I need to strip my engine and rebore the sleeves, might also have to get the valve seats cut too. Did you cut the seat yourself and if so what tool did you use?
Stephen, i cut the valve seats myself, using a hand operated valve seat cutting tool, you need to use one that cuts at the correct angle for your valves. Obviously, the valves need to be lapped in correctly afterwards, the valve clearances can then be set/ adjusted.
I have a 1998 dohc cb750 with 3,000 miles. I'm contemplating a top end rebuild to have a slight increase in Hp. Do you know what the results would be in changing the stock pistons to 0.25 or 0.50 increased dia? I would appreciate any comments. James
Hi James, with just 3000 miles on the engine, the bores should have little to no wear and nothing will be gained by fitting the 0.25 or 0.50 pistons. you need to turn your attention to the fuel and ignition systems. I am running mine on Keihin CR special 31mm carbs, CB900F cams, CBR600 coils and CB900 spark advance unit, plus a 4 into 4 free flowing exhaust system, The cylinder head has been ported and gas flowed too. In order to produce more power, you need to burn more fuel and to do this, the engine must be able to breath efficiently, hence the need for better gas flow and carburetion, the ignition system needs to be spot on too.
