It is unlikely that other Overseas Conglomerate will take an interest in developing the approved Illawarra wind zone site The site has raised very heavy public anger over the approval allowing the site to be developed as a wind zone site The site is no longer regarded by parties as economical because of reduced size following community concerns, it has been reduced to1,022 square kilometres instead of the initial 1,461 Other amendments will see the turbines positioned 20 kilometres from the coast. The site covers significant environmental areas including the Biologically Important Area for the Little Penguin, the Shelf Rocky Reef Key Ecological Feature and the Southern Right Whale Migration and Reproduction Area. The amended scaled-down project decreases the potential power generation, which was originally forecast to be 4.2 GW and is now forecast to be 2.9 GW. Equinor and Oceanex chose not to proceed with developing the 1,000 square kilometre Illawarra Wind Zone after the government reduced the zone by a third and pushed it 20 kilometres offshore, following significant community and political backlash.

And I’m guessing by your surmise we won’t be seeing land clearing, extra transmission lines and large lithium ion ticking time bomb batteries if we go wind and solar? And what about all the big windmill projects currently being constructed in National Parks in South Eastern QLD? You might have to do your homework when replacing old coal powered power stations like they did here in the Illawarra with the gas fired turbines at Tallawarra they simply plugged it in to the current infrastructure and didn’t even have to clear any extra land which is done whenever you use an decommissioned coal or gas power station site unlike wind and solar farms which are being built from scratch and requires all new infrastructure.
