    I can appreciate your handy work on this one Matt! The details in this house are amazing. Not one door, shower or sink that I saw commercially made. It's all uniquely built for this one of a kind home. This house holds many ingredients to my forever home that I will have. Deep eaves, floor to ceiling glass, non traditional walls, 12' ceilings. I imagine it's quite efficient with the quality materials. I can't imagine what the interior and exterior lighting look like. What a masterpiece.
    Outstanding work Matt!

    Those flush mount doors should be standard in every build. I absolutely hate traditional door framing and skirting. (Yes yes I know, it's a fraction of the cost of doing these flush mounted...)
    Such a nice standard on details. Nice to see and how nice of the owner to show their house like this.

    6:43 Love those style of showers. They are amazing to look at, & use. Man, the builder on this great “house project” did an amazing job😉. Really great attention to details everywhere.....like the “hidden” doors as well. Great job, again!
    One question..... the floor to ceiling windows, how hard would be to change out, if one were to “happen” to get damaged; & who would be responsible for something like that?
    Cheers💪🏼

      Same as other commercial style windows. The trim and stops should all be on the outside, just remove and pop in a new glass unit panel. The windows just didnt come from the factory pre-installed in a frame, the frame was built and glazed on-site.

    This must have been an exciting house to build! Fantastic looking house, A+ on form. It is hard to believe people will actually live there. Children too? So much separation from the world the rest of humanity has to live in. I would love to hear more about overall efficiency and sustainability considerations. I question the use of ipe wood.

  • @Furiends
    @Furiends 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I totally appreciate the craftmanship and sweat that goes into something like this. But while I am quite into post modern looks this house seems all over the place. It gets a 10/10 as an art project but as house I'm not sure what its trying to be. I like the idea of taking modernist styles to extremes and breaking tradition but there's a lot of post modern homes that are just extremely eclectic. I feel like there's also beauty in repetition, in functionalism and in simplicity. I like things like post and beams build with all steal or bright wood ceilings, floor to ceiling glazing in the main rooms. With that said I think heat pump water heaters are really cool so I guess I look for that sweet spot of beauty in functional design. Thats also why for example I really like open showers.

    But I wonder how this might fly in a small owner-builder project in Florida where all the mechanical stuff is exposed & painted but hidden behind my kitchen and entertainment systems on one side.
    All my windows and door flush mounted with built in frames .. no interior walls, doors or trim work.
    acid stained floors.

    10:50 Unless those stair treads are 3" thick pieces of wood, no way do the open risers on that stairway meet IRC code in most jurisdictions. Then again, I could be wrong, but those openings sure look to my eye like they exceed the "4-inch sphere" test. (Hope I am wrong.)

      Nobody other than Matt and the client (and maybe the bank) will ever know. But we can get reasonably close...the place is almost 7000 sqft and we had someone else guess $600/sqft (which I think is low), so that is $4mm right there. Add the pool complex, massive amount of landscaping, architectural and engineering fees and you'll be at $5mm or more. Which is a lot of money for most people but not that much for some. I was on the tour and at this house (a little later that day) and found it to be a remarkable design, feat of engineering and build quality.

  • @Arteolike
    @Arteolike 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’m kind of down the middle here. The house is visually stunning and the details in craftsmanship are impeccable, but the house came off as really cold to me. The architects did a great job with the wood in the home, as it really lifts the home and warms up the spaces, but it’s still not cozy-the concrete floors are just too much in my opinion, a warm and light neutral ivory limestone would have done magic. This is a home I would look forward to getting an invite to, and I’d enjoy every minute of it, but I would not want to be the one living in it.

      @C J I agree that is a lot of money. I could never afford it myself. Full custom cabinets cost more than semi custom which cost more than builder grade cabinets. Press board and formica counter tops are a lot cheaper than onyx or stone. Glass floor to ceiling is crazy expensive versus a window here and there. It is all down to what your budget is and what is important to you. I don't look down on someone living in a mobile home or in a mega mansion.

      C J imagine the jobs and wages spent. Money was passed around on this, jobs created. Peoples skills used and appreciated. Sounds like a win for all involved.

      @@Upliftyourbrothers On going employment for people as well for upkeep and maintenance. Landscaper/gardener, maid, and someone to professionally clean all that glass at least once a year.

    The car that is parked outside which is close to the garage door could potentially be damaged when the door opens. Not good!

    I would put a trampoline next to the garage door while its up, it would be an awesome place to jump from

    I'm not a fan of modern style architecture - too boxy for my taste. That said, this is an amazing build with a great eye to detail.

    Wow! Just amazing. And that outdoor family room/fireplace at 11:00 was an incredibly beautiful space.
    Thanks for sharing Matt.
