That defending champ was a great great sport
Jonas is the man. He reps the Tetris community really well. Way better than the Smash Bros cunts.
@@unoriginalname6354 Sounds like someone's mad that L piece didn't make it into Ultimate
absolutely
Hes a fucking great guy honestly. Just wants to chill and play some tetris. His wife annoys me a bit though
@@davidzeibert7981 sounds like someone with common sensw. The smash community is toxic as hell
7 years in a row is nothing to scoff at...I really liked his sportsmanship...I honestly think he was really stoked for the kid.....
rwest1833_MGTOW That’s how all competitions should be. That 7 time champ put competitive FIFA players to shame lol
Even Tom Brady can't boast winning 7 straight Superbowls.
@Mike Wilhelmson I once heard an Idiot cannot pick up sarcasm..
Joseph learned the game watching Jonas, and Jonas mentored him early on. Honestly, Jonas is a terrific ambassador for Tetris all around, and probably a major reason the community is so friendly and respectful.
He really was , the Tetris community is nice
RIP Jonas Neubauer, he suddenly passed away last week :(
RIP :((
Dang... That's really sad. Always seemed like a good guy. Pray his family is okay.
RIP champ
sosad
No he didn't?!
Just FYI more info: At the time, Jonas was the 7x world champ. This was Joseph’s first ever Tetris competition and he didn’t expect to get very far, let alone win, hence the emotional reaction.
He actually set a world record of highest points for it the same year he lost, after he lost

"We don't care what Dad said, it was all worth it!"
I just spit my cereal out
Literally had to clean coffee off the kitchen counter, had me dying!
That's Jomboy at his finest.
Dad: Your wasting your life, no son of mine will ever be a Tetris champ. Now get back to studying for med school!
Jomboy is da man!
RIP Jonas. (Jonas died about a week ago on January 6, 2021)
Source
It was January 5th. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonas_Neubauer
Oh that's terrible, gone too young
Jesus christ. Thats my birthday. We lost a great sportsman/world champ and got the capitol raided. Holy crap. EDIT: Oh nevermind it was the 5th not the 6th.
He died on the 4th
When you see a breakdown of something you witnessed live over a year ago. Also they are going with the tournament right now if you want more Tetris highlights
Need a breakdown of MegaRetroMan vs. Jonas 2019 CTWC
You were there live?! Whose basement did they cover it in?
No more Tetris stupidness
Dude this was awesome to see and now it’s super cool to see Jomboy break it down. Legitimately a huge moment and love to see Joseph get attention for his accomplishments
I could beat both of these guys at Tetris without much effort.. It's just really uncool to enter Tetris tournaments.. My wife would leave me and my kids would disown me if I did such a thing..
shit man, good for him. you can see he really put a lot of passion and effort into it
What you see them doing there is nothing. Watch those same people play Blind Tetris with credit scrolling on the screen and five times the speed. I believe it's still called Grandmaster Tetris
Chairman Meow looks like he is on addies or something
@@NmberOneNetsFan nah dude we were both that hyper at 16 too lol, we are just old and bitter and forgot
@@NmberOneNetsFan who does lmao I saw nobody bugging off an addy
@@NmberOneNetsFan Nah his pupils weren't even dilated and he was not on shit you would know. Apparently it seems like you're pretending to know about something you don't.
Long live Jonas. He was the kind of guy you would want as the centerpiece of a community.
You see so many older people take losing to youngsters terribly. This guy seemed like an absolute dude and almost seemed happy to see his opponent win.
There’s no crying in Tetris!
🤣🤣😂😂
😄😄😄😄
Rest in peace Jonas Neubauer, he was such a great, down to Earth guy. Him showing his excitement for the lad is just one small example of him being an amazing person. I hope he gets implemented into the Tetris and/or eSports hall of fame.
Jomboy out here giving recognition to organized sports nobody had any idea existed!
Disc golf is amazing !

@@suppressed_viii i thought you were bs'ing. But foot baskets real. Who would have thought. But it don't have anything on "kung fu volley ball".
@@jimmyp9105 oh shit dude I forgot about that gem of a sport!
the defending 7 time champ passed away on the 4th. rest in peace
It was actually the 5th, but yeah, super sad

Harry: "Am I a joke to you?"
RIP Jonas. The greatest of all time
A lot of tetris fans into jomboy too I see...
Jomboy, I really appreciate the variety.
Here's a couple of more ideas, collegiate quidditch and pro cornhole. Lol
I think he did a cornhole vid a few months back
@@sonder006 anotha one
Watching "Quidditch" is an exercise in embarrassment & cringe tolerance.
You should do a breakdown of the most recent Tetris championships. It came down to two teenage brothers living under the same roof, so they were all competing at home.
I saw that Tetris match in my TH-cam recommends about a year ago and clicked. I saw Jomboy Media in my TH-cam recommends some time ago and clicked. Now it's all coming together
yeah, Tetris in February and Jomboy in April of this year. Full circle
The funny thing about Jomboy impersonating Jonas is that he nailed what Jonas was thinking right on the head. That is basically what he said in the interview after
I’m loving these fun sport Friday’s 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jonas is a stand up dude. Should check out his channel. These champs have a ton of respect for one another and both are great to watch
RIP Jonas
“We don’t care what dad said” 😂😂💀💀
Funny shit bro
As soon as I saw Youngblood hold his controller like that I already knew it was going to win without even knowing their names. 😂
Rest In Peace Jonas
I'm just glad that no random MLB umpire showed up to throw the kid out for no good reason.
Jonas was such an amazing sport and role model to those in the community. He will be greatly missed. RIP the 7 world champ, the GOAT.
RIP Jonas =(
Honestly it doesn't matter the sport/task/game. For someone who has spent the countless hours...days...YEARS perfecting their craft at a given thing and they finally have the validation that it all paid off? Cry your heart out kid. Good job.
He after hearing the news Jonas passed. RIP
This guy reminds me of Juan Soto
And he's only 16
Except he cries instead of doing a shuffle.
That’s rasiss
@@johnyreyes3567 hes 17 now, this is last year's tournament
How what
RIP Jonas, always in our hearts
It's cool to see Jim as committed as he is to the breakdowns in the offseason, so much so that he recorded the voice-over while in the bathroom. Always working, you just have to commend that level of dedication.
I never in my life thought I'd see this niche I enjoy get a breakdown
same
"It was all worth it! We don't care what Dad said!" 😆😂
When you pointed out my mans taking notes in the background I fucking lost it. Your humor is so sublime and I love it
Jomboy covering the CTWC??? Oh hell yea!
watching this kid play is like watching a legend being born.
Video games and Jomboy, here are two things I love and apparently two categories I didnt know I needed smashed together. Great commentary as always 👍
Great reporting. Thank you
I absolutly "😲NEED" those tetris pillows. 😹😹😹😻😻😻
Im so happy you did this one!!!
You should try watching the Tetris Tournament. It is soooooo addicting. Jonas was a great ambassador for the game. R.I.P. Jonas Neubauer.
This 7 year worldchamp inspired that 16 year old boy. It's awesome how time is just wow
I watched this live last year. So cool to see a breakdown of it!
I used to watch Jonas play every year, I googled to see what he is doing now days and it turns out he just passed away. Rest in peace Jonas
RIP Jonas, the 7-time champion
R.I.P Jonas, the Goat
Jomboy and Tetris. AWESOME!!
Hey, my dude James Chen doing commentary at the event.
He's really good at what he does. I make it a point to watch Jchensor and Seth Killian do the Street Fighter world finals every year at Evo.
James chen is awesome
James Chen has some of my favorite iconic commentary moments from umvc3 Evo
RIP JONAS. he was the goat
Probably the best tear the kid will ever shead. Congratulations champ!! 🏆
There's a lot of cool context behind this clip. Like you said Jonas is the GOAT of classic tetris, and Joseph was kind of new, so it was a bit crazy. But also Joseph uses a technique called hypertapping, whereas as Jonas uses DAS. The difference is that with hypertapping, you press the sideways buttons repeatedly to move a piece, but with DAS you hold the left or right button down (this also accounts for the difference in grips). With DAS you also have to do some extra manipulation by holding left or right before a block is dropped in order to make it travel faster to one side or another. After this point, Joseph and other hypertappers have become more prominent, overtaking the top DAS players.
Another piece of important info is that games are played for the highest score (speed doesn't matter), and players start on level 18, with clears being worth more on higher levels (but also increasing downward speeds at level 19 and 29). Modern tournaments also have it so both players receive the same sequence of blocks. Often times you have situations like this, where one player is in the lead, dies early and has to wait and see if the other person can catch up.
The other thing about this specific match is that Level 29 is considered nearly impossible because of how fast it is, so Joseph got the winning Tetris at nearly the last possible time (though Joseph is one of the few players who can survive level 29).
Interesting. What does DAS stand for?
@@tonyattardo9350 DAS = Delayed Auto Shift.
It's just the name for the delay before it starts repeating, kinda like holding a letter on a computer keyboard.
The special technique Jonas and a lot of others use is actually called "DAS charging": holding the direction you want the next piece to go during the "appearance delay" (ARE), so that the autorepeat is happening as soon as it appears.
The reason why there's a lot of weird acronyms and terms for Tetris games is mainly so that people can compare and contrast all the different versions: because there's subtle differences that the people who made the game never even thought about that can matter if you're really good at Tetris.
*Clicked on this not even knowing it was a Jomboy Breakdown™! What a bonus!!*
Honestly love to see the emotion. Even something like Tetris can mean so much to people and I just love seeing people being passionate about something
If your wondering why Joseph holds his controller like that he does something called hypertapping which is when you spam the direction you want to move in cause if you do it fast enough it’s faster than holding it.
I cant believe you did a breakdown of this. You're the best bro.
Boom tetris for Jomboy
Infonaught neck and neck
One of the greatest moments in video game history that flew way under the radar for most everyone else. I was watching this live and I still get chills.
I don't care what it's about, *this* is what real passion looks like. People might say it's just a dumb game, but it's a blessing when you can find something that moves you like winning did for this kid
The best thing about this is that I saw it live and it was madness, pure absolute madness

Jonas was smiling on the outside, but on the inside he was probably thinking "that's HORSESHIT!"
I literally laughed every time you said Tetris ... which I think was a lot
I love that the defending champ was just smiling as the kid beat him. He knew it meant so much to the kid.
Boom, Tetris for Jeff

The baseball off season hits us all pretty hard.
That was surprisingly touching for a 2 min video. Thanks algorithm.
Boom Tetris for Joseph
Seriously CTWC is such an amazing tournament. I hope more people begin to tune in.
Damn every year i see the thumbnail for jonas winning another tetris title this time there’s a new winner in town
Always good to see James Chen.
I was wondering what you were going to do after baseball season.. pleasantly surprised
BOOM Tetris for Jomboy
I hope I’m not the only one that’s actually is a big fan of this game
Yep, you're probably the only person on Earth who's a fan of Tetris.
Eli Santana it’s only the number one selling video game ever. So yeah he is the only fan for sure.
I don't watch these tournaments religiously, but I catch them from time to time.
Looks like there's a good turnout of spectators and the field is always healthy.
I love that the only accepted version for world champion is the NES version of Tetris. Awesome that something so "old" can be so perfect.
@@YaowBucketHEAD yep i like how they make the old IP's have to compete on the orginal system they where released on.
Let’s try to expand our brains here a little, we’re on a baseball channel with a baseball audience and he’s basically being sarcastic and half making fun of it the whole time. So let’s relax
I watched that shit live. Joseph Salee is a KING. And Jonas was a great sport about it
Surprisingly wholesome breakdown.
