talking about being in not the best headspace throughout the week and having it being a recurring thing - I get that too and it took me years to figure out that it always happens when I'm on my period! I looked it up and getting more depressed and anxious than usual seems quite common for other people while they're on their periods so maybe this is your issue too (as if we needed another side effect during them ugh)

Hi Lizzy, thank you for acknowledging the situation. I am well upset with how governors and some just regular people over there are facing it. I moved from London back to Spain a few months ago and now we are currently in lock down. Not allowed on the streets at all -only to go to the supermarket when strictly neccesary and to the farmacy. It is SO scary. People are losing loved ones and not being able to say bye to them or reunite with the family, transport is not allowed. So really we are all shocked, taking everything in, getting out to our balconies every night to clap together to our NHS, trying to put humour into it and helping our elderly neighbours with supplies. We all feel as one in our community. So seeing tons of influencers going for facials, trips, shopping and going out for dinner feels crazy. I have been real worried for my London friends; as streets here are completely empty now but I don't know how is that going to be possible in London specially, and after the gov. advice. I am very grateful as you are the first influencer I have seen acknowledging the situation and I reckon it's a time to work for the society and our mental and physical health and nothing else. I do feel you with your headspace, as we have a 15 days at least lock down and on day 4 haven't been able to get any work done, it's all too much! but we are all together in this. Please stay home if you are reading this. For the elderly and for actually everybody. Love! Mar, Barcelona (Spain).

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for your comment! People in London are starting to take it more and more seriously from what I can tell. I think we all live such privileged lives that the 'it won't happen to me' mentality is finally waning, but has taken a little too long (me included there). Do you know how long you expect to be on lockdown for? I hope your mental health is feeling a little better today, I am also very anxious at the thought of being stuck inside! xx

I read "The house of The Spirits" by Isabel Allende and I would recommend it a lot, it's much shorter and the story follows mainly female characters through (maybe) 4 generations of the same family. it's very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot. It's often compared to One Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez (which I also recommend) but this one is more focused on male characters

Good choice Lizzy. Glad you decided to stay home. Difficult decisions and a situation that is global. Hard to navigate. I'm glad you noticed how much to touch your face. I noticed it too when I was watching, mostly because I do it too and I'm making a conscious effort to stop. I'm in Canada we're just starting to feel the impact. Be safe. Take care . I think if we're all as diligent as we can be now, it'll prevent the situation from escalating. Give yourself a mental break and enjoy the time you spend relaxing and watching a favorite program. Reading should be an activity that you enjoy.. I love your garden space. Maybe spend some time planning that space. Gardening is good for the soul

Oat milk froths because of the added fat in the form of oil it’s made with. Oatly has a lower oat content and higher oil, whereas Minor Figures has higher oat content and lower oil. It also depends which Oatly you use - Oatly Barista has a lot more stabilisers and additives to help it froth. I like Minor Figures but use a steamer attached to a coffee machine - it needs more ‘help’ getting foamy but I think tastes so much better!

I think the word your looking for with your eye us Chalazion - I had one a couple of months ago too. If you bathe it like you're doing in water that's as hot as you can tolerate for about 20 seconds, then kind of squeeze around it as if you're trying to pop a spot (but not directly on it). This is what the doctor told me to do and it worked well! Also you can get antibiotic drops prescribed that help too. Hope it feels better soon! X

I tried SO many other oat drinks and they are miles apart from Oatly! I bought 36 cartons of it when I was moving abroad just to make sure I'm covered for a few months lol. Also, I'm glad you decided to stay at home. Poland is currently on lockdown, everything is closed and people are surprisingly taking so much responsibility! I hope the UK will slowly take this approach too. Stay safe! x

Eye is probably chalazia. The best way to treat it is boil the kettle and soak the corner of a flannel in the boiled water then as soon as it's just cool enough, compress it on to the chalazion. Obvs be very careful not to burn yourself. You may need to repeat this up to ten times, reboiling the kettle a few times as the water will get cool too quickly. It's the only thing that's ever worked on mine. Hope it works.

It can be a Chalazion, similar to a stye, but stays for a very long time, and you will have to go to an eye doctor to get it removed, (from inside of the eyelid, so won't leave anything on the outside), it's a very small procedure, no stress from that. But massage it with clean finger, and put hot towel over it would help.

OMG if you have a chalazion on your eye it can take so long to go. Don't put any make up on and use a heated mask and do hot compresses - also taking Omega3 supplements helps - it basically is your eye natural oils that are to dry to moisturise your eyes so they create bumps! Hope this helps. x

I don't believe that "ugly" fruit and vegetables are really part of the food waste issue. They can be used for livestock feed, canned, frozen, in restaurants for cooke food. That isn't the issue with food waste. That happens with people and restaurants cook too much or over buy and have to throw things out. I wonder if oddbox is green washing.

I like some of the earlier Isabel Allende books but then went off her stuff so I know what you mean re that book, I read a great book on London - I think it was by Edward Rutherford? I think you will love Wolf Hall - not being english I found it hard to keep all the characters straight in my head but still enjoyed it - I think there is a second one also. And the tudors - yes excellent and Henry Cavill - wow.

Okay, very important question here (ha ha, so not): did you put that half an avocado in the fridge just...by itself?? Like, not in any sort of container and with nothing on it (like waxed paper ?) ?

If you'd like to dip into Marxism, I suggest reading Engels, it gives a really good idea of where Marx's ideas come from and an easy read. Engels wrote about the working class in Manchester :)
A good book about cities is Cronon's Nature's Metropolis. It talks about Chicago, it's very nicely written, award winning book. It's a history book but it's written like a novel. Referenced by so many academics as a key reading on cities.

You mentioned the stye. Please get it checked out. I have had a chalazion cyst since September, and recently it got a twin! So now have two. I’m having the operation to remove them, don’t google that, it’s not a nice op. Get yourself a heated eye mask, and make sure you use a compress every day, just gently massage it, I’ve grown to really really hate mine. But worth getting checked out ASAP at a hospital eye clinic

Strangely you've sold the book you're not enjoying to me, what is its name again? Been following your blog since the start, used to comment regularly to show you some support in the early days/also because you're Northern but haven't done for years as you have become so big so never think needed. Well done

I appreciate your choice (💯) but also the shaming of influencers over still going on their trips is so annoying. If anyone chose to now, yes - not cool. Some of the people who made that choice a week or more ago (sunbeamsjess comes first to my mind) - give em a break. EVERYONE is just trying to figure this out, it's uncharted waters and here in the USA and I believe in the UK, we haven't been given super clear directives on this until recently. That said, I think at this point, it's clear what has to be done. I also have to say, Lizzie, that now is the time where your influence is more important than ever! Social media influencers are accidental public health ambassadors! Studies have shown during the AIDS epidemic that whether your friends, family, etc. used safe sex practices was a huge indicator of whether you did. I've seen such a shift in people choosing to stay home and I think a lot of that has to do with social media influence, small and large. Thank you for understanding the role of your voice in this! ❤️

Lizzy, suggest you stay away from drunken elephant if you are having problems with your skin - I found this really really irritated my skin when I used it. Do really really like the Chanel serums (they are expensive!), they are brilliant - really recommend, very gentle but great on the skin. S x
