My favorites definitely are Anne Bancroft and Mel Brooks. I was surprised at first when I watched Be Kind Rewind's video on her and found out that she was also the wife of Mel Brooks. Just like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, their relationship lasted until the day Anne died
Yes that was a real love story not fake like some of theses others.
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz may not have lasted long off screen, but onscreen, they were absolutely iconic.
As a big Star Trek fan, I am eternally grateful to them.
They should have been #1 actually! They were THE DUO.
Even if they slip up they still stuck together to fight for interracial marriage
My favorite classic Hollywood couple is Laurence Olivier & Vivien Leigh! They were seriously one of the best looking couples of all time in Hollywood and love their dramatic background.
And vivien leigh then cheated on him with Peter finch
@@liverpool2005 so did many other celebrities 🤣🤣
@@tojin exactly literally every celebritiy from the classic hollywood all had affairs it was such a Normal thing to do back in the day
Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman and Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall are the best couples that stayed till the end.
Spencer Tracy × Catherine Hepburn :
*“ARE WE A CHOPPED LIVER HERE?!!?”*
Yup, they were the definition of, "So This Is Love?".
Bogy and Bacall are simply perfect for each other
Curtis and Leigh would be proud of their daughter, Jamie Lee, for finally winning an Oscar!
I was expecting a mention of George Burns & Gracie Allen
Yes !!!!
Curtis and Leigh may not had a long relationship, but they are both talented actors and they ought to be proud that their daughter Jamie Lee won an Oscar.
Hepburn's tears during Tracy's final speech were all too real, since he was declaring his real life love to her, and their decades long love affair. Sadly, Tracy passed away five months before the film was released.
Yes, she cared about him, even though both of them enjoyed same sex relationships throughout their lives.
Yes, she did love him and cared for him. That's the best I can say for them as a couple.
Tracy's last monologue in guess who's coming to dinner makes it more sad because he would pass away days after filming it
And I believe KH did not attend his funeral out of respect for his wife.
I saw on the DVD bonus features on the Guess Who's Coming To Dinner in the making of documentary that mentioned that Spencer passed less than two weeks after filming was finished.
Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. Hell of a tragic story.
Worse, unless I'm mistaken she died in her way back from a tour selling war bonds. At least that's the story I heard. It wasn't a pleasure flight. She was trying to help out during ww2.
@@vic5015 She was supposed to take the train home but was eager to get back because of rumors surrounding Clark Gable and Lana Turner so she made everyone take the plane.
I also think of Betty White and Allen Ludden. They were such a sweet couple.
Agreed! She loved him so much
I'm happy that Humphrey bogart and Lauren bacal are number 1 these two were soulmates 💘
In her book, she shared the love letters he wrote to her, they were so touching. And also what he said to their son after they brought him home. There was an intercom in Stephen's nursery connected to their room and she heard him say: 'hello son. Little fellow aren't you? I'm father, welcome home'.
Yeah, they definitely was, they're my favorite.
Tracy final speech and Kate crying for real because she knew he was dying was everything. They are number 1
Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.
Jack Benny and Mary Livingston.
Bob and Delores Hope.
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.
No mention of Douglas Fairbanks, Sr and Mary Pickford - the original Hollywood Power Super Couple?? I mean c'mon.
Muuuik kk😊 😅
Love this list! A few other mentions I'll add: Judy Garland & Vincente Minnelli (would go on to be parents of Liza Minnelli), Frank Sinatra (again!) & Mia Farrow and Bob Hope & Dolores Hope (their whopping 69 years of marriage is still a Hollywood record that no one will ever beat!).
Jean Harlow and William Powell deserved an honorable mention.
He should have married her!
@@nadyarossi5102 She fell ill
Clark gable and carole lombard the king and queen of hollywood
Desilu Studios took a chance on a project by Gene Roddenberry called Star Trek. So although Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez's marriage didn't last, their relationship helped create one of the greatest science fiction franchises of all time.
Their MARRIAGE didn't last. They were friends until the end.
The great thing is that these couple were HONESTLY in love with each other...we, the public, are SO lucky to be able to see what honest love looks like!!!!
I generally agree with this list but for Spencer Tracy and Sidney Poitier. Tracy was a user. There is nothing honorable about his behavior. And if Poitier asked for Ms. Carroll to leave her daughter for a year to be with him, he's totally bonkers. You don't ask a mother to do such a thing! I think Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft and Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee should be there in their stead.
Right! And him & his friend Harry were terrible towards Black women.
Barbara Stanwick and Robert Taylor...this is my favorite iconic couple of old Hollywook. They married in 1939 and divorced in 1951.
For the most iconic, it would be a tie between Hepburn/Tracy and Bogart/Bacall
Even thought Tracy and Hepburn had same sex relationships?
I think top 15 would have covered the couples pointed out by commenters, like Ozzie Davis and Ruby Dee, Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft (although would they have been considered “old Hollywood”?).
I think this is a good list.
Hepburn & Tracy remain my favorite classic film couple. You don't spend 25 years with someone just to be reduced to being beards for each other by someone looking to make a quick dollar without the star being alive to vouch.
Bogie & Bacall follow second. I honestly believe that Bacall loved Bogie, even after marrying Jason Robards, and loved him until her passing in 2014.
Is True that bacall loved bogie to the last day of her life. You know even her second husband call her widow bogart
@@رهفمحمودالطاهر I believe it!
Can't help but wonder how Sir Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh would have worked out if she had gotten the help she needed.
Sadly in those days the treatment was often far worse than the disease and was mostly ineffective! Also the stigma of mental illness was horrendous and very possibly totally ended her career. Many were so ashamed of any family member(my own family included) having a mental illness that the family would lie about the condition or even hide the person from others.
@@nanabutneryeah, I know. They did have proper drugs for psychiatric conditions back then.
@@vic5015 Actually they did NOT have the proper drugs then! I know because my grandfather had atherosclerosis and other mental problems starting in 1945. He became so violent that he had to be permanently hospitalized! They tried everything from insulin shock therapy to ice baths and every medication on the market. If you will check drug pattens you will discover that the psychotic drugs were “discovered” in the late 1960’s onward. In the 1930’s through most of the 1970’s there were few and ineffective choices available. If fact most of the mental disorders were unknown in those days. They obviously knew SOMETHING was not right, but they had no idea WHAT WAS WRONG OR WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEMS! Most of the early psychiatrists theories have been disproven as have their treatments.
Paul and Joanne definitely belong on this list 🙂
50 years of marriage is quite impressive!
Laurence and vivian were so great together ❤
Ruby Dee and ossie Davis should've been on the list
I agree!
Yes
I agree! 💖
ME 2 ❤❤❤
How can someone ask someone else to leave their kid behind for 6 months. Sidney Poitier was tripping yo.
When Hollywood icon Esther Williams got married to her third husband, actor Fernando Lamas, he told her that she could not bring her children from previous marriages into his house. She was allowed limited contact with them by phone and the occasional outside visit, but until Lamas died she barely had a relationship with them. And I’m pretty sure he also made her quit acting. They were married 13 years.
During an interview very late in her life, Esther was asked if Lamas had warned her about this beforehand and she said he did. When asked how a mother could accept such conditions she replied that Fernando loved her so completely and doted on her so genuinely that she felt whole with the arrangement. However, she did rebuild her relationship with her kids after his death.
@@kailyns8159 wow that’s fcked up yo. Thanks for that info.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were one of the most iconic couples of the century!❤
They sure were..
❤❤❤❤❤
The couples in #2 were just so sweet.😊
Though not a romantic couple, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney had a friendship that lasted for decades.
yep, along with her and Gene Kelly
We took a trou of Hearst Castle, where we were taken to one of its towers where Gable and Lombard spent their honeymoon. It was such a romantic venue that they must have really enjoyed their first married days together.
I recognize most of the old Hollywood couples and I seen some of my favorites couples and I even know the stories about these old Hollywood couples.❤
I know they never married but Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were together nearly 30 years
Her previous marriage was so bad, she didn't want to marry again.
But, however old they may seem to you, they're not Classic Hollywood
Jessica Tandy & Hume Cronin....They would have won the Paul Harvey Tournament of Roses. See the movies "Batteries Not included" and "Dancing With The White Dog" Those two were married for life. And that life was long.
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward should be #1.
Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford are missing. They had a live long on/off Affair and friendship.
I totally agree! Rita Hayworth and Orson Welles were a terrible couple to list. By all accounts, their marriage was toxic from the start. In contrast, Rita Hayworth’s love affair with Glenn Ford was much more beautiful and lasted decades. I think that Glenn loved Rita for who she truly was, unlike her husbands who viewed her as a trophy and only loved her for her sex appeal.
Exactly lol, I was surprised they where in front of Tracy and Hepburn
Very very great epic list I like it a lot very very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever 💗 😊
Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy😊
Very good list 🙂
Clark Gable and Carole Lombard should be much higher than No.7 they were Hollywood's IT couple before blessed Carole was killed. This was one of Hollywood's most celebrated couples, The world were in love with Clark and Carole and the world mourned alongside Clark for Carole, I must correct you Clark and Carole were not a secret for long, In fact within 4 months they were a public couple long before his divorce was final, In fact they were inseparable, There was a infamous article in Photoplay Magazine titled "Hollywood's Unmarried Husband's and Wives" and the majority of the article was on Clark and Carole, When the article shifted to them the first words were "To the outside world Clark Gable and Carole Lombard might as well be married." Clark lived and additional 19 years and yet Ma & Pa as they affectionately called one another rest next to each other until the end of time.
P.s. Kay Gable is such a swell sport, I'm glad she's close by her husband.
Errol Flynn & Olivia DeHavilland. Now There's A Hollywood Couple ! Both Beautiful and Talented !
People say the prettiest classic actress was Vivien Leigh but you are wrong , it was Gene Tierney . Taylor-Burton?? STEAMY🔥🔥🔥
Humphery and Lauren are far by one of my all-time-favorite Classic Hollywood Couples, next to Lucy and Desi and maybe, Richard and Elizabeth. To be honest, I believe that although Richard and Elizabeth were definitely iconic and a pretty great match, chemistry-wise, they were to me, second-best, when it comes to Humphery and Lauren's on/off-screen romance. Plus, they were the true definition of '"a product of loveliness'', both aesthetic-wise and saying 'heart wants what it wants'-wise. Also, they kinda basically were the "Robin Hood and Lady Marian" of their time.
elizabeth and richard!!!! a love for the ages
❤❤❤❤❤
Soap opera couple Jasam!
Lucy and Desi ❤❤
What about Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell?
OLD Hollywood
great video
If’s amazing how many of the relationships began as affairs and ended in divorce.
Same thing with celeb couples today.
Lydia Clarke 🎀 Charlton Heston
I agree, and there are two more couples that should have made it. That's James Stewart and his wife Gloria and Gregory Peck and his wife Veronique.
@@BlueSaphire70 good choice
I love watching videos about classic Hollywood. Can you guys do a list of top 100 classic Hollywood movies of all time?? But u need to fix the previous list u guys recently made of the top 10. It's a Wonderful Life is a top 5 contender, not an honorable mention.
God bless everyone. Have a good day.
What about Norma Shearer, sine you mentioned Pre-Code Era movies? Or Jean Harlow, Olivia de Havilland or her sister Joan Fontaine??
You forgot Jean harlow and William Powell forbidden love that the studios kept them apart and made her marry one of the executives at MGM which he then died under mysterious circumstances.
Carole Lombard tecnically wasn't unhappy when she was married to William Powell they simply didn't have a lot in common but there are lots of couples missing like Bebe Daniels and Ben Lyon Jean Harlow and Bill Powell June Allyson and Dick Powell Joan Blondell and Dick Powell June Haver and Fred MacMurray Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra Douglas Fairbanks Sr and Mary Pickford Norma Shearer and Irving Thalberg Jennifer Jones and David Selznick
How in the heaven and lleh were Ozzie Davis and Ruby Dee not on this list. Even as an honorable mention. Ya'll really need to hire more black people. This couple was easy.
That’s probably why the Carroll / Poiter romance was featured on the list ! There’s usually only one token minority! You know the way this goes! 😂
I definitely AGREE❤
Bogart & Bacall #1 ❤🎉❤
I didn't realize Newman and Woodward lasted 50 yrs. Right on
If by "couples" close friendships are included, then yes. Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn were both involved in same sex relationships throughout their lives.
And you know they weren't bi/pan & polyamorous how, exactly?
@@mariaaguadoball3407 most older fans tend to ignore that part of their lives and prefer to believe in the public personaes created by the studios.
Tyrone power and judy garland!!!
Tyrone fell madly in love with Judy and she got pregnant!!
Actually Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks were the MOST ICONIC
Wow!
What about Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett,Burt Reynolds and Sally Field and Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood they was The Bennifer of the seventies.
Proud second :) I haven't a thing else to say
So who cares. Your comment is pointless since you will never get anything for it.
@@Reaperguy67 yea, but I don't think anyone will gain anything from any comment.
@@Johnny_Drakes_Left_Shoe you are correct. That's why it's pointless to even care about what number comment you are. also nice profile pic
@@Reaperguy67 well, not like I have a thing else to do with my life rn.
And thank you :)
@@Johnny_Drakes_Left_Shoe you are welcome. I don't have anything to do since I been in my car since like 5 am
Interesting
Jean Harlow and William powell!!!😭
Audrey Hepburn and William Holden not even a honorable mention ?
You forgot Doris Day & Rock Hudson
rock hudson was gay, they werent together.
Friends, not a couple.
For 9 years Sydney played in Dihanne’s face!!! Remove them from this list!!
Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland
of course you forget the Frensh lover Jean-pierre Aumont and his wife Queenof Technicolor Maria Montez who married her for 8 years from 1943 untilher death in 1951
Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood
Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney
William Powell and Jean Harlow
George Burns and Gracie Allen
Do th top 10 worst things D.W. Read has done in Author
You missed Jeannette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.
Not sure Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis rate. She had a very happy 2nd marriage.
Tracey and Hepburn was la ender relationship
Literally all this couples started or ended with affairs
Love that last clip of Bogie and Bacall!
You just put your lips together and blow. 💋
Errol Flynn and Olivia DeHavilland?
They were never a couple in real life - I think this list is only about people who actually got together, not just on screen. :)
@@rebeccajunge2499 oh I thought they were a real couple.
They both had crushes on each other, but were both married to other people . That mattered to DeHavilland
@Evangelista Mono thank you both for clarifying
@@alonsoswife he did ask her to be with him, she said she couldnt when he was still married. He chose to go back to his wife
Can we stop with the lie that Ball & Arnaz were an "interracial" couple? Cuban is a nationality, not a race & his background was clearly European.
Spencer Tracy wouldn't divorce his wife because of his Catholic faith, but went on to have extramarital affairs with Hepburn and Gene Tierney.
Hypocrite much?
😍👍💗💞🌟💛🥇🏆
I love Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward but they were far from perfect. Paul Newman cheated on Joanne didn't he?
He cheated on his wife with Joanne before marrying her. It was years later before he admitted he treated Jackie (the ex wife) badly
1st 🥇
You really are sad since you give yourself a pointless medal for a pointless comment.
Nancy Sinatra was Frank Sinatra's daughter, not wife.
