Hoosier is a person from Indiana. Those gas struts should be flipped end over end. You want the rod on the downhill side because the fluid in them keeps the seals in good condition. Nice build man.
Love how you take pride in all your work including making your videos. Don’t see many guys take that much pride and the definition of skilled craftsmanship is going out the window in my opinion these days. Keep it up hopefully you continue to inspire and show what it means to be a “true craftsman”!!!
Wow. That turned out incredible! Following the body lines off the door ties it in beautifully and I don't think I've ever seen a cleaner job! Seriously, thats a job to be proud of!
Dream rig for me. I dont pipeline, i have a full time in a vessel shop, but i do repairs and stuff on the side too. Would love to have this setup. One day! Keep on hustlin
I used to hurry more than I should. I expect most men do. An old trucker told me "go slow, you'll get there quicker" and now I do. Thanks for sharing your work because a real tradesman is never too proud to learn from anyone (that's why your viewers are here!) and you really do make a difference.
I know you love pipelining but you missed your calling sir. That bed build is awesome sir. You should make them to fit all models (Chevy, Ram, & Ford) You done a really great job sir. How many hours is in this build?
That was everything out the door. Materials, paint and all. And I only charged half my normal rate on account of the way we shared it on TH-cam. It took a bit longer sense we filmed it and used it as education material. Normally it would have cost just shy of 40k
@@weekendwarrior4271that’s not overpriced. Our beds for marathon pipeline company trucks were like mid 20k. Not sure exactly that’s just what custom costs
If wind is a problem on the back boxes maybe a short bungee strap to keep tension on it when needed, Or you could put threads on both ends of holding rod so a few turns would lock it into place.
Mighty fine well executed project young man. Anyone would be proud to owne it. I do think it needs a headache rack to protect the cab. I really like the way you locked the tool boxes. A short story from my dad. He worked as a welder building municipal water towers when i was a baby. The contractor he worked for had all tool boxes made to be locked with a 5/8" bolt and nut. He demanded the bolts to be tightened with 2 - 12" adjustable wrenches. They never had any tools stolen. All of the other contractors were constantly being robbed of their tools. The bolt cutters used to cut off locks could not work on the bolts.
That is a very nice bed, Austin! I have been a follower since your pipelining days and really miss that content and miss being in that profession still myself. Out of the dozens of people I know, not a single one is still a pipeliner to this day, 2019 was the last year that I stepped on one. You have a great career going now, so dont think I am trying to degrade what you are doing. I just like to reminisce I guess. Take care.
Great job Austin, really looks great . Run that thing by the paint shop, I bet they could blend it in real good. Stay safe and keep up the great work you and Kayla do around there. Fred.
Really nice work, nice bed. If I added anything it would be a drop in tray in each of the toolboxes for small stuff I did not want to get lost in the bottom. I like the simple elegant lock. Not many folks carry an allen wrench on them since they have no idea they would need it and you would need a deep one too. Another elegant way to make a lock is to make a rectangular pocket to slide a padlock into and place a retainer plate on the backside on the shackle after you install it so it can’t fall out or be removed. Then put a hook hanging down from the lid that catches on the body of the lock itself when its pressed in and locked, but when its opened it does not catch. Almost impossible to break open without total violent entry if you use a quality lock.
That's a slick setup, like the Rino Hide look, and the inner fender over the Dually wheel wells. What would be awesome is hydraulic actuated pins to detach the bed and drop-down legs to stand it in place. Then a Flatbed to attached to the truck frame by just backing under it and same pins to secure it to the truck. That would have a Dual useability. Probably use and electric 12volt pump to overate the pins.
One of the slickest work beds I’ve seen built. Pool noodles work great to cushion loads, am Nd the can be put over ratchet straps. And pipe insulation works also if you need bigger size
You are absolutely right, slow down and do it correct the first time. Rework is a horrible situation. I ran the oilfield for seven years during the exploration boom in Western CO and N. Dakota. "2006/ 2013" the best welding education, next to Grandpa and tech school, that a person could ask for . I'm currently working the federal arena , DOD / DOS locations overseas... and that old saying still stand today. You do good work Austin, keep it up.
Austin, Austin, Austin. You don't understand an Uh Oh until you run over a section of HVAC roof with a 4 ton forklift. True story from almost 2 years ago. 50 foot sections of duct work we were building and our forklift driver, who by the way is one of the best in our area, accidentally grazed the front corner with the back tire when he was trying to back out and around another section we built. My supervisor and the guys who made the roof were working frantically to fix the cap that was built into it and make it look like nothing happened so we could install it. By the time they were done, we could still see where "something" had happened, but it was so much better than it was... Still thankful I work alongside some great miracle workers... They have done the impossible several times since then for us.
I have a dirt moving company and I carry a lot of tools and a lot of stuff I need to keep the job and my guys rolling. It’s organized but I’m always trying to find ways to refine tool/equipment storage
Boy I do like that lock system it’s slicker then wet ice I might have to try that when I build my own bed I really like that whole set up matching the body lines in the bottom with the cab really took the whole build to a next level I know it was really an extra bit of work but it looks sharp as tacks
Wish I was about 20-30 years younger, I would go into welding as a career. I regret not doing it when interested when I was younger. Still like to get into it for hobby and personal projects.
The Plate that's not lockable could be used to replace a palet to get under the pipe when mud is present or just 2 not lay on floor just needs allitle more adaptors but overall best custom box I've seen and quality and durability I love my good multi tools

Not a bad idea but it’s not just a welding bed great idea but at that point why not set up a job box and a little trailer.
Love the locking idea
I do too… but doesn’t that mean anyone with a set of Allen wrenches can access your stuff??
Does take experience to figure out the quality to efficiency ratio. I'm a quality over quantity myself. Great video!

If it's not too intrusive what was the price in material and time in labor to build this bed?

tidy job , is the back end on air , as it seems to haave very little suspension movement room . ?
No. There’s is more room than what it appears on camera. But it could still use some air bags. I’ve had air bags on most of my welding cars
