That story actually got to me tbh 😢, it's a shame our RC hobby is pretty expensive,it was back in the day and still is now even though we're blokes with jobs now. Thanks to the grans, nans, grandads and parent's that noticed our passion and managed to buy us our first RC kit ❤,great video Glenn 👊👍

Hi Glen, I work in the plastics industry and polyethylene is notoriously difficult to paint. Basically it's difficult, but not impossible, to get paint to stick to it. What you can do is flame treat the material (literally with a blowtorch, but gently!) just before painting it. There is plenty of stuff online about this - Google is your friend! Polyethylene itself is a very durable material which probably makes it a great choice for a beginner buggy like this.

The holiday buggy was my first ever rc car. I brought it second hand for £25.00. I remember it costing roughly about £100, money that was way beyond my families budget. I saved up for ages and also purchased a Mardave Apache. This story brings back so many memories. I recently purchased the DT02 kit, which isn't quite the same, but it's near enough to make an old rc fan very happy.... im loving the re re models because now i can purchase the ones that were out of my grasp... happy memories

Thanks for sharing that email Glen, it really resonated with me. Back in the 80s I longed for an RC car of my own, then one morning on my birthday I woke up and went into my parents room to find my dad putting the finishing touches to a holiday buggy! I remember the feeling to this day, so happy. My eyes nearly popped out of my head and my chin nearly hit the floor. I said “what’s that!? Is it for me?!”. In terms of driving it was pretty bad so I moved on to other models over the years but I always hung on to the HB. Last year I finally dug it out of the loft and got it working again after probably more than 30 years. Memories flooding back. Priceless! Now I’ve just nearly finished building a DT-02 HB for my son, hoping to give him those same memories on his birthday morning. ❤

I remember this is the first RC kit I ever saw. My mates older brother got it and let us watch him build it.
We all had RTR things that were slow, brittle and you couldn’t use them in wet conditions.
When we saw it run for the first time it blew our 10yr old minds.
We both, to this day run RC cars.
Great Video mate and awesome story behind your donation.

I've used two of these as project cars. I love them. I do wish they'd given us silver or grey wheels. I put the Nissan titan wheels on mine for a bit. I also wish they had shortened the arms to bring the wheels closer to the chassis. I think those two changes would bring this kit much closer to the heart of the original. I can't wait see what you do with it.

So as I’ve recently found your channel and enjoyed seeing the cars from my youth when I was happier and life seemed a little more simple..
So because of you I’ve decided to get back in to the hobby and have ordered myself the new Tamiya Porsche 911 gt3 992 on the TT02 chassis, I also ordered it with the upgraded ball bearings and all the other bits and bobs I need.
Should be here next week and I’m looking forward to building it and knocking back the years a bit.
I also want the bigwig to build and run but have had no luck trying to find a nib that I can afford.
Cheers and keep up the vids. Thanks for the memories 😊

Hi Glenn great video very enjoyable. I have a NIB re re bought a couple of years ago now and my plan is this will be my first build since re engaging with the hobby.( when I can find some time) . My friend at school had the sand rover but couldn’t afford the radio gear for ages so we used to let it run down the road and chase after it before it crashed into the curb!! I remember this was around 81-82 and both holiday buggy and sand rover kits were £45.. I remember saving for months but ended up buying a mardave stockcar of another friend for £30. Happy times, I’m looking forward to seeing what you do to it. Best wishes and take care

There is also the Nissan Titan on the DT02 platform, picked one up to make my first 2wd Beetle (my first Beetle was on the TT02B).
Found some 3d files and printed off shortened suspension arms to get the tread width correct for a Scorcher, might be worth looking at if you want a more original looking Holliday Buggy.

Hi Glen them memories of the model shops that sold planes, ships, boats , and helicopters that seemed totally amazing at the time and the car RC kits
I was into boats to begin with my dad built Keilcraft kits of boats and I used to play with one in particular in my paddling pool
I still have old movie film and the boat
Then as I learned of Tamiya in my late teens and loved rallying I had to have the Quattro which was my first Tamiya then the Brat
Wandering down memory lane it was great. Just a short tale for you as we all have. Love your Channels Glen and your work 😊

I love the look of the Holiday Buggy, a fantastic looking car! I had a DT02 Sand Viper some time ago, I actually converted a DT03 into the DT02, and I loved it. The DT02 is a great platform, OK it has quite a few limitations, but it was pretty sturdy and was a load of fun. I'm sure if you keyed and primered the body it could be painted no problem. Also, I'm of the age that I remember the RC scene in the early and mid 1980's, what a time!! Can't wait to see what you do with this one!

NIce Kit and touching message. I bought the Sand Viper as a first RC for my youngest son one chistmas. It's a great chassis, especially for an entry level car. My entry level back in the day was a Hornet. Chalk and Cheese really. I bought a DT-02 chassis/kit/group of parts with no body or wheels recently. Funnily enough it was from a Holiday Buggy kit. It's just waiting for electronics and the Sand Viper body set I bought for it.
Just quickly, the Sand Viper I bought for my son (he still has it btw) came with bearings and an esc. Very much a far cry from my Hornet.

Fantastic generous guy Darren! The original Holiday buggy was the first ever tamiya l saw back in must of been 82! My dad was an electrician and a mate of his asked him to repair it as the thing had packed up! I was in amazement of this car and had a little push around with it on our kitchen table thinking wow l would love to get one of these! That was the fuse lit for me! You got me thinking now Glenn about the DT-02 and how many models have been! The ORV has a decent list behind it for sure too! But yeah the DT-02 can now really be called a classic chassis in my opinion!
A modern day classic that's become an actual classic! The DT-03 is following in its footsteps too! Another nice chassis from Tamiya!
Anyway yeah looking forward to your twist because these can look epic with a little work!
Need to narrow the wheel stance to! You can do that!
The body can be painted if sanded and done with primers etc and would probably be ok on the shelf! But being so soft and bendy its tricky to make it stick!
But what a joyful little kit the 2010 Holiday buggy is!
Damn shame the original don't get a rere though! Especially now this DT-02 version has succeeded! Go on tamiya treat us old boys to the real deal warts and all!
Great vid as always my friend...apart from the reading bit lol.
    Cheers James.

Loved hearing about the memories of going into the model shop back then.
I loved going to the model shop when I was younger and just staring at the boxes 😊.
I'm with you about this one, I also turned my noise up at it being on the wrong chassis but now I totally agree with it.
The fact you can't paint the body was something that always annoyed me, shame we can't get another one to paint as we please.
    Great Video Glenn 👍

The Dt02 is a great platform and the HB is a cool looking kit. I have mine done up with CVA shocks and a GT tuned motor and it is a real blast! I also swapped out the drivers head for a Bob Ross head which just makes me laugh when I see it! The body does not like to be painted. There are methods of flame treating it to accept paint better but it is best left as is. They made it out of the soft and flexible plastic to make the body hold up better and not break so easily as it is one of their beginner models.

Glenn the body is paintable, you should be able to find a guide somewhere (in TamiyaClub forum). I think you have to blowtorch the body until the shine goes, then etch then paint. It's like trash can (wheelie bin over here in the UK!) material which makes it bendy, and tough. Ace looking cars though when they are done, just do something with the wheels! Drive nice too, on that flat wide chassis

If a company on banggood made a slow rc with cheap grade plastics that break from small jumps, plastic gears throughout, crosshead screws, sell it for a few hundred it'd be a crap toy grade rip off, tamiya do it and it's amazing. No it's still cheap toy grade crap but an even bigger rip off, tamiya are a massive company that could make these kits out of way better plastics with hex hardware, decent electronics for the same price, still turn a profit and people thank them for the privilege of being robbed by them ffs 🤦. I don't hate tamiya BTW it's just the fact they could be way better quality, you could actually bash a it, they'd still look as beautiful and if you didn't want to bash them they'd still be shelf queen's.
