Hey, its really nice to see someone getting into Indian literature. As an Indian, I have a few recommendations. Arundhati Roys work is brilliant in general, along with God of Small things theres also Ministry of Utmost Happiness and a brilliant anthology of essays (albeit extremely long) called 'My seditious heart'. She has a feminist voice and is very aware of the social and political climate of the country, which makes her work more cognizant of the ground realities as opposed to writers like Gregory David Roberts. Also consider the works of Ismat Chughtai and Anita Nair. Enjoy!

Tears here as well. Adored seeing all the baby lambs, I remember trying to get my friend to stop the car between London and Bristol the first time I saw proper english countryside lambs.

I have read Shantaram years ago, loooved it. Kite runner was good as well. I am reading now The Name of the Wind- a bit of a fantasy, but extremely well written, you just jump into that world straightaway. Would recommend.
The God of Small Things is a truly beautiful text - I'm sure you know but it deals with some extremely heavy ideas - I'd personally hesitate to read it when my head wasn't settled. I thought I'd mention in case it helps, but any reader knows themself best.
If you like books set in India I remember that the inheritance of loss was a book that I had to slow down and savour as I got close to the end and then re-read immediately I had finished it Kiran Desai - it’s really special and she won a big prize as I remember
There is a photography book called ‘Paris in Colour’ by Nichole Robertson that I have and love looking at. Your theme idea really reminded me of it - might dig it out later. Think you would really enjoy it Lizzy 😊

If you are looking for other books set in India, I was suggested Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. I don’t know what the situation in the UK is, but I have been able to order from my local bookstore online. It’s a great way to support a local business and it may ship faster than amazon at this point.

God of Small Things is one of my favorites! I just read about a site called bookshop.org and it allows you to shop from and support local bookstores. I know I am way too reliant of amazon, so this seems like a great way to support local bookstores wherever you live and keep them in business.
Love the vlog, but I really don't like when campaigns use t-shirts/other merch to raise money for charities and causes. It just serves to trick us into thinking that the way to fix structural issues is through capitalist spending, in turn, valorizing the production of more goods without doing any meaningful change. Not meaning to be rude at all just something that grinds my gears mildly! x

Maybe could inspire you to have the next solo trip to Moscow! And in case you need a feel good book and just sunshine covered pages then my old favourite is "My family and other animals". I could definitely see the correlations between the book and your videos right now! A rant on books, sorry, haha, but I feel like books feed our visual work (as creatives) so much. If you like thrillers I would really recommend "I am pilgrim" by Terry Hayes. It's a monster with I think 800+ pages but I could not put it down! So many twists, turns and clever set-ups, a proper page turner! I really enjoy your content and your honesty in all this, keep it up!
