Such great insights, I’ve been a developer for nearly 10 years and I can tell you a good product manager is worth their weight in gold… a bad one can leave you in a world of pain 😂

    Thanks for talking through this!
My perspective is that the gradient of skills that are necessary to build a good product was previously boxed into 3 simplified boxes of Product, Engineering, and Design. Even if one of those "titles" disappear, the responsibilities would still be necessary to build a product. (just because you erase the box line doesn't mean the skills are no longer necessary)
Find the core responsibilities/skills that you are good at and enjoy doing and find whatever title aligns with those skills.
    Cheers

thank you for posting this bc I just got into med school after pivoting into tech and I like product so much but I also love medicine so I’m in a career crisis and this helped clear some of it up for me. THANK YOU!

so relatable... a new grad looking to pivot in an entry-level PM role with no full-time work experience is insanely difficult in 2024 :) but I am trying to be more flexible by considering to be a data / business analyst first

12 years of experience with a masters degree, half of my experience is in cybersecurity
cant get a PM job at literally any company, even when I try to drop down from director into Sr PM
dozens of interviews, 6 final rounds, no or ambiguous feedback and they dont actually end up hiring someone for the role... no one is actually hiring, they promote some poor Sr Pm with 4 years of experience into a director and tell them they have 3 products instead of one now, pat them on the back and tell them good luck
thats the only real explanation i can think of as to why i have NEVER been to a final round interview and didnt get an offer.... and now i have have 6 in the last 4 months and not a single offer

While I haven’t actively looked or applied anywhere myself in a long time, I am hearing this everywhere. It is certainly an extremely tough time right now so if you can built alternative skill sets while you keep looking, hopefully it may help in the long term.
Exactly why I wanted to make this video because the reliance we have on companies and employers is too great - and in 2024, we are really seeing that power play for those who don’t have an alternative income stream or skill set.
      Wishing you all the best

Can you recommend a good certification course for product management please?

    • @TheProductPup
      @TheProductPup  หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Best course is practical experience...
      1. Pick a problem
      2. Research it
      3. Design a solution
      4. Validate it with people
      5. Use Figma / AI to design it
      6. Use AI/ No-code tools to build an MVP
      7. Try to sell it
There is your Product Management certification :)

Have you done this exercise by yourself? or probably you can share your experience in one of the videos to give walkthrough on how its done to help aspiring PMs. Once again really appreciate the cool videos that you are making to share your knowledge on Product Management. Thank You!
