You’re probably right concerning right of ways for cache placement it’s just important to find landmarks a person can remember that may even provide the owner of the gear a clue to easily remember by yeah with geocaching so prevalent it might be a bad idea in right of ways

I buried a small cache on my property a few years ago, I literally can’t find it. After digging at least 20 holes I gave up.
Lesson learned.
