I don't understand the outrage with the Top 4 conference winners getting byes. If you win your conference championship you should get an advantage. I guess if you want to go to 14, like the NFL, you could just give the Top 2 byes but then it would just end up being the SEC and the Big 10 getting byes.
The challenge is that the SEC and Big10 did not each get all 4 Byes. Life is tough in the SEC since Saban retired and every school can now pay players. No more SEC cheating by paying players = no more SEC dominance. 😉
The point wasn't really getting an advantage. It was having to play the extra game (conference championship). Of course, the problem is the losers still play the extra game AND have to play in the first round.
The conference commissioners and college presidents are not the ones that can fix this. It is the fans that have the power but they refuse to do it. That’s what he gets paid to do he works for the SEC network. You act like he’s a random guy being an SEC mark oh wait that’s what this guy is for the big 12.
I really don't get it. How is it fair to the Big XII and the ACC to not get an auto bid? Last I checked, we are 2 quarters of the P-4. I'm not understanding how this can even be serious.

The SEC and B1G have already broken away. GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEADS. They may add a few more teams like ND and Clemson , but it won't be many. They are already operating and planning like they are a separate league from the rest of D1. There is no recourse for any other conferences, so at this point, they should break off and ride out the slow burn. ACC and B12 need to cancel all regular season scheduling with the P2 in all sports, and form their own tournaments. The only retaliation is to deprive them of wins over your teams and make them beat up on each other. The writing is on the wall. I totally agree.. ACC and BIG 12 fans are clinging to false hope. The P2 are already in play. It's just a matter of time for them to pluck a few more teams from either the ACC and BIG 12 and close the door for good. The ACC and BIG 12 need to start planning out their own system and select the top remaining schools in G5 and create their own system and playoff.
The whole premise of his argument tests upon the premise that: "We can safely assume, without proving it via a game, that our conference is better than yours." Horse dung.
The playoff made LESS sense with the P5 than the P4. With 5 power teams, at least one P team was guaranteed to not get a bye. It now makes perfect sense...unless the CFP committee deems a Boise State more worthy than a P4 team....leave it be. If the SEC and BIG10 want to flex them muscle...tell them to pound sand and let them leave. NIL has and will continue to level the playing field...
The SEC and BIG 10 should not be so eager to set aside the BIG 12 and ACC completely. College football was and is extremely popular in just about every region except the Northeast. Even in the Northeast, there are still many Penn State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, etc.. fans. College football runs the risk of becoming a very regionalized sport, i.e. NASCAR. The BIG 10 is situated in many areas where suburban moms are steering their sons away from football. Short term gain and long term demise.
I quit watching Finebaum a couple years ago now, as he is indeed "a little weasel"; Just like Saban and Kiffen, like weasels so "they will steal, every chicken in a henhouse". Just as the crooked sec and big 10, stole teams from the BIG XII; Trying to "kill off" the BIG XII, but they did NOT succeed with their nasty plans. The difficulty is that we THINK the SEC is great & some years the top schools ARE great, but since they don't play many P4 games we don't really know from year to year.
Proper seeding is good for the playoff, the only people that don't see are the whiners they know their teams aren't good enough to be in the top 4 via actual rankings.
The real problem here most of the buy teams lost. Did the buy teams who got to skip around get a home game? Or do they play at neutral sites? I think it was bowl games was it not? Did each of those bowl games have the same payout to those two teams as what was in the first round? I've seen two different takes on this. But it seems to me being able to host a home game even if the institution has less cash in hand the area gets the benefit from all the hotels restaurants and ancillary services that get paid for while people are there for the playoff game. They're missing out on an economic boon. So I'm of the opinion that it should be 16 teams play against each other for the rights at the bowl round
Without the byes you punish conference champions as the non championship participants would not have played during that weekend. A 16 team format only works with the conference championships being removed. We know thats not going to happen hence the discussions regarding if the CFP should expand that conference championship weekend to have play-ins for the at large schools not participating in conference championships.
