“Scheduling lesser opponents”. Check the SEC schedules. Mercer, WKU, Georgia southern, Chattanooga, on and on. They have been scheduling cupcakes for decades.
I was once a big fan but Herbie lost me last year, each week leaving and dropping hints FSU was going to be left out of the playoffs ( even before QB injury). He was placing seeds each week, hinting at what was coming and laying reasons why it was justified, which it simply wasn't.
Just to play devil’s advocate. FSU got their doors absolutely blown off in the worst beating I’ve ever seen by UGA in their bowl game last year. A team that loses 63-3 is not a playoff team in my opinion. They would’ve lost by 40-50 to any of the teams in the playoff. I think the committee’s choice was vindicated.
@j.brendenstookey3437 The exhibition bowl game after a playoff snub has zero bearing on a team considering half the team opted out. By your logic Georgia should have been left out of this year's playoff. After all they had 2 losses, had to come back after being down by 14 points in the last 5 minutes to a crappy Georgia Tech team at home and took 8 overtimes to beat them to avoid a 3rd loss, and had to go to overtime again against Texas a week later. On top of that their QB was out just like FSU last year. If FSU didn't deserve a bid last year, then Georgia clearly did not deserve one this year is my point.
He insulted the Buckeye fans by calling anyone who demanded better from Ryan Day, OR let him go. He called them fringe fans, and put them in the same category as those who gave death threats. It’s a good idea for a business to not insult your customers.
Herbstreit had lost his way of being objective as a sports analyst, commentator. He has instead become a component of the corporate sports media instead of enlightening the college fandom in a fair and unbiased way.
So Indiana defeated Washington and Michigan from last year's tittle game and only lost this year to the two best teams in the country. Sure don't look at Kirk the same anymore ...the Hoosiers had an incredible year and deserved to be there.
ESPN literally calls themselves the SEC network. They were openly campaigning for the committee to include Alabama and South Carolina. There’s nothing wrong with that as long as they don’t expect to be taken seriously. To quote an ESPN personality from a time when the network was worth watching, “don’t hate the player…” -Stuart Scott (RIP)
Herbstreit was thinking of the future. He trashed Indiana to create a Narrative so future CFP committee will vote against similar teams (not in the SEC). He is paid by ESPN and they own the SEC media rights. It is a conflict of interests, but there aren’t really any checks, so he gets away with it. The fun thing about Indiana is they may be the only team to play last year’s champ and Runner-up and this year’s. The wins over Michigan and Nebraska are looking better also. People who say bowl games don’t matter are fans of losing teams. This year it is the SEC fans…. Next year it may be the B1G. The truth is everyone wants to win bowl games. No one goes into the game saying I hope we lose. It is just sour grapes.
Everyone knows ASU was screwed out of the win in that game. From the wrong call on targetting to the rules stating a field goal CAN bounce through and count if not touched by the kicking team after being blocked. And it seems like Herbie has turned into a crochety old man that no longer likes his job.
Herbstreit should leave ESPN and jump to BTN or Fox so he wouldn't have to swear allegiance to the SEC. He could be more loyal to his roots. The Big Ten!
I’m not a College football fan more of a NFL guy but for me the playoff system seems to be working it’s won on the field and not from some voting system, also I have always felt all of NCAA is a little 1 sided with their schedules front loaded with lesser talented opponents
The problem with the word “best” is that “best” is an opinion. And opinions are like A holes. 12 “best” teams totally puts bias in to the equation. Most “opinions” would have had Georgia and Penn State “besting” the Irish. The only way to do seeding in sports is by using “deserving”.
But Herbie thinks the "best" is always an ESecPN team. You have to admit, he should just be in an SEspnC cheerleaders uniform every Saturday. What an ass he is.
I think most fans care more about things being fair than they do about there being a few more exciting matchups. I would rather live in a world where big time teams have soft nonconference schedules than one where a 9-3 team gets into the playoff ahead of an 11-1 team when the difference between there strength of schedules is anything short of absolutely massive.
Herbstreit reminds me of that cartoon dog that is always running around telling the bigger dog how great they are. The dog would always dance around, never shutting up. He’s always been like that. Yeah, I don’t watch game day or any of these other ESPN shows. Not watching keeps me focused on more teams and the sport. I don’t care to be manipulated by corporate shills who want to tell me who is the best and who isn’t deserving. Leave it on the field. Next corporations to take down, recruiting services and their scoring. As in, a top ranked recruit signing with a smaller school and then the player gets demoted in scoring. The scoring is the basis of the top 25, so it’s important to smaller schools. Manipulative.
Kirk can have an opinion. I am from Indiana and this was not offensive. I heard all the same comments from other people covering Ohio States loss to Michigan. Losing to them is a big deal in Columbus.
I love it when critics employ the old "I'm going to set you straight on things because I know people agree with me." Sorry, but your argument is as all over the place as his.
Want to know who should have been there instead of Indiana that Herbie could have named? BYU which was 10-2 before they dog walked Deion and CU in the bowl game.
I’m going to play Devils’s advocate. The big name schools move the radar for the casual fans, and that’s what ESPN wants. I just know from my work, everyone was talking Notre Dame cause they don’t like them. If Indiana were in the Championship, most of the people at my work wouldn’t care. It’s just a reality as ESPN always plays to casual fans and not the diehard sports fans.
you guys are clowns. clueless...'Herbstreit" played at Ohio State, "quarterback", But did not start till his senior year, winning season but lost their bowl game. He was never "good enough" to play in the NFL, hence his career at ESPN...similar to what Alabama believes is God, or Nick Saban. His career began at Toledo, their typical winning season, believe it was 9 games. Michigan State hires him (to beat Michigan, Ohio State), 5 years of "average" wins, basically 5,6, 7 win seasons, nothing special. LSU hires him, believe it was 4 seasons, might have been 5, but they have "1" outstanding season and he goes to the NFL, hence Miami Dolphins, he SUCKS, 2 seasons, they were running him "out of town" when Alabama hires him(he retreats to college football), saves his career!!!!!. These "analyst" are NOT the brains most believe, it's all marketing.
For the first time, I watched the first two rounds of the football playoffs, but could care less about these last three games because it’s the same big Brand schools that I’m so tired of watching. I want to watch and see a small school beat a big school just like in March madness basketball.
How is a two loss BYU team not getting any respect? Yes, I agree that Miami was probably a better option than either of the ACC teams that got invited to the tournament. But let’s look at BYU. Both of their two losses were by narrow margins. In both losses, they had potential game-winning drives at the end of the fourth quarter. Against ASU, they really only lost by 2 yards. And ASU gave us one of the best playoff games of the entire playoffs. Zero respect for the Cougs to not be in this discussion. And, by extension, zero respect for the Big12.
So John, stop riding the wave of bashing Kirk, and tell me your opinion of why IU was there, and justify it. We all have opinions of what we want and desire, and the committee might have got it wrong this time, or maybe not. We already know that winning your conference might not get you a bye next year, and strength of schedule will probably have more emphasis along with number of wins. I’m not a big fan of bashing talking heads on ESPN, nor Fox Game Day, because you have, Alabama, Georgia, OSU, ND, M, USC, and more bias in the discussion because of who is sitting at the table. Live with it, or turn the channel.
You, and Kirk, can rationalize, rehash, cover his ass, use revisionist logic, whatever. The point is, and will continue to be, that he unfairly, completely unfairly trashed Indiana, to the entire country, and they deserved none of that! I don’t care how many broadcasts or how tired he was. Ultimately, no matter the excuses, he was dead wrong, unfair, mean spirited, and a shill for the SEC. No matter the excuse.
John, because you have integrity you project integrity to others in your profession. Kirk is dishonest frequently during broadcasts and on the Gameday set. He is the Ron Burgundy of CFB. He spots out the company line regardless of objective reality or what the implications of his claims might be. BYU, Miami, ISU, any of those teams had a better schedule and comparable record. He doesn't even deign to mention the Big XII's claims. Why? Because he's hopelessly biased by the company line. Tim Brando is a professional, great spot on 365 the other day. Kirk Herbstreit is a corporate schill, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beyond that. He is an empty suit and handsome face without a soul. You can tell from his abandoning any consistency, objectivity, integrity, or loyalty to actual competition and sport.
Who the hell is totally objective when your a fan. Kirk probably does about as good of job as anyone does. Sorry if some fans get butt hurt. What he said about toxic fans was true and Nick Sabin basically backed him up. For the yearsSEC has ruled and big 10 schedule is cream puff. Only a few good teams in big 10. Only cry babies are even crying about commentators . So big 10 folks prove all the time they are thin skinned and just whine about everything. I’m from Ohio but embarrassed by OSU fans. God your such whiners
Look at Ohio States 1st three games this season. Who did they play ? The OSUckers aren't college football now. They are Semi-Pro in the business of buying players in an out of control system.
@davidtownsend7831 Care to see a list of who the top 3 NIL Transfer Tampering Portal spenders are ? ...... or do you walk like a DemocRAT and prefer to try and hide the truth ? I agree with you that Ohio State did that for years when it was supposedly illegal. Now that it is legal why worry ? ? ? ... Ohio State has more money than anybody and it shows in their player acquisitions. OSU only has 2 Championships in the last 54 years, but now that buying players is legal I wouldn't be surprised if they are in the 12 team playoffs 25 years in a row and win about 15 to 20 titles. Does that seem like the normal way things go in " amateur college sports " ? The problem with this new system is it will destroy college football and other college sports ! 🙃
@toolegittoquit_001 ohio state was listed as the # 1 NIL total player purchases for 2024 with $ 20,000,000 . HES SOLD HIS SOUL TO ESPN AND THEIR SEC LOVE. NOT THE SAME PERSON HE USED TO BE.
I guarantee more people were cheering for ASU than Texas last week. People love to cheer for underdogs.
Was ANY other Texas school’s fanbase pulling for UT? I can’t think of any who would.
So true
Not under Dogs; Anti-SEC. 🤣🤣😅😅😁😁😂😂
I was pulling for Texas
Kirk Herbstreet definition of a corporate ass kisser
Could not have said it better myself.
The worst part about the Notre Dame vs Penn State was listening to Kirk Herbsteit on pregame and halftime.
IDK, having to listen to the ESPN play by play was pretty bad too lol
His glazing of Allar was gross. Kid didn’t complete a single pass to his WR’s. They could have just had direct snaps to that TE (who was killing it in limited touches) and done better.
try the skycast, NO announcers, like old time football, just stadium sounds and calls, closest thing to actually being there
Kirk is a Shill, Is he still Crying? I mean not about his dog. SHILL!
@@stevemeloccaro891 Where does one find skycast ?

The Citadel.
Absolutely right. I've been complaining about that for years.
ESPN and their SEC PRAISE is nauseating, use to like Kirk. No more GAME DAY for me. Change GAME DAY to SEC TODAY.
I stopped after the addition of the clown Pat McAfee
Herbstreit is a Corporate Shill .. IGNORE! (I am an Ohio resident and Ohio State fan). He is worthy for all of us to just ignore!
I said the exact same thing.

Herbstreit had lost his way of being objective as a sports analyst, commentator. He has instead become a component of the corporate sports media instead of enlightening the college fandom in a fair and unbiased way.
True sec football fans realize that the SEC was down this year. The teams making the play-off this year deserved to be there.
Stop trying to be reasonable. That's not allowed. 😂😅
If your criteria is whether Notre Dame can beat you, what does that say about Georgia?
Kirk just sorry he had to eat his own words and SEC bias. 😂😂😂😂
