In literally any other movie, this would be the climax of the entire film. Here? Not even the first twenty minutes.
To be frank it still is the most outstanding scene of the movie. Granted, a lot of them are stunning, but this is just overwhelming!

@@bgmt94 For me this is the most visually stunning scene, the Rock Rider chase has the best soundtrack (Brothers in Arms) and the final chase has the best drama and action. Each of the big chase scenes excells in something different.

When Nux sees the others get sucked into the fire storm his facial expression, in my opinion, really shows him witnessing their death and their ascension to Valhalla. This is also why I think he gets so excited to die because he think he really did witness the Valkyries carying the warriors to Valhalla.

Fury Road had three main characters who all had their arcs. Max regaining his sanity. Furiosa achieving her goals of rescue and independence. Finally, Nux with his his simple, mind opening to new emotions and world view causing his redemption from the cult.
I love the fact that fuel and energy were nigh impossible to find for this world and yet every rig in the show is a fuel guzzling racer or off road juggernaut. While a musician shreds a guitar with a flamethrower on it.
Not many people left here so one oil deposit is lasting quite awhile
the fact the fuels green makes you think they dilute gasoline with other chemicals as a filler to make the most of it though i could be wrong
Think of it as display of power. In a world where resources are scarce, wasting said resources is making a statement of how rich and powerful you are.

For a shantytown with a few dozen vehicles like the Citadel, there’s more than enough oil to flaunt and waste basically forever.
Iirc in 2021 US alone consumed well over 350 million gallons A DAY. In one of the other scenes, people eater complains the entire chase consumed over 30k gallons. That’s insignificanly little in comparison.
But of course, to war boys and beggars who don’t know better seeing the flamethrower and all that engine power seems like an unltimate display of wealth
Joe has functioning, dedicated oil refinery. Its nigh impossible to find for other people, but he basically has what's essentially nigh-unlimited power at his disposal.

I love that in many scenes of Mad Max the characters were dealing with multiple challenge simultaneously. In this scene Max was trying to break free from his chain and stopping Nux from his suicidal mission. Nux was trying to keep his bloodbank from escaping, at the same time keeping it from attacking him, while he drive into the storm chasing the War Rig. The choreography and editing was excellent!

I watched this movie on opening night in the Theaters, and remember watching as the car was sucked up into the storm, the music and atmosphere of movie along with how everyone was reacting in the seats around me was intoxicating. Gods this is one of those movies that was both good on and off the big screen. However the best sensation was when you sat in those seats with the surround sound blaring with the massive screen in front of you is amazing.

Only movie ive seen in a theater in 10 years,, it was magnificent.
This is one of the only movies I watched in theaters twice. First time in 3D, second time without 3D because I wanted to see it without fussing with the glasses. It was an experience both times.
The only other film I watched in theaters twice was Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring.

Saw this 5x in the theater (twice in IMAX). It's early February 2018, I'm 52 years old and I still watch these sequences and gasp for air at the end, realizing I haven't been breathing. Mr. Miller, you are totally bullwhacko, and bless you for it!
Indeed. It's, dare I say it, art -- and it's such a good story how Mr. Miller in his late 60s outshone all other action directors. And they know it.

I love the (captivated) detachment Nux has from the tornado scene - like we have from the movie - before the flying war boy that hits his car brings him and us back into the story.

OH WHAT A SCENE! WHAT A LOVELY SCENE!!
Agreed; this scene was one of the most memorable in the film. I love the way the orchestral score rises in the background as the flaming car goes airborne and the riders start spinning like a Cirque du Soleil show.... and Nux and Max are just watching in awe as this insane sandstorm-fireball-tornado twirls in front of them. Pure cinematic genius.
Finally, someone who feels the same way about this scene as I do. This is *the* scene in this movie. It is absolutely beautiful seeing the raw destructive power of that tornado, for a moment, the entire movie is focused on it, until that Warboy brings us back to reality.
Nux is witnessing them, and as is his character, one assumes judging them fairly and seeing them all go to Valhalla. When they're gone, he's focused on HIS turn. What a day, what a lovely day for him and his brothers to die in glory on the fury road.
As an actor Nicholas Hoult’s acting in this scene inspires me so much. 10/10 movie.
I am so happy for the kid in About a Boy that he got to play one of the coolest characters in one of the coolest films ever made. He’s so bloody good in it. Nice one Nicholas 👏

It always amazed me how completely Joe was able to convince these kids that he was some chosen savior. And that some grand afterlife awaited them if they died in 'his' name. They really had no clue. I actually felt sorry for the War Boys.

One of the best, if not THE best, experiences I have ever had at the theater. This was the best movie of 2015 and one of my all time favorites. Action movies don't get better than this.

Out of all the movies we selected, this movie was what stood out the most that left me being invested in the characters and the plot. We were all blown away how great this movie is and I will always cherish it as one of the greatest movies in history.

This scene is nothing short of incredible, every time I watch it just blows me away. This is what I love about the best action movies; the frenetic chaos, unrelenting intensity, stunning imagery, great sound, devil-may-care characters staring death in the face... what a masterpiece!

i watched this scene with my brother in a theater downtown having no clue what it was about and the fact i had no clue about this crazy world made it so much more amazing and fresh.
oh man, the music, the filming, the environment plus the car who gets sucked in the storm, its all beautifull and lovely made, this is one of my favorite movies(especialy this scene right here)
