Shirley and Johnny - 'Don't Make Me Over' (1969)

Just can't believe this wasn't a huge hit in the UK in February 1969. Even Tony Blackburn made it one of his Records of The Week on his daily Breakfast show and that usually guarenteed at least a minor chart placing.Still love it though even all these years later and despite a recording career from 1964 through to the early seventies,Shirley and Johnny never did get that much deserved hit.

My wife and I went to see Shirley and Johnnie at the Ocean Club in Cardiff. They were superb. We loved theeir "new" record -"Don't make me over". I went frantic for months trying to buy it. I wasn't the only one. They would have made it to the top IF that disc had been available. You just could not find it anywhere. What a shame. We lost a top class duo from our pop scene. Someone else brought out another version about a year later, and that was that.

I still remember my father play this in his tape, I don't take so much attention of this back then...
And now, my father is gone. But this song still there.. I played it and start to cry like this song will gone as well.

It's my childhood song. At that time I did not understand the meaning of the words of this song as it is not my tongue language however from the melody I could the beauty and deep sadness. Until now I didn't want to know what it meant . I want to keep it as something beautiful

was surprised as it didn't do too well in the charts. met them when they toured the gulf in 1970 with the julie rogers show for combined services entertainment. i was stage electrician and it was a pleasure listening to them for the the whole tour

Still trying to remember which version of this song that I listened for the 1st time back in late 1970 or early 1980. After listening the original Dione Warwick here in youtube, I don't think it's her version that I mean. Maybe it's this one by Shirley & Johnny.
