he didnt seem to dislike it cant wait to see him react to AUM specially that sample at the beginning also cant wait to see how he reacts to Vulvodynia, also sad that Vulvodynia lost their main vocalist due to stuff but cant wait to see what they come up with up next. In the topic of the lyrics, what I found is: "Lyrically, the album tells the story of a world where humans have started giving birth to creatures called the Boanet. Vocalist Oli Peters discussed the album’s concept with their record label Season of Mist: I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them. What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to - if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil. Bleed the Future also shares some thematic elements with Archspire’s previous album, particularly in the first and last tracks. “Drone Corpse Aviator” directly parallels Relentless Mutation, focusing on the flying mutant corpses described in songs “Human Murmuration,” and “Calamus Will Animate.” Additionally, the album’s final track mentions two of the main subjects of Relentless Mutation: a cult-like group known as A.U.M. and a mysterious black substance called The Drip. The A.U.M. is also referred to in “Golden Mouth of Ruin.”
Could have shown him first one of those tracks that contain musical quotes from Mozart's Requiem, like Remote Tumor Seeker, or Reverie on the Onyx :) edit: watched the whole video now. Never seen him so concentrated before, and literally on the edge of his seat :))
Dude is wearing a Viscera hoodie - nice! Don't know many people who are into Viscera. I'm a big fan of Jamie Graham, in his Sylosis era, Heart Of A Coward and now Viscera!
Honestly, Judson is really on point with his comparison to opera singers actually singing in a different language. Guttural vocals are honestly kind of their own language in music. Once you hear enough bands that use the various techniques of producing harsher vocals, you start to pick up on the patterns of each variation, and then hearing a new band that uses a style you've heard one-hundred times, you can much more easily pick out exactly what they're saying. That aside, great pick for introducing Judson to more technical stuff. This song is easily my favorite track on the album, because it has so much overt groove, but mingles it seamlessly with Archspire's aggressive and technical compositional style.
i love oli because his vocals compliment the drums very well and they are not meant to be understood, at least not at first listen, but i also love will ramos because his vocals are like a whole nother instrument.
Great video as usual. Speaking of Vulvodynia, I thought it would be cool if you showed Judson some Kraanium (they're toured together not long ago). Keep up the good work
I loved Judson’s face when the guttural came in, but loved the Heart Shaped Box cover even more! Slowing it down made it much more melancholy. Would like to hear Judson’s interpretation of “Something I Can Never Have” by NIN. 🤘
I feel like these might be some good choices for other videos: Éclosion from Hatalom, Eminence Emergence from Arkaik, Blacker Than or Unburied from Vale of Pnath, Radiatus Generis from Cytotoxin, Hybrid Suns from Exocrine
If you look at the liner notes you can also see the lyrics to guttural vocals. It’s no harder than relying on a translation of a language with which you’re not familiar…
I think I feel the same way about the gutteral voice. I enjoy Archspire more than any other Heavy Metal with guttural because by having his voice in time with the beat, it feels like just a separate instrument than just a voice over top of the instruments. Where other screams, I know they are trying to say words and I find myself trying to understand and pulls me out of enjoying the music
Archspire is one of those bands I've heard the name of a million times but never really listened to before. I like the music, some parts reminded me little of the bands 'The Devils Of Loudun' or 'Inferi'. I'm really not a fan of the fast rap-pace vocals personally though. I'd love to see you guys react to some Be'lakor! They're one of my favorite bands of all time, up there with TBDM (though different styles). They're melodic death metal, but not usually really fast paced. Songs I'd suggest as starters: -Countless Skies -In Parting -An Ember's Arc -Much More Was Lost Those second 2 are part of concept albums that tell stories. An Ember's Arc is the start of a story for its album and it's about the fusion in the sun creating a photon of light, so there's no needed context other than "it continues from there". Much More Was Lost is the last song of an album, so just for context the people that the kids come across in their adventures in that song are references to victims of tragic lives in the other songs. It's about the kids losing their innocence and blissful ignorance of the sadness of the world so to speak. The album as a whole is a collection of tragic stories of people living around a mountain over time.
That's what I've been saying, gutturals are better used as another instrument of a death metal song, rather than as the main course like it is in rock or pop rock music. There the singer usually is the main focus. I think that in death metal, vocals shine best as part of the instrumentals
Seeing as Judson mentioned he likes it when bands create their own lore, can i point you in the direction of the band The Gloom in the Corner? Their discography is one big clusterfuck of a story. Musically, the most interesting song is probably Hail to the King, but its also the latest song in the siory currently, so you can start anywhere you choose really lol
Hearing you discuss technical death metal, operatic/classical elements, Italians.... would be cool to do some Fleshgod Apocalypse. Their death metal / classical mixture could be interesting to react to.
DAY OF ASKING: 1 i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend u guys the album: A Tunnel To Eden by Alustrium Genre: idk exaclty BUT its progressive, technical and very melodic. Topic: its all about who we are, whats the purpose of life and also about religious beliefs and more. because the whole Album is so good and so interesting to read the lyrics, i would recommend going through the whole thing OR the songs: The Illusion of Choice I: Genesis, or A Tunnel To Eden. insane musicianship and songwriting like i said, i hope u guys check them out some time and i wish u a nice day!
Please let him listen to Slice the cake - Odyssey to the west (the whole album) and if you havent yet you should too.... its a deathcore, poetic, storytelling tech death masterpiece ..... Its one of the all time top favorite albums. The experience of first time listening to it will not dissappoint you.
First fragment and Obscura next please. First Fragment have classical influence. I think he will like them more. But most importantly listen to the old Rhapsody and Luca Turilli albums. Crazy neoclassical compositions. Luca Turilli is an amazing composer
you guys should do a Psycroptic song off their first album the isle of disenchantment if you want a band that makes their own fantasy world in their lyrical writing. As good as this band is, (and i love tech death, my favorite genre for sure) bands these days simply play to many chorus changes, it doesn't even sound like a song at some points just different instrumentals going off in different directions, almost as if the song doesn't have a main rhythm section at all. That band knows how to keep their groove while keeping it technical (when its appropiate, in my opinion).
Heart Shape Box sounded beautiful.
Must agree, very very well layed out
So nice
You are the one who is beautiful!

Out of all the music reaction channels I’ve enjoyed, you two are my soul mates, no homo.
If you look at the liner notes you can also see the lyrics to guttural vocals. It’s no harder than relying on a translation of a language with which you’re not familiar…
i always asked myself is that scene was a green-screen. I guess I know now. Makes it even cooler :)
Heart Shaped Box and Nothing Else Matters
Archspire is one of those bands I've heard the name of a million times but never really listened to before. I like the music, some parts reminded me little of the bands 'The Devils Of Loudun' or 'Inferi'. I'm really not a fan of the fast rap-pace vocals personally though.
I'd love to see you guys react to some Be'lakor! They're one of my favorite bands of all time, up there with TBDM (though different styles). They're melodic death metal, but not usually really fast paced. Songs I'd suggest as starters:
-Countless Skies
-In Parting
-An Ember's Arc
-Much More Was Lost
Those second 2 are part of concept albums that tell stories.
The album cover fits the name of the song very well. It'd be cool if you do a little snippet of album arts in your videos
If Judson likes fantasy worlds in songs, get some Bal-Sagoth or Immortal on!
Love these videos guys, keep it up!
Hearing you discuss technical death metal, operatic/classical elements, Italians.... would be cool to do some Fleshgod Apocalypse. Their death metal / classical mixture could be interesting to react to.
Remind me of Ramin Djawadi's version of Heart shaped box, you can hear it in the tv show Westworld, he did a few other cover of rock classics
Fun fact for your piano friend: the beginning of the tapping riff at 6:09 is based on Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement :D
I thought the background was just a greenscreen, but no! that's a real theatrical setting! how cool is that?
HUMAN MURMURATION
DAY OF ASKING: 1
i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend u guys the album: A Tunnel To Eden by Alustrium
Genre:
idk exaclty BUT its progressive, technical and very melodic.
Topic:
its all about who we are, whats the purpose of life and also about religious beliefs and more.
because the whole Album is so good and so interesting to read the lyrics, i would recommend going through the whole thing
OR
the songs: The Illusion of Choice I: Genesis, or A Tunnel To Eden.
insane musicianship and songwriting like i said, i hope u guys check them out some time and i wish u a nice day!
It’s not metal, but I’d love to hear Judson process Lingus by Snarky Puppy. Kinda jazz, kinda fusion, really cool.
