Millers Crossing is one of the most underrated films of its day. Set design, story, cast all outstanding. Locations were amazing, the musical score outstanding. I saw it in a theater when it came out, and I’ve watched it every year since, sometimes multiple times a year. Shenandoah Club forever. Good job Cohen Bro’s, you hit the mark like nobody else.

I love this film and this theme. It's such a perfect track for a surprisingly joyful gangster movie. Not too dark, full of laughs, full of drama, full of smart lines and scenes, and full of hats. The Coen Brothers are a fantastic movie creators, and I have never come across a movie of theirs I didn't like.

This is an Irish tune called Limerick's Lamentation. It dates from the siege and fall of the city of Limerick in Ireland to the English forces of Ginkel in 1691, at the end of the Williamite Wars.

And how about the movie, huh?
I've watched it at least a dozen times, and have read comments that think it's all about Tom losing his hat.
I think it's more about him losing Verna, knowing that perhaps the two of them Do deserve each other, and that now that she'll be married that it wouldn't be right for them to carry on with their relationship.
You can always get another hat. But you can't replace a love.
Sounds a little like another Coen Bros. quote-
"Writers come and go. But we'll always need Indians."
      Cheers.

I'd say a dozen viewings. But I think it's more likely closer to probably three times that number if individual viewing of scenes are counted for.
      The Coen Bros do the best work as related to ones personal circumstance. I just viewed "Barton Fink" for about the 30th time and feel like getting in touch with a Australian gal I know and haven't spoken to for some time, all because she reminds me in some remotely distinct way of Audrey Taylor. {Judy Davis}
      She's probably just as crazy.

Yes! Gabriel Byrne recommended this to Joel Coen who passed the concept on to Burwell. Great score!

The composer of this song Paddy Moloney from the Chieftains only died this week .. An absolute hero and iconic Irish figure may he rest in peace

He didn’t compose it. It’s from the 17th century. Most likely composed by one or the harper Connellons, a pair of brothers from Sligo.

This beautiful piece of music is called Limerick's Lament, and is centuries old. Notice how it is very similar to the music in "The Titanic ", both come from the same source.

A track by the band called the "Chieftains " is really good, and if you like this music you might like the "Coolin", sometimes played on the "Uileann pipes ".

One of the best, if not the best, gangster movies of all time. I saw the movie a year or so after it came out and I hadn't heard of it before that and it was just these surprise movies, that blows your mind without warning.
And soundtrack is great too, this gentle Irish-sounding feel fits perfectly to this movie.

Correction; "There are very few moments in a man's existence when he experiences so much ludicrous distress, or meets with so little charitable commiseration, as when he is in pursuit of his own hat." Charles Dickens THE PICKWICK PAPERS (Cohen; "nothing more foolish than a man chasing after his own hat")
