    I know this sounds ridiculous and corny, but I feel like I'm seeing old friends when I see these figures. I was so into Joes, Star Wars and He Man. I love the 82 line. My grandparents bought me almost the whole 82 line plus vehicles for Christmas one year, maybe one of the best Christmas's when I was a kid. I couldn't believe they would even do that. You gotta love the 82' line.

    Grunt was my first figure, still a favorite because of that. Awarded multiple purple hearts after losing both thumbs and severing his right arm in direct action with Cobra the Enemy.

    Glad to see Grunt finally got some love. He will always have a place on the Joe roster. Yo Joe! err Yo Grunt!

    I always thought of him a the "army builder" figure for good guys.

    Amen. Grunt isn't a filler, or a troop builder. He's the guy. THE guy. You want to assault Trucial Absymia? He's your army. Extraction from a hostile airfield? Who do you think is keeping the enemy down to one car? Defending the Pit? You can't without him. He's not just a gunt, He's Grunt!

    Well done. I love the thought and attention to detail you include in your reviews. I especially appreciate how you really do your research and try to cover things from different angles. Keep up the good work.

    I agree with everything you said about grunt, but I think his simplicity is what makes him great. Since he is such a basic solider he is great for army building and I think he looks great paired with one of the small battle field accessory sets.

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think he would look good leading an infantry squad. And since he's green, he would work well with a lot of playsets and weaponry that didn't include figures.

    Worlds Without End is one of my all time favorite episodes/two parters. For a kids show...it was pretty dark.

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was indeed pretty dark for a kid's show, but a show about soldiers and war ought to be a little dark if it's to be honest.

      I decided to watch it and was kinda shocked that Grunt, Steeler, and Clutch STAYED BEHIND in the alternate universe. It was a sad “goodbye” to 3 of the original Joes.

    Thank U very much! This review literally brought tears to my eyes!
    I received the straight armed version of this figure in 1982, as my first G.I. Joe action -figure.
    When playing with Joes, this character was me! I loved the straight forward military look.
    Unfortunately, he was also the only figure I had with damage. His thumb on the right hand broke off from gripping his rifle. From then on, he was my only left handed action figure! The M-16 rifle fit much better in that hand anyways!

    I like how you assign figures to 'teirs' based on your opinion of them but I think the first 13 belong in a different league. They were bland and a clone army but they were the beginning and if they didn't succeed, you would not have any of the great ones after that. And yes, those are the ones I played with the most so I freely admit to being biased.

    Great review, the only way you could get him in the U.K. was collecting the vouchers on the back of the figure boxes and sending off for him. He was just know as an infantry trooper.

    by the time I got into joe all of the 1982 joes had been phased out but scarlett snake eyes and stalker, so when I inherited the 82 figures I pretended the ones with the same.head were the same guy and just had them in different gear. so grand slam was grunt but ready to play ball!

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's logical and easy to do. Grunt could man the HAL or the jet pack with just a uniform change.

    Interesting note.... I watched Pyle's "Story of GI Joe" last Saturday.... and you could almost pick out "Grunt", "Clutch", "Hawk" and "Stalker" among the soldiers around Pyle.

      It was a great movie. Excellent acting performances all around. I am not a fan of Robert Mitchum, but I thought he did well in that movie. And of course Burgess Meredith was good in everything he did-- except for the 1987 G.I. Joe animated movie, but that wasn't his fault.

    Grunt was essentially the smaller version of the original 1964 Joe.
    So he was very important.

    Another source to give context to the life of Grunt, and the real men he represents, is Bill Mauldin's WIlly and Joe cartoon strip.

    HCC, couple questions. Was part 2 of A World Without End, ever aired. I've seen the first part a few times. I still watch it on Discovery Family. Q:2 Was it Earney Pyle who sketched and coined the term "1000 yard stare"? That being said, I really like Grunt. The one I had as a kid, ended up with the hands being broken off, as well as Short-Fuze and Zap. V3 of Grunt, really took something away from the character. Maybe its his yellow pants. I look forward to your review, every week.

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, Worlds Without End part 2 did air. According to IMDB, it aired 5 November, 1985. I don't know if Ernie Pyle coined that term.
      Version 3 of Grunt is going to be a tough one to review. Not looking forward to that one. There's not much Grunt-like about it.

    Grunt proceeds to immediately lose all his new found respect with his V3 figure.

  • @jakeproven256
    @jakeproven256 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Grunt might be unique since his file card was the first ever written and grunt might be the first one sculpted I don't know the order in which the 82 figures were made the reused parts make this confusing.

    Could you do the G.I.Joe Street Fighter line in one video? I wanna hear your comments, but I don;t want you to have the pain of doing 12 different Action Figures ( excluding the vehicles and Play sets )
    Thank you. :)

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm on the fence about Street Fighter. I don't really want to collect those figures, but they may actually be considered part of the vintage line-- in which case I would have to. I haven't decided yet.

    • @bartdman95
      @bartdman95 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I too do not like that line. But I have a few Figures, coz they were gifts and I bought Chun Li Action Figures were on clearance sometime in 2001. ( They were sold for 20 Philippine Pesos. Which Would be around $.35 US / 35 cents each. In case you are wondering. ) :)
      Anyway, I'll be looking forward to that. Thanks for replying to my comment. :)
      Yo Joe!!!
