The cat first assesses the level of threat, then analyzes its fight pattern. Then deems it as too slow and starts playing.

I think that if they are paired early in their lives, they are more likely to get along. After a number of years alone, they see the newcomer as an invader.
Again, I think it depends on the cat as opposed to a "blanket description." I've seen some senior cats accept a new comer where others don't. I've also seen two cats "co-exist". They don't' fight but they don't cuddle either. They just lead separate lives in one house. One's "territory" in one part of the house. The other has another part and they share the rest.

I guess he’s pretty desensitized to robots since they’ve been part of our lives since he was eleven months old. Romeo the Roboraptor didn’t worry him a bit, but Leche the Joy for All Companion Cat earned a few cautious woofs and an experimental sniff.

One of the most iconic toys ever
That was hilarious. When he first went to check it out and it moved....the jump that little guy made was hilarious. He's so curious yet so cautious. His one paw was always at the ready. I had a little orange kitten....little fuzzface. He was a little orange ball of fuzz. He was a head, a tail, and a ball of fuzzy. And he was curious of everything. He was also freaked out by everything. I remember a moth got in the house...it landed by a lamp in the living room. Sherbert snuck up on it.....being all stealthy....well the moth flapped its wings, Sherbert did a 180 degree flip in mid-air off the couch and onto the coffee table...from there he slipped off landed on the carpet and took off like a rocket. I laughed so hard. If you'd had seen that little goof. He looked like a cartoon. Where the ground disappears. Yet his little legs kept running at a thousand mph. 5 mins later I see his little face poking our from under the recliner...round 2. Needless to say the moth won. I finally got the moth outside..or my goofy fuzzball would have either had a heart attack of would have landed on his head from one of his flips. It would move the fuzzball would flip. I know that they always land on their feet...well when this little guys freaked out how he landed wasnt upright all the time. He was my little scaredy cat. During a thunderstorm he'd literally crawl under my shirt and hide. You could see his little face poke out by my neck. I really loved that little fuzzyface. He always slept with me and Bozo...my doggie. He was the runt...we had to hand feed him. But he survived and since I was the "mom" , I was his best buddy. So we were the 3 amigos...Me Bozo and Sherbertl were a team, back when I was 7-8.
