People comparing this to the Fiesta ST have to remember how much newer the ST's are in design. These things were kicking about in 2007, and are still fun to drive/ comparable to the current competition now. Most piston 4 problems are down to either people modding these cars without upgrading the almost maxed fuel injectors, or by driving them hard when they are cold.
Mark Scott The previous generation ST was around in 2007. There was an official Mountune version somewhere along the line. Not that I particularly like the Ford, but the Corsa VXR looks like a child's toy.
A Nother the Mk6 fiesta ST that the ford fuck boys should be relating to the Corsa vxr instead of the new 2013+ shape fiesta was a 2.0l naturally aspirated pushing 150 hp. It was also very front end heavy. both the Corsa and fiesta of the same era are good cars but people need to stop relating to an almost 10 year old car to a 4 year old one.
Totally agree, my last car was a 2007 Corsa VXR which I ran from 60,000 - 104,000 miles. Never once did the engine miss a beat due to it being standard (would've obviously uprated the injectors if I were to map it), serviced regularly and being allowed to warm up before driven hard. All of this P4 shit is simply caused by idiotic chavs who have no clue about car maintenance running them into the ground. +A Nother The Mk6 Fiesta was a total joke in comparison to the Corsa VXR, the engine was severely underpowered and lacked any tuning potential, excessively front heavy, handled like shit and the styling of it (especially compared to the Corsa) was dated and ugly. When you have a Corsa D VXR in front of you, there's absolutely no mistaking it for a standard SXI or SRI, the same definitely cannot be said for the Fiesta.
TANDEM boii you are right it's not a bad lump. As daft as it sounds a soft stage 1 engine with uprated injectors is probably safer than a one on a standard map with standard injectors. A chap I know was running one with a decent map, bigger injectors and a K06 Turbo running 280ish on standard internals.. sounds mental but it's was all fine for a long time!
TANDEM boii Different car altogether once forged. The engine is very efficient and revs to almost 9k. do away with the cast pistons and you can pretty much go as big as you like
just bought a lime green corsa e vxr with performance pack :D was never a fan of vauxhall and hated the stigma around them but you know what. i love it and who cares. you only live once :D

My previous car was actually an Arden blue 12 plate Corsa VXR ( A16LER ) absolutely loved it , cracking little cars , mine was very well looked after , the pops bangs and whooshes and it would spit flames lol, I’ve heard all the horror story’s Piston no 4 ect etc , but mine was actually mechanical reliable, but watch for rear shocks and rear wheel bearings going on them ,these are only simple things ,,,, definitely a recommended wee car ,I had such good fun in mine ,but traded her in for a nice big vRS , I needed the room ,for my two dogs etc etc 😎👍
Most people hating haven’t ever driven one. I test drove one when I was looking to sell my old Leon Cupra R and I’m not being funny but it’s a lot more fun than you’d think.. forget the corsa stigma it was so much more fun than the Cupra I had, the exhaust pops just brought out my inner kid haha
I buy and assess around a hundred cars a month, the only cars i see with 1980s faults (not caused by lack of maintenance) and headgaskets blown are vauxhalls, nearly all have eml lights on, smoke big ends, gearbox faults etc etc, good value for money but, like Peugeots, needs binning at 40k.
I owned a Corsa VXR back in 2010. I modded it slightly - Remus exhaust, centre pipe delete, superchips bluefin stage 2 via Thorney motorsport. The issues I had were - seat clip broke preventing access to back. heaters only worked on number 4 setting. New rear wheel bearings. air con pipe snapped. Suspension mount broke on front passenger side. sold the car on 30k. until recently I owned a 2014 Fiesta ST2 - much more capable car. build quality better and cornered like a housefly. I now own a BMW M135i - totally different kettle of fish.

love Corsa's got a facelift 1.3ctdi LE as my daily and I managed to get a written off 'burg that I put the front end of a GTC vxr in, pushing 350hp and close to 4 secs 0-60 I'm not far from pompey so if you're still down south I could let you take it for a spin
Decent cars to be honest with you. My mate had one a while ago, I was suprised a Corsa could reach 200bhp, especially on a 1.6 litre. Put my 1.8T golf to shame 😂 But ofcourse it's still a Corsa, and I would much rather own my golf 😎
i owned one of these. great for a fun back road car but seriously unreliably. My gearbox went at 23,000 miles paint was bubbling, interior fans barely worked and air-con pipe blew off. but i have to say out of all the cars I've owned this was my favourite due to the near death experience of trying to keep it on the road while going round corners. But only thing i disagree with was the fuel economy, i could barely get 220 miles out of a full tank.
I just bought a 09 vxr with full service history and it’s on 49000 miles. Within a week it had seals and bearings needed in gearbox and 5th and 6th gear hub assembly. And then the concentric slave cylinder. Absolute nightmare

Surprised people hate on the VXR range, both Corsa and Astra VXR’s surprised me when driving them. Build quality is decent, power especially in the Astra is crazy and leaves competitors way behind. Obviously like any car if they have been modified and ragged reliability will be questionable. Shame they get a bad rep, lovely cars.

I have a 205bhp Clubsport VXR (facelift) comes standard with a LSD bilstein suspension and remus exaust from standard and also big 4pot brembos all factory... be interesting to see you drive one of them see how you feel about the difference
Currently saving to get an Arden Blue one in March18. They get a lot of hate but look better than all the competition, Fiesta ST’s are also newer remember
I’m 19 and own an Arden blue 2009 corsa vxr. Really enjoy owning the car. It’s really well looked after and haven’t had any issues with it. I’m not the typical corsa vxr owner it seems. I’ve got warranty on it just in case though.

Decent cars. Used to own one from new back in 2008. A few years later the head gasket blew. Whole engine had to be replaced. Had the VXL inspectors reviewing the car and all sorts.... Cut a long story short. They replaced the engine for me. So thumbs up to VXL for that. Cause of the issue.... Leaky Radiator. Anyway. Fun car back in my early 20s!
Can i just say not been a good day , yesterday i went to go pick up my 09 plate vxr which i payed a little more than usual as in Cornwall car prices are higher i dont mind as its local. went to turn it on and it had the a misfire ! a day into buying so its back to the garage this morning thank god its under warranty but still ! . i have not even had the chance to drive it to give my proper opinion i drove in like 2 and a bit miles carefully . will keep you guys posted i am not saying its bad it can happen or it could be simple but if i was anyone on here buying one i am thinking of doing a honest mans review of one on TH-cam with things you can do and dont do's .
I’ve got a 2007 Fiesta Mk6 ST and some random kid with a green VXR Corsa yelled at me saying my Ford was shit, he looked about 17 lol. These are very good little cars but some of the drivers are arseholes from my experience. No hate to the good VXR owners here. Nice review Jamie :D
Terrible haha I had a 2007 fiesta st mk6 they were incredible almost like a go karts, then got a green corsa vxr! Both brilliant cars but never one fault with my mk6 as for the vxr had the engine forged new turbo new everything due to faults
+Dom Brown I’ve owned my Fiesta since I was 19 and the only thing I’ve had to get repaired was a rear wheel bearing. Anything else was upgrades or refurbishment work. Solid little cars when they’re looked after.

Lol at people who love to hate on VXRs. I owned a VXRacing Corsa for about 12 months and drove the shit out of it. I've owned 2 106 GTi's and a Clio 172 Cup I can safely say the VXR handled just as well and is a properly fun hot-hatch to own. You obviously don't get the same 'raw' feeling as the 106 or Clio but I still enjoyed it hugely. Being the Racing model it also had stunning heated leather Recaros which were just godly on cold winter mornings. Plus it running a Remus Decat, best sounding car I've owned, so much fun.
lovely car, i hate it when people mod the hell out of cars with forging and remapping it etc just leave it alone ! it just causes problems and ruins the genuineness of the car, it lowers the status of it when you go too far with mods.
The best thing about Corsa VXRs is that when the 19 year old dick heads understeer them into a tree, you can buy the Recaros from them cheap in a SPARES/REPAIR Advert...

All worth it & this car did not disappoint me at all. The sound, the power, the drive, all something you have to experience yourself to really appreciate it. Besides all the faults this car may or may not have, if you look after your car, it will look after you. Big fan of these cars, just got one a couple of months back and I don't regret it. I see a lot of hate yes they are not perfect, but what car is and it depends how you drive it if you drive it constantly like an idiot then like most cars it won't last. :)
itzzaster I us to have an Mini Cooper r50 stock 115hp 150nm, had it mapped to like 135hp and 170nm, stock 0-60 was about 8.5sec, when it was mapped I raced a ST and I beat it. They're not that fast in a straight an ST but lovely cars for a B road!

Carl Broughton there OK cars. Z16leh engine is alright. If you decide to get I mapped. Get rabbid to do it. Or a reputable mapper. These are known for blowing up or 4th piston failure. Other than that. Find a well mantained one. Keep it survived regular. And always run it on shell optimax or 110 octane. They run a lot better with higher octane fuel. Handling wise not much needs to be done. Set of springs. Whiteline anti roll bar and a LSD and there like a good kart lol. Avoid the ignition cut. Ticking time bomb. Decent miltek exhaust. Panel filter. Jobs a good un. If you ever need to renew the turbo. Use a ko3 turbo. Avoid dump valves. Sound cool but In time the z16leh isn't fond of it. So just keep the recirculation valve on.
Ep3 type r is a 2.0 engine,, corsa only 1.6 ...but yea type r would be 10 times more reliable,,and you don’t have to worry about blowing the turbo ,,and it does look like a women’s hairdresser car a little ..

my mother had a mapped vxr ''neverbin'' in white. I drove it and was annoyed at how hard the seats where, how bad the driving position was, how cheap it felt and by how the fact any one including her can call it a good handling car? there firkin scrap, period!
Take care of them like any other car and they will be fine. Had my vxr 3 years now, stage 1, gearbox and pistons fine. Just need to upgrade the injectors when you map it. Awesome car, love it.

Regardless if the maintaince it had, piston will give up in the end. The block is just known to be a shame for GM. Also that horrible m32 box, always goes wrong. Throwing all that money to fix it will actually be better off buying a better car in its category. But to all the people saying this is better than a 1.8T VAG engine...Simply, NO WAY. 1.8t are known reliable and endless tuning possibilities.

The block are actually very strong and good, its the pistons and rods and once you forge them these will take 400bhp without any drama, that being said its too much for a FWD without sticky tyres and aero which is why most idiots can't drive and need a lot of power to cover up their lack of skills but a dated 1.8T 20V, they're shit! Unless they have a proper K04 such as an 064 they produce poor figures, struggle to hold boost, vacuum pipes fail and unless its an LCR they look dog shit I.E. Golf Mk4, A3/S3 8L, Octavia they're all so dated and wank! Mate you haven't a clue about 1.8Ts and trust me I do I work for one of the biggest VAG tuners in the UK, they're shit.

envy you25 I'm not slating it, I'd just rather have a Mini. Having had experience with both the Mini is far superior, hence why I own a 2006 JCW, my dad owns a 2017 JCW and my mom a 2007 Cooper S. They look better, they perform better, handle better, sound better and are just more upmarket, after knowing several people who have owned Corsa VXR's, many have swapped them for a Fiesta ST or a Mini, for good reason. None of our Mini's are financed, also look at the residuals of the Corsa VXR, they lose so much value.

I have a 205bhp Clubsport VXR (facelift) comes standard with a LSD bilstein suspension and remus exaust from standard and also big 4pot brembos all factory... be interesting to see you drive one of them see how you feel about the difference

I’m 19 and own an Arden blue 2009 corsa vxr. Really enjoy owning the car. It’s really well looked after and haven’t had any issues with it. I’m not the typical corsa vxr owner it seems. I’ve got warranty on it just in case though.

I have a stage 1 2009 plate corsa vxr putting out 230bhp well (229.7bhp) and its one of the most fun cars i have had,fingers crossed my piston 4 stays intact😂
Decent cars. Used to own one from new back in 2008. A few years later the head gasket blew. Whole engine had to be replaced. Had the VXL inspectors reviewing the car and all sorts.... Cut a long story short. They replaced the engine for me. So thumbs up to VXL for that.
Cause of the issue.... Leaky Radiator.
Anyway. Fun car back in my early 20s!

Can i just say not been a good day , yesterday i went to go pick up my 09 plate vxr which i payed a little more than usual as in Cornwall car prices are higher i dont mind as its local. went to turn it on and it had the a misfire ! a day into buying so its back to the garage this morning thank god its under warranty but still ! .
i have not even had the chance to drive it to give my proper opinion i drove in like 2 and a bit miles carefully . will keep you guys posted i am not saying its bad it can happen or it could be simple but if i was anyone on here buying one i am thinking of doing a honest mans review of one on TH-cam with things you can do and dont do's .
I’ve got a 2007 Fiesta Mk6 ST and some random kid with a green VXR Corsa yelled at me saying my Ford was shit, he looked about 17 lol. These are very good little cars but some of the drivers are arseholes from my experience. No hate to the good VXR owners here. Nice review Jamie :D

Terrible haha I had a 2007 fiesta st mk6 they were incredible almost like a go karts, then got a green corsa vxr! Both brilliant cars but never one fault with my mk6 as for the vxr had the engine forged new turbo new everything due to faults
+Dom Brown I’ve owned my Fiesta since I was 19 and the only thing I’ve had to get repaired was a rear wheel bearing. Anything else was upgrades or refurbishment work. Solid little cars when they’re looked after.
+JOE 92 Yeah I think they look pretty good in my opinion and the hate they get is pretty unfair. I learnt to drive in one after all. I’m a Ford guy completely but I respect other makes and have experience with most.

Lol at people who love to hate on VXRs. I owned a VXRacing Corsa for about 12 months and drove the shit out of it.
I've owned 2 106 GTi's and a Clio 172 Cup I can safely say the VXR handled just as well and is a properly fun hot-hatch to own. You obviously don't get the same 'raw' feeling as the 106 or Clio but I still enjoyed it hugely.
Being the Racing model it also had stunning heated leather Recaros which were just godly on cold winter mornings. Plus it running a Remus Decat, best sounding car I've owned, so much fun.
Just to add, I think the Corsa VXR has the meanest looking rear-end out of any hot-hatch on the road these days.
lovely car, i hate it when people mod the hell out of cars with forging and remapping it etc just leave it alone ! it just causes problems and ruins the genuineness of the car, it lowers the status of it when you go too far with mods.
The best thing about Corsa VXRs is that when the 19 year old dick heads understeer them into a tree, you can buy the Recaros from them cheap in a SPARES/REPAIR Advert...

Besides all the generic jokes about this car & wet wipes getting there fat ass ego out. This car is brilliant, I’ve owned one for almost 1 year now & I regret nothing, I’m a car enthusiast, bought one when I was 19 years old & worked my ass off to buy & maintain it. All worth it & this car did not disappoint me at all. The sound, the power, the drive, all something you have to experience yourself to really appreciate it. Besides all the faults this car may or may not have, if you look after your car, it will look after you.
And if you’re thinking of commenting “Chavy” “the ST’s are better” “Bye piston 4” then don’t waste your time. I could not give a flying fuck. :)

You've only owned it for less than a year, so realistically you're not going to have a huge amount of long term experience. No offence meant, but you youngsters do tend to have less real life experience than a lot of people.

This corsa vxr has an aftermarket exhaust fitted buddy, they do not pop and bang without having an aftermarket exhaust system installed

@@fatboy3677 I seen you’re comment so I had to help you out, ohh nice just beware they need forged but it’s best to do a compression test if it’s not forged, to achieve poo and bang you’ll need to have an aftermarket exhaust with a decat and get pop and bang map installed

Porkie Chops aren’t they 200bhp on overboost and they’re quite light too so would be very even probably
itzzaster I us to have an Mini Cooper r50 stock 115hp 150nm, had it mapped to like 135hp and 170nm, stock 0-60 was about 8.5sec, when it was mapped I raced a ST and I beat it. They're not that fast in a straight an ST but lovely cars for a B road!

Carl Broughton there OK cars. Z16leh engine is alright. If you decide to get I mapped. Get rabbid to do it. Or a reputable mapper. These are known for blowing up or 4th piston failure. Other than that. Find a well mantained one. Keep it survived regular. And always run it on shell optimax or 110 octane. They run a lot better with higher octane fuel. Handling wise not much needs to be done. Set of springs. Whiteline anti roll bar and a LSD and there like a good kart lol. Avoid the ignition cut. Ticking time bomb. Decent miltek exhaust. Panel filter. Jobs a good un. If you ever need to renew the turbo. Use a ko3 turbo. Avoid dump valves. Sound cool but In time the z16leh isn't fond of it. So just keep the recirculation valve on.
Would rather own an ep3, much cheaper more reliable etc etc the corsa is just shitty.

As much as I hate stigma... I have to say the car really does speak for itself when it comes to faults and horror stories. As far as better cars are concerned it’s your preference but I wouldn’t invest money into another Vauxhall so long as I live. Everything about them is cheap. And it seems like everyone who owns them seem to defend the flaws to death until they get into another car... good review but terrible car.

Take care of them like any other car and they will be fine. Had my vxr 3 years now, stage 1, gearbox and pistons fine. Just need to upgrade the injectors when you map it. Awesome car, love it.

the Mk6 fiesta ST that the ford fuck boys should be relating to the Corsa vxr instead of the new 2013+ shape fiesta was a 2.0l naturally aspirated pushing 150 hp. It was also very front end heavy. both the Corsa and fiesta of the same era are good cars but people need to stop relating to an almost 10 year old car to a 4 year old one.

Regardless if the maintaince it had, piston will give up in the end. The block is just known to be a shame for GM. Also that horrible m32 box, always goes wrong. Throwing all that money to fix it will actually be better off buying a better car in its category. But to all the people saying this is better than a 1.8T VAG engine...Simply, NO WAY. 1.8t are known reliable and endless tuning possibilities.

The block are actually very strong and good, its the pistons and rods and once you forge them these will take 400bhp without any drama, that being said its too much for a FWD without sticky tyres and aero which is why most idiots can't drive and need a lot of power to cover up their lack of skills but a dated 1.8T 20V, they're shit! Unless they have a proper K04 such as an 064 they produce poor figures, struggle to hold boost, vacuum pipes fail and unless its an LCR they look dog shit I.E. Golf Mk4, A3/S3 8L, Octavia they're all so dated and wank! Mate you haven't a clue about 1.8Ts and trust me I do I work for one of the biggest VAG tuners in the UK, they're shit.

envy you25 I'm not slating it, I'd just rather have a Mini. Having had experience with both the Mini is far superior, hence why I own a 2006 JCW, my dad owns a 2017 JCW and my mom a 2007 Cooper S. They look better, they perform better, handle better, sound better and are just more upmarket, after knowing several people who have owned Corsa VXR's, many have swapped them for a Fiesta ST or a Mini, for good reason. None of our Mini's are financed, also look at the residuals of the Corsa VXR, they lose so much value.
