I'm surprised there hasnt been any Death (Schuldiner) yet. A good strong death (genre) that is much simpler and sure to not be "too much" as he says, would be Bolt Thrower. E.g. "When cannons fade" is IMO one of the best songs ever.

9:20 Most of the brutal metal heads i know are nothing but big teddy bears with nothing but love and purity in their hearts. Its a catharsis listening to this stuff.
Exactly the right term. Metal for me is an emotional release, and good metal songs are like diamonds in a sea of dust. Most other music is just fake, plasticy to me. Polished and produced to appeal to anyone and everyone. But in so doing it loses its soul. In metal, raw, unfiltered expression is celebrated and brings people together

Definitely heard about Necrophagist, but never took the time to listen to them, thanks for bringing them to my attention through this channel. For the longest time i couldnt articulate the difference between death and black metal but now its pretty clear. Of course, i heard about the classic separation that people make by referring to the lyrics and the subject matter but to mem, it was always an effy difference. Cant classify metal sub-genres by the topic of the lyrics, it just doesnt sound right. On the other hand, production is really different. For example, its pretty known that early black metal bands were competing with each others to have the worst production, something that was never a thing in death metal. Also, the drum patterns in black metal can be pretty punk-like and that, again, never happens in death metal.
There is band from USA called Virophacus (I think is a one man band) He released and EP called Unus on 2019, their songs are extremely like Necrophagist style.

I was/am! I remember the first time I heard of them. I believe it was summer 2007 and I was at a show in Memphis. The lineup was Terror, Bleeding Through, Animosity and Through the Eyes of the Dead. I think? I’m not 100% sure on that lineup. When the show is over and everyone is exiting the building, there are people at the doors, handing out flyers for a concert that’s coming up soon and the flyer is the artwork from Akeldama. I went home, looked them up on Myspace and loved it. Went back to the show they were promoting and the lineup was Job For A Cowboy A Life Once Lost The Faceless Despised Icon Those were the days.

The whole record is a great listen. The other recommendation is a band called Yautja from Nashville, specifically the album The Lurch. I couldn't put them in a box if I wanted to.

I really dig y'alls channel . I always look forward to Juds piano at the beginning to figure out what song he's playing. Good Job dudes.
@@cbrolison thank you. I usually come to Atlanta once or twice a year for shows. Last year it was Bodysnatcher, Angelmaker, and Paleface. March or April? I can’t remember. It’s about a 4 hour drive for me but sometimes it’s the closest venue that some of these show come to for us.
Mohammed is indeed a mechanical engineer at BMW and was soured on the music business after his experience with Relapse…
South Africa representing 🤘
This is what the channel's all about. As Bill Hicks would say, it was like watching a dog being shown a card trick. Very amusing.
Ps. Loving the new Great Measurea logo, really pops. Do i feel a t-shirt coming?
We hope so. We’re going to explore those options.
All of those sweep picked arpeggios damn 😅
great concept for a channel
Thanks for hanging out with us!
Watched this with Necrophagist t-shirt on me :D
no wayyy what a cheeky surprise :D
I'm just glad he got to hear it :)
Have him check out some Inferi like their song Behold the Bearer of Light!
I can’t explain why, but “Destroyer” is my favorite Inferi song. I like Behold the Bearer of Light too, though.
@@Greatmeasures That's another great one! I got to see them live a few months ago an they played both :D
@@zooly132 I want to see them live so badly. The stars haven’t aligned for that to happen yet, but maybe one day.
I have to thank my twin for introducing me to this band.. The Lead is beautiful. That is what brought me mostly to enjoy that band plus they are all very talented.
11:20 "I dont have much man", I love when youtube brings me this, just people being people, not being youtubers.
You should have done only ash remains since it ends in an excerpt from Romeo and Juliet, the montages and capulets, by Prokofiev! I feel like he would have thought that was interesting!
Richard we're going to need a full album reaction to Epitaph! 😅
I'm surprised there hasnt been any Death (Schuldiner) yet. A good strong death (genre) that is much simpler and sure to not be "too much" as he says, would be Bolt Thrower. E.g. "When cannons fade" is IMO one of the best songs ever.
Bolt Thrower is great, a lot more straight-forward musically than this too.
Was fortunate to catch these guys at Harpo's back in the day. Blown away...then nothing. Well, not nothing, like 10 straight years on the New Year's "most anticipared albums of..."
😂 This is true. I’ve been Rick Rolled so many times by “New Necrophagist” headlines.
@@GreatmeasuresI got super fired up over an April fools announcement of their 3rd album release. Christmas is canceled, adult version
You know the solo slays when it just randomly cuts to the verse riff for a short measure just because they can. With all the crazy tech death out there now and all of the evolving and progression, Necrophagist is still the solid standard. In 50 years from now people would still believe you if told them this album got released that day
Stabwound also should be checked
Agreed
9:20 Most of the brutal metal heads i know are nothing but big teddy bears with nothing but love and purity in their hearts.
Its a catharsis listening to this stuff.
Exactly the right term. Metal for me is an emotional release, and good metal songs are like diamonds in a sea of dust. Most other music is just fake, plasticy to me. Polished and produced to appeal to anyone and everyone. But in so doing it loses its soul. In metal, raw, unfiltered expression is celebrated and brings people together
2:25 FANTASTIC pronunciation
peak compositional skills
Truly one of the greatest bands ever.
God I love this band so much.
As fresh as the day it came out
Very nice. Love to see tech death on here
Where is he? He's a BMW mechanic!
"The mind that must come out of" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awesome format, love your interaction. Keep it real yo
Fermented offal discharge... Alright then 🎉
🤘
I saw them at the black sheep in Colorado springs in like 2008. He was really cool and let me get a picture with him and he made a Talladega Nights reference I didn't get cause I've never seen it.
"Shake and bake" is a funny thing to hear from someone with an accent like his.
The way Judson looks into the camera when the song stops ahahaha
In all likelihood, we will never get another Necrophagist album, so the next best thing is Alkaloid, featuring Hannes Grossmann on drums, who formerly played in Necrophagist. Last years 'Numen' album by Alkaloid is a progressive, technical death metal masterclass, and guitarist Christian Müenzner is definitely on par with Muhammed Suiçmez. Check it out! 🤘
Alkaloid is my last favorite discovery. I had the suggestion of their song "Cthulhu", than i listen to the "Liquid Anatomy" album & i've been automatically hocked. "Numa" is also a blast!🔥😎🤘
I love Alkaloid. I also plan to show him “Apparition” from Spawn of Possession at some point in the future. And of course some Obscura.
@@Greatmeasures Speaking of 'Obscura', maybe you should play him something of the album of the same name from Gorguts? That album has some of the most technical, complex, dizzying, angular, atonal and avantgarde death metal ever created. I bet that would really baffle him and leave him wondering what just happened.. 😁 Hell, that album still baffles even me, and I have listened to it repeatedly over the last 25 years. Truly a unique and one of a kind album, that took the genre places it had never gone before, and the rest of the technical death metal world is still catching up.. 🤗
@@pentheroliver3794 'Liquid Anatomy' was my AOTY in 2018, and 'Numen' was my AOTY in 2023, so you can imagine the love I have for Alkaloid.. 🤗 Flawless musicianship and excellent songwriting combined... 👌🤘👍😎
@@cbn6635 I like this idea. Start with something from Obscura and follow it up with something from Colored Sands?
Judson's face classic.
I wad just listening to some necrophagist earlier then this popped up. Awesome coincidence...
The intro melody of "für Elise" by Beethoven was used in a section in "The Stillborn one" by Muhammed - let him listen to it the next time, I'd be super funny if he'd recognized it!
I'm sure you have heard by now, but Angelmaker is from Vancouver B.C Canada
Id say his solo in this song is my fav solo of all time.
There is band from USA called Virophacus (I think is a one man band) He released and EP called Unus on 2019, their songs are extremely like Necrophagist style.
The names of some of the harder metal bands and albums are so cartoonishly brutal. It never stops being hilarious
You know, this music is crazy to mostly every single person at first until it's not..that's how we he enjoys it. Then you can listen to that song n revel in it'd amazingness or whatever dope heavy amazing band. I remember being a freshman in like 06. I was on ecstasy, jus rolln Real hard at Safeway lol. Sitting in the parking lot at night jus listen to this on my headphones. That was ecstacy
This feels like a perfect video to recommend Archspire's Drain of Incarnation on
You need to react to Deicide Dead by
Dawn. That was just right up to my Happy Place. Necrophagist needs to be played more..Great choice by our dudes from Great Measure...
Who threw you in the mosh tip as a baby ha ha…. amazing stuff this guy Necrophagist.
Yeah get rocked 🤣 \m/
You guys should check out Wintersun-Time.
8:28 I'm not sure if anyband does that type of delay effect without actual delay effects. It's crazy.
I put the solos from Allegeon’s “Biomech - Vals no. 666” and Revocation’s “Bound By Desire” in the same tier as this Necrophagist solo because my god are they mesmerizing 🔥 especially the Revocation solo I actually place that above the other two including the necrophagist solo. Y’all should try Bound By Desire By Revocation man 🔥🔥🔥 you wouldnt regret it and your viewers would also find /discover great music through it too! If they don’t already know it ofc
Man I thought that was Sal from impractical jokers
Hit him with something from Ulcerate - Stare into death and be still. They're from New Zealand and one of my favorite bands lately.
To me, Ulcerate is just about the best death metal band operating in the scene today... they represent everything I love for this genre of music... 😎 ...and Jamie Saint Merat has got to be one of the most innovative drummers out there... 👌
I'm not even a fan but I know of the band. I heard Muhammed is a mechanical engineer and "supposed" to be working at BMW but at this point it's all hearsay. A few people has seen him in a festival or two, that's about it.
Always like to see reaction to this song.
For the love of God, there has to be a reaction to the song Emotion Sickness by Silverchair!!!!
Richard are/were you into the band 'The Faceless' ?
especially their debut album 'Akeldama' i love that sound soo much
Went back to the show they were promoting and the lineup was
Job For A Cowboy
A Life Once Lost
The Faceless
Despised Icon
Those were the days.
@@Greatmeasures That's so awesome!! i wish i had the luxury of seeing all these bands live (i live in israel sadly xD) and yeahh 2003-2010ish Deathcore was the BEST
actually that solo is dope
Show him Spawn of Possession, it has more classical influences and he may understand it more.
"it's technical," yes it is 😂
I don't understand how a classically-trained pianist doesn't look at that song as just a distorted version of historical music.
I suspect Sebastian Bach would've given at least a 3-second golf-clap towards the effort.
He is working in Munich at BMW, he didn´t make muskic anymore;-)
"Tolle Maßnahmen" 🤣 Depending on what the name means to you, I'm thinking "Wesentliche Maßnamen" (as in fundamental, significant), "Grandiose Maßnahmen" (as in grandiose), or maybe even "Große Maßnahmen" (as in physically or metaphorically large).
Anyway, I've been enjoying this channel, thanks for putting it all together! I found Necrophagist just recently as I've been checking out more Tech Death, coming from a Doom/Stoner and generally experimental background. One band I found that I really like is Gorguts. Something off Colored Sands might be a good pick.
Also wanted to leave two general recommendations you might not be familar with. One is the band Huntsmen, specifially the song "Awake at Time's End" off of Mandala of Fear which is the most "not like the others" song on an already very stylistically varied album. The whole record is a great listen. The other recommendation is a band called Yautja from Nashville, specifically the album The Lurch. I couldn't put them in a box if I wanted to.
It seems Google Translate didn’t understand the context we were trying to use. Thank you for that info!
I was actually listening to “An Ocean of Widsom” on the way to the store to get groceries today. I need to add them to the list of things to show him.
I don’t know Huntsman or Yautja but I’ll check them out. Thank you!
