    I've recently found you. And I'm obsessed.
    Everything that you do resonates with me. Your sober, effortless style. Your coffee routine. Living alone. Somehow seeing you go about your day. Makes me want to do things too.
    Lots of love.

    I love that you shared so much of your time in Japan and it felt like your older vlogs when you were in Manchester/ Leeds. It felt like you had recharged creatively with your trip there. I cannot wait to see your haul as I know you picked some good stuff! I hope you're feeling better and have not been jetlagged coming back.
    Also, wishing you a lovely Christmas!! xxoo

    What really struck me in these vlogs is how peaceful and quiet Japan seems. Even Tokyo seems to have a certain stillness to it - I didn't hear traffice or people shouting (or even talking loudly). Is all of Japan like that or is it just how Lizzy captured it?

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I found it so quiet every where! on the first day I couldn't get over it at all xxx

    • @Mari-Yama
      @Mari-Yama 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and no. People don't really talk to each other when going from point a to b and you will almost never hear someone shouting (unless it's a foreigner), but you do hear songs playing and the traffic noises (minus the honking because Japanese people don't really do that even in high traffic). If you're on an off street or an alley, it's SUPER quiet. It's crazy, because you can be just one or two blocks from the busiest streets in Shibuya, Harajuku, or even Shinjuku, and all of a sudden, it will be completely bare and super quiet.
      It is nice when it's like this, but after living in the US for years and going back to Japan, it makes you feel like you're alone even when thousands of people are around you (if that makes sense), since no one likes to talk to people they don't know. Compared to a place like the US, strangers can talk and have a good conversation with other strangers, and it feels much more friendly and less lonely.

    • @lindagarrido4353

      @@Mari-Yama how refreshing. I live in NYC and despite the fact that I'm a native New Yorker, I still can't stand how much New Yorkers yell. So nerve wrecking! I'm an introvert, so I found the silence of Japan soothing.

    Your initial thought, regarding the traditional dressing in Kyoto, was mine too haha! After my comment my brother (who lived in Japan at the time) told me that they're not Japanese people in their traditional clothing. But you can actually rent the costumes and walk around in them for a day, to take photos and stuff. It's a big thing and is apparently hugely done by Chinese tourists. Fun fact for ya :)

    I have travelled alone as well and as much as I have appreciated designing my own schedule I did miss the company of someone to share it all with..if I saw a beautiful garden or painting. I wonder if vlogging sometimes feels as if you have a companion ..and not so alone. Anywho, thank you so so much for bringing us along. A mini vacation for me ...just so beautifully crafted.

    I'm trying to plan a trip to Japan as well and would love to know roughly how much one would spend. Could you maybe do a blog post or video on that as well? I honestly loved this trilogy of vlogs so much, it made me want to be in Japan even more. And the fact that you went by yourself was amazing as well, it felt like we were there with you as travelling partner haha! Those videos inspired me so much through the screen, I can't wait to actually go there, but this is also testament of how great of a storyteller you are! Hopefully, you'll go to more solo trips and take us along!!!

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thank you for such a lovely comment! I spend about £900 on my flights, and £850 on the hotel (booked very last minute though). You could definitely stay in a hostel for cheaper! being there I spent around £800 on just day to day things, I did get taxis more than I should have and they were very expensive. My meal at the Park Hyatt was £120 so that was an extravagance - the food generally was very affordable so you could cut down this cost a lot. Also the rail pass I bought before hand was £200 - so in total I would say I spent over £2.5k. Not including the things I bought (like the camera) xxx

    • @natatatt
      @natatatt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Japan has a reputation for being quite expensive but it's not so bad. Especially with food,it's quite cheap imo. You do have to lower your expectations for hotels though - the rooms in Tokyo are really tiny for what you'd get in many western countries.

    Loved your vlog Lizzy. We just arrived home to Adelaide, South Australia, after a lovely time in Japan. Our son lives in Tokyo, and his wife, who is Japanese just gave birth to our first grandchild, a little boy named Akira. So we stayed out in Shizuoka which is out near Mt Fuji, to meet our daughter in law's family. Her grandmother is 90 yo. It was a lovely stay, then we went back to Tokyo for our last week. It's a beautiful country, and we plan to visit often now. We stayed in Shinjuku last visit which was in the middle of summer. Oh, not recommended, unless you love melting in high humidity. We visited Osaka and Kyoto as well as catching the Shinkansen up to Nagano, to see the snow monkeys. So much to do and see in Japan. It was nice being there in Autumn, this time. I have just subscribed to your channel and look forward to more

    What I love most about these Japan vlogs is that you haven't just highlighted all the great tourist bits - I know that in this day and age of Instagram going to certain places can be really disappointing because people only post the best bits/angles of places, and you get there and it seems like a let down. From your vlogs I can already get a different perspective of Tokyo and Kyoto. Especially when you went to Harajuku - it almost gave me the vibe of Camden Market, which is fine, but obviously there's a lot of photos of Harajuku and it feels different when you see those.

    With so too much doubt traveling alone is something I want to do. I really enjoyed all of this experience. Part lll or maybe Kyoto drew me in. A few mentions, the simplicity of the plain white awnings tied down with concrete bricks, the neutral colors of the commerce areas, the memory of the New York Orange Gate installation brought back, the Temple and lastly while passing some hedgerows you reminded me of an Alice in Wonderland in a very curious place. LOVED IT🍒🤗

One thing we didn't realize about it is that it is a very touristy type of show, meaning that it was mostly foreigners that were there. I guess Japanese people don't really go there. As a solo traveller most of the time, quite a few things are so relatable, e.g. I specifically detoured to Golden Gai and failed to go into any bars there mostly due to my Japanese inability. The whole series remind me so much of being there last summer and I was under the impression that I would definitely go back very soon - good expectation and very unfortunate reality now :/ Please keep shooting those vlogs, some neighorhoods in London may be as interesting!

    Hey, I’ve loved these vlogs so much!!! I’m planning a solo trip to Japan for the spring and would love recommendations, do you think longer than a week due to jet lag? Areas to stay in Tokyo, pros and cons in general after your own trip? Airline recOmmendations? What’s the currency situation like? Lol so many questions, hope you don’t mind! Hope you aren’t too jet lagged when you’re home and have an amazing Xmas ♥️♥️♥️

      I'm not Lizzy, but I really think Japan deserves 2 weeks to do it justice. Tokyo + Kyoto + Hiroshima, with day trips to Nara, Himeji and Osaka. 1 week is pretty rushed (as you can see - Lizzy missed most of the temples such as the golden temple in Kyoto due to lack of time).

    Well done travelling alone! As a blogger did it kill you not to have someone on hand to take your pictures? Did you mingle much with the locals? How was it getting around with the language barrier?

    Quick question: do you vlog with your phone with something holding your phone to stabilise it, keep your hand from slipping into view ? Or do you just hold it with your hand? The video is steady and it works. Want to know so I can use the camera on my phone more. If anyone in the comments know best way to film using IPhone camera please leave a comment. Thanks.

    Sky discovery channel had a whole afternoon dedicated to japan yesterday, good timing♥️
    Also there’s a really good 12 step lesson series on TH-cam with Thomas Campbell re: consciousness using binaural beats I think you’d really like it
