A/C Rest When engine is on, this is the same as the regular A/C switch. When engine is off, it switch on the residual heating mode of the car without turning the engine on.
A/C Rest is for after a little drive, just over a 30 minute drive. You are then able to use the heat from the engine to keep the air conditioning running to keep it cool or warm in the car.
REST button is for the winter. When you stop the car push the rest before you get out and the heater fan stays on low and the water pump in the engine turns round slowly as well. It gets the car warm for 30 minutes for short stops.
The rest button on the AC is for when you are parked up,say on a school run and if it's really cold like it is here in Ireland, it will keep u warm or in summer, cool, when the car is switched off...the air con or and heater's will work for up to 20 minute's with out using up the batteries life....
A/C REST ....This is a feature that utilises the residual heat in the engine cooling system to keep the cabin interior warm after the (hot) engine is switched off..., with the engine 'off', press the 'rest' button and the heater will keep the interier warm for about half an hour after which it will switch off when either the coolent temp has dropped below a certain temperature, or, if the battery voltage drops below a pre-set level. It will function even if the keys are removed from the ignition.
I’ve had a few ML’s SLK, and the last gen GLA. ‘Rest’ in the Aircon means you can turn the car off and push this and it pumps warm air from the engine into the cabin while parked to keep the interior warm in winter.
Loving your reviews! I hope when Mercedes launches this in India this year, they don't get as greedy as Audi and BMW did with the Q2 and 2 series! Overall, the new GLA looks like an evolved package.
Just bought one , exactly the same colour but with Amg 19 inch wheels , it’s a Mercedes gla executive amg line, like it but the digital dash menus/functions take some getting used to too 😉
A/C rest will keep the last climate temperature set when the car is turned off for about 30mins. Need to press the button before turning the engine off though.
Simply put, the REST button in your car can be pressed when the engine is no longer running and the heating has switched off. The REST button enables residual heat from the engine and cooling system to be blown into the cabin to continue to heat the interior of the car.
Thx for this great review! Do you think this would have enough space for my family of 3 which includes my 13 year old son or would I need to go to the GLB? thx!
We have one it is really outstanding, the reason for the fake exhausts is they look very nice, they also have fake leather but it's fine, We had 4 C Classes but as you get older it is a lot easier to get into it and a better view of the road,
I agree with the comment below. I've driven a couple of Genesis cars, they are quite well put together and drive very nicely. I will also wait for the GV70 as a turbo with 8 speed auto and rear wheel drive should drive very nicely I expect. Also the indicator stalk is on the right hand side which is helpful.
I had pretty high expectations with this car. Mat Watson said that you can hardly feel the bumps at all. But when I test drove it, I was quite disappointed. It was bumpy, loud road noise, and rattling sounds in the back. The A-Class I test drove was much better.

Great video! I live in America and my exhaust pipes are real. Im 100% sure because my mechanic had to remove the rear bumper to install a custom made tow hitch. (none available for 2021 GLA 250) and I saw them. They are also shaped differently and my rear bumper is different. Checked my door panel and it was made in Stuttgart, not at their Alabama plant too.
great review Paul, was hoping you'd cover the new GLA (hope you get the AMG one's soon too). fake exhausts are this year's piano black gloss - - just needs to go away. Still not as thirsty as my '19 Outback 2.5 😁

That tiny front reg plate looks ridiculous on the larger rear mounting. That looks like the size of mounting needed for our UK plates. They should make a different moulding for the Oz cars, especially for the price, not like it’s a budget car.
I was recently in the market for a new car and I crossed off a few models because of fake exhaust pipes... Not saying it's a smart decision by any means, it's just me :-) Plus, I just sold a 2017 Mercedes C Class that I had for the last 3 years and I didn't really like the quality of fit and finish, they really are skimping on quality in a lot of areas. It didn't bother me much during the test drive but the offset steering wheel in right hand drive models really gave me the s#!ts on long drives... Is that still the case? Is the steering wheel still not in the center but a few centimetres to the left?
Another good review Paul cheers. I think it's a lot better than the previous GLA especially the interior. Maybe a bit of a segment filler by Merc though?
I’m a Merc owner/driver since... ever. I’ve owned 9 different models and will probably get the 10th within a couple of years. Fake pipes are just idiotic fashion, though.
When exiting the car and removing the key, press this button and the car will attempt to maintain the last-set climate control temperature for approximately 30-minutes, or until the battery can no longer sustain this.
I don't know what's worst, completely fake exhaust like the one here and those blanks the new S6 has, or the stylised chrome trim that gives a hints where an exhaust used to be (VW I'm looking at you)
Rest mains if you get out the car locket et cetera go for a meal whatever the car I will still keep pumping out heat or if it’s a hot day it will be pumping out cooler from what’s left in your engine without using no power or petrol et cetera so it’s just using the heat of the engine to pump out hot air or cold air so neat little I am are use it a lot

I came to the end of my PCP on my existing GLA250 with the intention of getting the latest version but 'fake exhausts' ,flickery interior surfaces and in the UK I couldn't get panoramic roof without going AMG. So I kept the car I have. Fake exhausts Duh!
I like hatchbacks and I like SUVs but I dont like these types of cars. I mean, OEMs should just make a larger hatchback like an iPhone XL. Ain't nobody going offroad in these things.
I think fake exhausts are pretty silly. Equally silly is the amount of time and energy car reviewers put into complaining about them. They will go away eventually
Fake exhaust is a designers idea, the engineering department for sure hates it. For the motoring purist (like me), don't like it, but manufactures aim this model (with fake exhaust) to majority of drivers, they just want the car to look good, they don't care if its fake or not, most buyers probably wouldn't even know that it is fake. This trend is the same with other luxury brands, even the Asian made ones. To get a proper exhaust, you need to go one model up e.g. sporty model, in the GLA case GLA35 or 45s. You're not getting just the real exhaust but higher output engine and some additional extras that are otherwise options in lower model, at a price though. The European luxury brands uses the same concept, e.g. lower models - fake exhaust, high-end / high engine output model, real exhaust.

Yep. Seen this on Benz cars for years... even my Mum's w202 back in the day had it, as does my v167 GLE.
