I have been reading and hearing about how The Wire was probably the best TV show of modern times. Yesterday I just finished season 1 and now I understand. I probably would argue about using absolute terms like "greatest", "best" or the like, but man... this first season does not rely on peak scenes or spectacular set pieces, each episode is like a small high quality brick within the story, it never tries to fool the audience and all character arcs give you reasons to care about, and then I was reaching the end of the final episode when I immediately thought "What about Omar?" and then... speechless. And I still have not watched the other seasons. I know, too many words while the phrase "The greatest TV show of all times" is there, handy.
I love how at the end it shows the dealing starting off in Baltimore but then shows it in a few other cities (Chicago, New York). Story tellers basically saying "We only covered Baltimore, this shit is going on EVERYWHERE."
There's a very interesting perspective @1:16. The cop is walking the beat and sees some guys standing on the corner. He takes a look at them, rolls his jack and keeps walking up the street. He makes the quick deduction that these guys aren't dealers or corner boys, they're just some regular people hanging out talking. In a sense, it's that type of police officer that guys like Cedric and Major Colvin value. A police officer who can tell the difference between a criminal and a civilian. The criminals are obviously out there but the civilian lives in those same neighborhoods, goes to work everyday and those are the people the police need for info and ultimately to protect.
2:55 deep down, string didn't want to become the boss, he just wanted to become legitimate businessman
This ending scene is epic because it sets the tone for Season 2 and made sure everyone would be coming back to view. "It's all in the game yo."
Greatest TV show of all times.

Best ending to one of the best shows that has ever existed as well.
@@luisrodsWhat are your final thoughts tho? Because imo season 1 is the weakest. Critics either think so

The Barksdale connection was in New York.
They were never in Chicago bud
RIP to the man Michael K Williams

Interesting perspective!
maybe, but its more showing santangelo who's been busted down to patrol and he wasnt an effective detective beforehand
Stringer is so f***ing smooth.
Not really 😂
Damn, all that effort that the detectives have done ended by Avon taking 5 years in jail only, adding to that stringer still running business.
The true meaning of the song is very daunting
Thanks for uploading a good quality version, mate 🤝
Not at all.

Underated song, I feel like they considered it for the intro
Who knows!?
Deadwood / The Wire / The Sopranos
I think that Avon should've kept his eye on stringer that's how he would've known what stringer was doing
That's really messed up that deangelo Got all the years (and eventually got murdered) And avon got hardly anything Avon is the real snitch😢
so good
It's all in the game, YO!
And I also think that Avon should've protected his nephew better than he did
Nice song
