Never leave a loved one on a bad note. Don't say things you might regret later. You never know whether you'll ever get the chance to make amends. I've given years of my life to achieve this. Not nearly there yet. Tell people you love that you love them. Love is the most important thing.
@@onegreenenvy If they wait too long then it'll be too late. Either the replacement heart will die, or the recipient will die and be beyond help. In this kind of situation, every second counts.
When my friend passed from kidney failure she wasn’t an organ donor either but they still asked her family if they could have her eyes. Her family said No but they weren’t pressured about it at all. They do ask the family even if they aren’t on the donor list but no one has a right to pressure the family.
We have opt OUT organ donation now in the UK. Signing up for organ donation doesn't tend to be on people radars or urgent admin list of things to do or just don't even want to think about their own mortality. If you would really prefer to have your organs burnt up or eaten by maggots after death, rather than saving several people's lives, you still have the right to that.
Here in the UK organ donation law changed, all adults in England are now considered to have agreed to be an organ donor when they die, unless registered as not to donate is on medical records, or in the one of the excluded groups, family consent is not sort anymore😊
I saw a video of a mom who allowed her sons heart to go to another young man who needed a new heart. When she was getting remarried that young man was at her wedding and allowed her to listen to her sons heart. They're still friends to this day. Look up Becky Turney wedding day.
This episode kind of brings to life that you need to have those conversations with your family or next to Ken if you want to be an organ donor or not to be and also have that written down on your license nowadays is actually on your license just in case you don’t wanna have that burden on your family I think that’s the first place that nurses should actually check your license and just have a checked on your paperwork that you in Oregon donor for just in case that way you don’t have to always ask the family that important question because it should be already answered by the person themselves if they would like to donate you just have to show them the license that you already thought about it and you already consented to the donation. If all hope is lost you’re only up. They’re only going off of your license for consent and I do believe when you go to the DMV and check it off the representative at the Devon sees it checked off for a donation. I think they may also has to warranty person that would actually happen at the hospital if the worst comes to worse and advise them to tell their wives or husband and children. You will actually check off as organ donation, if you’re unable to speak for yourself, and that once the doctor has spoken and said you’re not going to survive, then a representative of the hospital comes to the family and speaks to them that you’ve already consented to Oregon nation and that they don’t really need the wife or husband to sign off on anything because you’ve already signed off on it sometimes the court system in laws can make the choice difficult and more than it needs to be when the person you need to really ask is the person that’s donating and if they already can send it to the donation prior where they indicated that they understood this box off that they will be donating. I think that’s really all you need, and not the beliefs of your wife or your husband, but you as the donor is the number one saying some people like to complicated by putting their believes in their feelings and when that’s not helping you get over your loved ones passing at all your loved one has spoken that they are all right with the donation you just at the end of the day, honored wishes of your loved one that they wanted to donate and that they didn’t want to leave this burden on you at the end which is a loving thing when you are in your right mind that you go ahead and make the important decision for yourself so there is no at the end you know wondering what your wishes are when you’ve already made them and they just need to be carried out I think like I said earlier, thank you at the DMV. I wish to go ahead and give you another piece of paper that is usually from the nation place go ahead and just sign it that way it can be taken care of just like with the military, you know with end of life stuff when I go to war, they pre-sign a lot of paperwork so that their loved ones don’t always have to, do everything at the time of you know at the time of death when they are grieving so they don’t have to burden of making that decision and if you don’t want to be a donor, there’s a reason you’re not when I check your card. It might be a reason you might not believe in it, which is fine then just leave it blank and they would put on your card. I’ve already reviewed and I declined and I’m I wish they would put that on under organ donation. Client declined that means they’ve already been aware of it and they just declined it unnecessarily if they would like to donate because you were already have to answer.
Sometimes people won't register because they don't/can't think it will ever happen. This world has many, many sick people who need organs and not enough to give.
If I were to donate my organs, it would need to be from a place of altruism or voluntary action. Pressure from doctors especially from a place of severe vulnerability like this is an immediate and spiteful "no" from me. "What if the situation were reversed?" Honestly, im not so sure id be so quick to accept a transplant. All those medicines, doctors appointments, always vulnerable to disease, a lot of pain and suffering.
I didn't expect this clip to make me so uncomfortable. In a time where consent is so important, it bothers me that they would not only go against the wishes of another human being, but also come to the grieving wife at her most emotionally vulnerable moment. This did not feel ethical. I understand the issues with our current nation wide organ shortage and how transplants save lives. But where is the line drawn on moral decency?
It’s because the organs are only good for so long and usually the decision is made before the patient dies. Morally it is more important to save other lives than spend time comforting family members, as terrible as it sounds. Consent is important but imo saving lives is more important. Maybe I’m too much like Dr house lol
Being unregistered doesn’t mean the donor is against donating their organs - it just means they aren’t registered. Next-of-kin usually gets final say regardless of registration status anyway. I don’t think the doctors were unreasonably pushy or manipulative in this clip. Time was of the essence. It wasn’t ideal but I don’t think they had any other choice.
its usually not done so callously. theres a separate organization in charge of organ donation that talks to the family, they're trained to be very sensitive and empathetic about it
Looks like they allowed The hospital allowed the husband to die while taking care of the wife Also the black Doctor is very predatory and he likes others to do his jaw for him
Like they said (2:55) they couldn't do anything surgical for him, just hope that medication would be able to bring down the pressure from the bleeding. Dr Latham is the head of cardiothoracic surgery, and also autistic. Depending on where this episode is in regards to his character development, he may have understood that his blunt manner and problems with social cues would not be appropriate for dealing with a grieving widow, thus asking Manning and Halstead to ask about organ donation instead.
That was very cold to pressure this woman about donating her husbands organs then leaving her all alone. Organ transplantation is all about the money. The pay out from the insurance companies is what makes these hospitals and doctors wealthy. This is what they really care about.
Yeah exactly I didn't like how they quickly just did this to her. If it were my husband I would tell them I need time to process this. At least give someone time. It ain't like there aren't any other possible donors in the ER for the transplant
@@runsoncaffeineso what. That shouldn't have been put on the wife shoulders the way they did. First off they told her he was dead and she needed time to process the heartbreaking news and then once she has had tine to grieve then ask her. Just because the other one was possibly dying doesn't mean her husband is the only donor who could do this.
This is bullshit I am not an organ donor for a reason....I hope to god that if something ever happened to me that the doctors would not ask someone else to go against my wishes.
Why? How will they know? It’s not like they’ll care anymore. It’s pretty selfish to have an option to save many lives and just ignore it bc someone who isn’t even here anymore says they don’t want to.
Feeling your loved one’s heart beating inside another person must be a very odd and emotional experience.

Why not give her a moment to say good-bye before the transplant ?
because it's HEART surgery...literally every second counts with such a critical surgery.
Exactly and they probably couldn't risk loosing the other patient as well.
