really excited to see how and why the uesc marathon looks so diff in the new game - seen a LOT of people complaining that it doesnt look like lumpy deimos anymore, but the shot at the end of the trailer where it pulls out to reveal the silhouette of the marathon logo against tau ceti and kicks into the chorus of Justice gives me chills every time i watch it. pumped!!

Great video! Through your videos I've come to deeply appreciate the quality of writing that Jason Jones and the other devs put into making this game. I hope it remains in the new game. The ARG has made me very hopeful!

Really loving your takes on and coverage of Marathon. I’d be curious to see another video similar to the speculation on narrative or the hero shooter problem video. Maybe speculation about how character creation/customization could look in gameplay. As well, this would be interesting to explore as I feel Bungie excels at writing compelling characters with long spanning development and consequences. White Rabbit for example, based on how you explained them in a previous videos would be amazing to see develop as a playable host ai for our runners.
    Keep up the amazing work!

    Great overview!
I'm looking forward to the new game... and hope it's more than loosely related to the original series.

Good video as always! I really hope the new game will have more info about the "in between" times, we already see a S'pht in the trailer (I wonder if its before M1 or they had the alliance with Durandal)

In the ARG the video of the S'pht is UESC Evidence file 1842 "Unknown Presence", that evidence appears to be reconnaissance drone footage collected by the UESC. There it is given the date 5/25/2893. Basically the farthest date shown into the future in relation to the upcoming game

i love the analysis but the random gameplay of something totally unrelated is beyond frustrating.

@@jakethealright nice, glad you took it constructively, as intended. Good luck

18:35 did you conflate volume with surface area?

haha possibly, my math skills are not great. What I was trying to say is that I assume that the majority of accessible areas of the Marathon are near to the surface of the moon itself. Most of the levels in Marathon 1 have windows where you can see out into space and the amount of underground habitable areas, I assumed, would probably at the most equate to the surface area of Deimos itself. To me, the hollowing out of Deimos is something that seemed primarily tied to the propulsion system given the layout we see in M1 and that the core of a moon would still be extremely hot. So in terms of trying to estimate the maximum population of Deimos could sustain (without a more detailed understanding of the technology being used) I proposed the surface area of 483 km2 as a more accurate number to work with, I then compared it a land mass on Earth with a similar surface area size 543 km2 (Guam). This might've been more confusing than helpful though, hopefully this clears up my thinking.

That is not how you pronounce CRIST.

fair, I think I view them as an allegorical device for the Martian people akin to Christ himself. The CRISTs give the resources required to sustain life to the Martian people and Jesus is viewed as this great giver. The failure or 'death' of the CRISTs seems to directly lead to the third Martian war, much like the unifying nature of religion for the purposes of war throughout history. There's also the savior not from this world aspect. This has led me to the 'Christ' pronunciation of the acronym but none of this makes it less annoying if you prefer something else haha
