    Thanks Jakob. I bought EG Pulse shortly after it was dropped. Haven't used it much but now, I will. I don't mind the ads, and when the subscription channels pop up that I like, I always click on the ads. So if you get ad revenue you know its most likely from Canada 😃. Plus I always give all your stuff a Like. Sounds like your doing okay there in Sweden. Its all good.

      Thank you for the support Jim! Yeah I’m good. The situation hasn’t really changed for me since “social distancing” is just everyday life for me and has been for ages. I’m new to iOS music making and one thing I seen in this video that I’m very curious about is how you have multiple iPads handling different tasks? Like if I wanted my iPad Pro to display AUM or a synth and a second iPad to display a Fabfilter plugin I have in the mixer, how do I accomplish this? Big Thanks for the awesome video-EG Pulse is one of my favorite apps and now I know how to use the multi-out feature!

    • @VictorSteiner
      @VictorSteiner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think Jakob is only routing the audio out of one iPad into the input of the other to use the Oscilloscope app ... no fancy multi-window-over-devices action here.

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @twistedJOKER It’s like @VictorSteiner says, it’s nothing fancy. I’m just using the other iPad(iPads) to monitor audio signals with an audio interface.
      .
      However when I do multiple iPad setups for jams, I use Ableton Link to sync them all up, and then I use smaller sound interfaces for getting audio out of the smaller iPads, and one large interface to get all the audio into the big iPad. I’ll look into it, but I’m not sure there is a way to use the iPads like you where wondering about. It’s an interesting concept though. 👍🏼

    • @q.6467
      @q.6467 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jakob Haq That’s a pretty interesting setup, I might have to try that out. It’s a bummer that there’s no way to do the multi-window thing though. I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching the web to see if there’s a way and haven’t found anything yet. Thank you both very much for your responses, I greatly appreciate it!

    Jacob, as ever, thank you for another great video. What I am trying to figure out is if there is an app (like Soundflower) that would allow you to stream multiple audio channels through usb to another device (like a laptop). Because at the moment my biggest frustration is not being able to stream my multiple stems in AUM into for example Ableton on my laptop.🤷🏽

    Interesting quirk I found in EG Pulse is that 1st step is delayed 1/128 of beat. Not a big issue, it's barely audible. Just need to be aware when using with other apps or samples.
    Other bugs are:
    1. Swing is not working on iPad sometimes. App is showing 100% Swing, but playing straight notes. And vise versa, sometimes Swing is on (audibly) but showing 0% swing. It looks like some GUI bug.
    2. Export not working. You just get bunch of empty 0kb files.
    Do you also experience this kind of bugs?

    Hey Jakob. Awesome great vid as always. So packed full of useful information. And by the way i lost my shit with the Timmy Cook jingle :-D
    A quick question if I may?
    I'm trying to decide between this and Digistix. I looked the look of both, but I note that Digistix has HIpass and LOWpass filter effects also in its offering (altho I don't know if they can be applied to individual pads) -that's also something I'm trying to find out.
    - do you know if EGPulse has hi/low pass options in it? And, cab they be applied to individual pads?

    Trying to commit to 1 drum machine is tough. 3 years ago EG Pulse looked pretty good, but now you seem to recommend Hamerhead. Seems EG had 16 lanes and a strong sequencer, while Hammerhead has both sample player and drum synth. I keep bouncing around Playbeat, Patterning, DrumComputer and others and it’s a mess. I’d like to have my kits in one place and my patterns in one place. Any advice?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on what you need the most. It’s hard to give advice without knowing that. One thing is for sure. If it’s efficiency you’re after then you should decide to use just one app. Like you say, jumping around is a mess. But all that jumping around does tell you something. There’s something you’re looking for that you probably haven’t found yet. When this happens to me I always make a list of the stuff I’m happy with in an app. Features I need or use a lot for instance. Then I list stuff I’m not happy with. The way stuff works or lack of features. I then do this with several apps that I’ve used and like. After a while you start seeing what it is you’re actually after. When I get to tha point I have a look at all apps and I’ll choose the one that gets me the closest basically.

    Hey Jacob, I got Luma Fusion and I think you said you cut all your videos with it. What was the tutorial that helped you most to get started with it?
    Greetings from Germany

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aw, you’re going to get so disappointed. I never watched any tutorials, I just started working with it to get to learn about its features. Also I have been working with video editors (Adobe Premiere) for a long time so I have some previous experience with the topic.
      .
      I do have some tutorials that I made but their a bit dated now because the app has changed a bit in looks over the years. In any case you’ll be able to get some ideas from those videos. Here’s the playlist >>> th-cam.com/play/PLvNQD1EpaiNPd_JTX7oNHrZtRHjoRWkow.html
      .
      There’s even a video In there where I show how I did my shaky haQ attaQ Logo effect.
      There are a lot of other channels that do make LumaFusion tutorials and so if you search TH-cam you’ll find plenty good ones.

    Most NLEs like Fcpx also have auto sync based on waveform. As long as the video source has low level quality audio you can autosync audio and video, then turn off the video audiolevels. Also works when syncing up multiple sources in one go👌🏻

    Hey Brother Jakob! Hope you are well. Question - I am a BIG BIG fan of Koala - I now use it almost more than I use Ableton live - which I have been using since V4! That being said - I have been eyeing EG Pulse for a while - and now that the price has dropped - Im considering it - but is there anything "Special" about it at this point. I have Beatmaker 3 - which I never really use anymore - I working Cubasis in - so that perhaps when my 2015 iMac 21 monster finally bites the dirt - Ill just stay in iOS land and save money in the long run. Sorry - Im a tangential cat (HARDCORE ADHD) -
    So is there anything special about it at this point - or will it just be another app to distract myself with??

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I am well thank you for asking. Sounds like you have chosen Cubasis as you main workflow. If you feel like you don’t work with MPC-like interfaces, then I’d say that EG pulse would probably be a distraction purchase, since that one requires that type of workflow. If you’re only looking for a sample player to use as an AUv3 inside Cubasis, then you’re set with Koala sampler.
      .
      I’ve personally started using Sitala sample player for that type stuff. It’s not as feature packed as Koala sampler, it’s don’t even a sampler, just a player. But Sitala offers something else. Check out my video on that if you’re curious: th-cam.com/video/d1t1vHCap2c/w-d-xo.html

    There was a "Commercial break" about 5:20.... but it did not play! Instead, your video just continued after the screen. What's up? BTW, I love that you show this screen!!!

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I stopped showing it in my videos at some point because people thought I was doing it as a joke because no commercials would play. We content creators can only tell TH-cam where to play adds. We can’t tell them to actually play adds. Adds are reliant on a bunch of statistics and user data including region, view history etc. Also the time of year matters too. So sometimes adds do not play. During summer you get the least amount of adds which means viewers are just staring at this 4 second screen whenever it appears. So in the end, I have no idea why you didn’t see any adds. 😅

    • @JakobHaq

      Correct, however Elastic drums does not support AUv3. It does the multi-out through Inter App Audio (IAA). So with elastic drums, one can only load one instance at a time, while AUv3 allows for multiple instances.

    The clapping technique is great, however it won’t necessarily work if the different devices being used are on different clock frequencies. I had this issue using a PreSonus mixer and an iPhone for mixing audio with video and merging the audio tracks for both. It was a major pain as there would be drift that required me to go through the whole timeline and realign every few minutes. This is less of an issue with shorter clips for sure, so if people don’t find an issue they may simply have not exceeded a length that really shows the issue. In my case my files were up to 4 hours long, so major issue and time consuming as hell!
    However, if your devices are all from the same manufacturer, it’s a lot more likely the clocks will properly align. Now i record audio and video through an iPhone and an iPad, so both use a standard Apple clock. Then as long as you get the transients aligned in one place, it aligns over the whole file. In more advanced audio applications this is why people use a master clock. It totally avoids drift.

      I do all my audio syncing in Auria first, trim to the beginning of the same in a video clip (also in Auria) and then export the audio and bring both into LumaFusion and all is synced!

      Yeah I dig what you’re saying. It can be such a hassle as a beginner with these things. To be honest I’ve always synced my stuff by eyes and ears. I’ve had so many issues with this in the past so relying on my eyes and ears became a workflow thing over time and now I’m just used to it.

      That's why i would tend to tell people to stick with everything on the same platform concerning where you do the recording. This being all iPad stuff the final recording clock is on the device. Eyes and ears is the final resort for sure! For a single project keeping with the same company's interface is good as well. Keep it from getting too complicated!
      It might even be why they don't like more than one interface connected at the same time. Even if they can override the clock in most cases it might cause weird syncing issues. Latency is bad enough without adding another variable!

    When I add multiple files(velocities) per pad it only plays the last sample?? I can’t figure out how to get it velocity sensitive

    I was just thinking... Wouldn't it be cool if a sampler app, could take your library of samples Inn your connection... And press 1 button... And it picks random samples from your collection and assigns them to the pads!
    Wouldn't that be so cool, completely letting you be truly experimental.
    A mix is playing, and you're just jabbing away at random samples over the mix. Might take help you discover something new that you didn't think could work?

      Yes. To clarify, the pads in EG Pulse reads MIDI Note Data and the Launchpad can definitely talk that! 👍🏼

      They feel very different from one another. I’d say that koala has a quicker workflow and it’s also been updated with way more features and quality of life improvements.

    Elastic Drums? It is not Multi Output?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elastic Drum does not support AUv3. Yes it has multi output but it’s through the Inter App Audio protocol.

    Hey I bought the app at your recommendation! I love the layout, but I can’t figure out how to save my patterns. I hit the save icon, and I went to the same song I was editing on, and clicking on that just resulted in it reverting back to the default pattern. I want to love this app but if I can’t save my patterns then I don’t know what to do with it.

    Nice but not yet the money worth. Tempo knob way too sensitive and setting the attack, decay and other parameters of samples while hitting the test button doesn’t change the sound . You always have to let the finger of the screen for sound update. This sucks and is an no go for sound design.
