The Van's RV standard nose wheel has a tapered roller bearing. This results in significant rolling resistance of the tire, which causes the nose strut to buck on touchdown. I've changed my RV-9A nose wheel to a sealed ball bearing arrangement that is now frictionless. This video demonstrates the before and after behavior of the nose strut. The video has landings with the ball bearing setup at 3 different airports to show the dramatic improvement in strut stability during landing. Clearly is a significant improvement.
