Get over it. Still has a great sound. The AUS model in this review is an odd spec. My windows don’t make any odd noises, there is no hard plastics as he mentions and the piano plastic is real carbon fiber in the US. There are heaps of oddities with the car. The display is not touch sensitive, which is annoying. The cup holders are small and share space with the center console. As he notes, limited storage. Also, we have a rear facing child seat in the back and it requires the passenger front seat to be moved way up. Maybe it’s just the key fit car seat I have. No idea. Otherwise, the car is epic. Super quick. The navigation and adaptive instrument cluster is great. Definitely an upscale feel, fit, and finish. I get a lot of looks and comments from people when I’m out and about. Despite the oddities, I would buy this car again.

I've got a 2020 SQ5 Special Edition TDI. This has the carbon Fibre Interior, a 21 speaker surround sound and Massaging Seats, the diesel does sound less sporty but gives 700Nm apposed to the TFSI 500Nm and with the 48V Mild Hybrid System the TDI can get as low as 5.3L per 100km which is damn good for a Performance SUV. The newer editions also come with a Wireless charging pad. I did own the previous 2016 Q5 till i replaced it and Yes the depreciation was steep but it does seem to depreciate as a lower in the S model rather than the base model. The Special Edition with the TDI has depreciated approximately $10,000 in the last 3 years which is promising since there is a much more limited spectrum of Special Edition SQ5s available in the 2017 to 2020 edition.

Great review on really the best way to buy german. Here in the states these Q5’s and Sq5’s are not having near as many issues and pricing is much better, used 2018 for about $35-40k

The "mechanic" is clueless. The Q5 is an entirely different engine and transmission. None of which would relate to the SQ5 in any way. Your newer B9 S4 review clearly shows this, as that's the same powertrain.
@@ReDriven He listed just about every mechanical component in the vehicle and said they could all go wrong without actually giving any real sense on what to look out for or what the most common issues are. Basically just scared anyone into not purchasing this vehicle based off his vague and blanketed claims. If these are all true and inevitable issues with this vehicle then it's just not worth it to purchase in any scenario. Having said that I know a bunch of people with B9 era Audis all running strong for 70, 80, 90k miles on the clock. Buying a used one with 15-25k on the odometer shouldn't be as scary as its being made to seem.
Last week at petrol station, a gentleman next to me filled up one of these with 91 fuel, had a chat with the owner, he said being able to run fine on 91 is the reason he bought this car, amazing.
Which country? 91 in Australia (and most of world) is different from 91 in USA. If he's running it on 91 RON he's going to damage the engine as they're designed to run on 95 RON minimum. If he's running it on 91 AKI, is that amazing? I'm betting he looked it up online and read that 91 is ok... not realising most online references are for USA AKI octane.
I love how they were like “an SQ5 is closely related to the Q5, here’s a piston from a Q5”. Ah yes, a piston from a completely different engine 😂 Other than that, great video. I picked up my 2018 B9 SQ5 Prestige with 52k on the clock about 4 months ago, $36k. Best car for the money.
That mechanic segment was terrible. He doesn’t even know what transmission is in the SQ5 and the engines aren’t even remotely related. Even the presenter said it was a torque converter not a DSG.
I heard the mechanic state the interior rattle coming from somewhere. Nothing new on these SUV’s. The subframe above the sunroof is more than likely causing the interior noise. With the acoustic windows, that sound is the sunroof. Grease it and that noise will go away. I deal with this every other month and had my subframe replaced twice. Annoying! This thing is a great joy to drive with 034 motor sport subframe mounts, the chassis and the shell are in sync and the vehicle sounds solid. Away goes your rattles. These things are a shear of joy. Not to mention, throttle controller, stage 1-2 tune on E85 pump, your B9 becomes worth the money and becomes night and day at 500 crank, 480 HP. These are the new street beef sport SUV’s.
Great review, spot on on the rear rattle. Still have my 2017 and only just had the rear left rattle fixed after having the local dealer look several times. The rear glass roof panel had to be removed for the second time and finally have a very quite cabin. The dealer thought it was also coming from the rear seat so had that removed once but never fixed the noise. I had people in the back when it did become worse and they said defiantly was coming from the roof. Apparently a drain tube wasn't secured, what ever it was is now sorted. Both my front window are quiet going up and down so not sure the noise is a common issue.
Can't believe I haven't found this channel earlier. In the last few days I've spent hours of research on the sq5, but I've gotta admit this video puts everything else to shame
LOL I just purchased a SQ5 2018. The first comment to my wife was about the stupid phone tray! Only had it for a few days and I am looking at an extended warranty after the factory runs out in 10 months. Great review! Cheers!
I had one a 2018, for 4 years, lovely lovely car, went like nothing else but it had ridiculous costs for oil leaks and other mechanical wear n tear, that I don't should of appeared for a car u under 100,00km. don't get one!
Had the uk version from new until 2020 and tbh it's the worst Audi I've owned. More recalls than you can shake a tick at (18 months until they sorted the clunky brake pedal to name but one) then there were numerous intermittent electronic faults that Audi could never pinpoint. Chucked it in for the new 2021 S3 and that so far it is what German engineering should be... on point 👌 Lease a brand new one that way you know exactly the cost and don't need to care about depreciation Great review you nailed it
Wow Marcus, that's bloody horrible to read mate. Just not good enough. Quick question and something we'd love to know for future videos, even though you had so many issues, you still stuck with Audi. Were you tempted to go to a different brand at all? What kept you loyal to Audi? Thanks for the kind words too mate.
@@ReDriven I guess it was the way they dealt with the problems, my Audi dealer bent over backwards to help fix the problems whilst working around my needs. As the saying goes you don't know how good they are until you need them. Cars are so complicated now, I guess the new plant had teething problems. Just make sure if your buying German engineering that it actually made in Germany is my best advice. Plus the actual Brand I guess I'm kind of Badge loyal, wonder how many people who buy on choice as much as price would say that ?
@@msp5616 So great to hear the dealership were excellent mate. In the research we do for all our videos, we hear some true horror stories. Thanks for the feedback too. One of our goals is to hopefully encourage dealerships to focus on the after sales attitudes towards cars that aren't new.
@@zippzappzipp I didn't say depreciation didn't exist smart ass. I said you don't need to care about it, as your repayments are set thus not having to care what the market does
My driver's door window was noisy and then stopped halfway. The dealer (UK) changed the "winding" cable under warranty and explained that they had fitted an upgrade.
@@iTzJustConnorxD Yeah, they ditched the S-tronic DSG for the SQ5 from 2012 onwards when they discovered it wasn't as reliable especially with the extra torque.
The window mechanism was the subject of a recall. Should be replaced no problem by the dealer. The rattle is probably the panoramic sunroof. They need to be cleaned by the dealer from time to time. Not sure why you mention DSG problems. This car doesn't have a DSG.
I'll let the owner know it should be a recall issue, thanks for the heads up on that. The rattle seemed to be coming from a lower area, almost at the base of the rear seat? And we felt that with how many catastrophic DSG issues we see, it's important to mention as some people may be shopping for an SQ5 but end up buying something else from the VAG stable and we're getting sick of seeing people breaking down in tears when they're told they're up for thousands of dollars to repair their blown gearbox.
Nice car when new but eye watering expensive when it goes wrong, My next door neighbor had one, he loved it but the repair costs killed it, eg: rear air shocks are $3500ea, he needed a pair and then his gearbox failed, that was $18,000, and apparently there is a computer or control module for the gearbox that you can only access when the gearbox is out and is prone ro failure, so was advised to change aswell, another $1800! These are not dealer prices either, thats a euro specialist that had serviced the car from new. He gave up and traded in on a Mazda cx90 and got a whooping $12,000 trade in.
The rattle is coming from the misaligned pano sunroof. Our car has been in numerous times for this and it’s now finally been resolved after 2 years…our next car will NOT have a pano full stop!
Wondering where they are hearing that this car has issues or is less reliable than other cars in general. I’m not expecting Toyota reliability but all the blog posts, consumer reviews and testing sites all say this is a very reliable car.
Oh Mike apologies if we’ve given the impression that the issues mentioned happen on all examples. These are purely the more common issues that CAN arise. Many examples, especially when well maintained don’t have a drama. - AK

@@dylanholland5098 I honestly recommend it. She's got good power and handling. The only thing that kind off threw me off is the transmission. I'm coming out of a 16 A3 which has duel clutch, so the car feels smooth while gear changing. With the SQ5, I can feel that tiny slight delay. But the more I drive it, the more I get used to it.
@@jaysullivan8350 I appreciate it, I’m coming from a 16 Q5 that drives so smooth I love it but it just hit 100k and the maintenance bills will be coming so I’m getting out of it while I can. The SQ5’s just look so clean and I like the idea of getting into a V6 3.0 instead of the Q5’s V4 2.0

Can you please explain or give me something on this question? The Q5 Prestige ( basically a hot chic in mom jeans) fully loaded vs SQ5 Prestige (the pin up model calendar girl)? Will I see a remarkable difference in fun factor, maintenance, or is it a wash? The Q5s are sitting at about 35k USD and SQ5 hit 42-46k. That's the Big Question!!! Thank you for your help and listening to my plea. 😎😂
Ok, great question. On a day to day basis and driving normally, they feel near identical. However, the moment you put that right foot down, the SQ5 comes alive. If the extra expenditure makes little to no difference in your ability to live (pay food, clothing, rent, bills etc), buy the SQ5. If buying the SQ5 really stretches you budget, stick with a Q5. Personally, I think the SQ is worth it but I test cars for a living and crave vehicles that can perform where as I have friends that would be more than happy with the performance of a standard Q5. Maintenance costs should be around about the same but obviously fuel consumption may be higher on the SQ5 as you'll more encouraged to drive it harder. Hope this helps. - AK

I'm betting he looked it up online and read that 91 is ok... not realising most online references are for USA AKI octane.
if he gets on the throttle it will pull timing to stop it detonating and will have its power cut back quite severely.

I love how they were like “an SQ5 is closely related to the Q5, here’s a piston from a Q5”.
Ah yes, a piston from a completely different engine 😂
Other than that, great video. I picked up my 2018 B9 SQ5 Prestige with 52k on the clock about 4 months ago, $36k.
Best car for the money.
Yeah weird, and no mention of whether from a diesel or petrol/gas Q5.
"That's what she said" x 2..........Gold. Worth a subscription right there, and a like.
That mechanic segment was terrible. He doesn’t even know what transmission is in the SQ5 and the engines aren’t even remotely related. Even the presenter said it was a torque converter not a DSG.
Thanks!
Haha the several references 'That's what she said' haha PMSL🤣 Great review!
Cheers mate, wrapped to hear your car is sorted now too.
Noisy electric window probably caused by after market tint.
Can't believe I haven't found this channel earlier. In the last few days I've spent hours of research on the sq5, but I've gotta admit this video puts everything else to shame
Ah thanks so much mate. - AK
Diesel or Petrol ??? which is better to buy ?
Chucked it in for the new 2021 S3 and that so far it is what German engineering should be... on point 👌
Lease a brand new one that way you know exactly the cost and don't need to care about depreciation
Great review you nailed it
Wow Marcus, that's bloody horrible to read mate.
‘Not care about depreciation’ - mate if you’re leasing you are paying that depreciation in advance lmao
Definitely helping me decide. I'm looking at a 2018 Q5 2.0L 4 Cyclinder, and comparing it to the 2017 SQ5 3.0L 6 cylinder. Tough decision to make...
Went with the 2018 Q5 😊
Loving it so far. I feel what you mentioned about the jerking transmission between gears 1-3
@@iTzJustConnorxD Yeah, they ditched the S-tronic DSG for the SQ5 from 2012 onwards when they discovered it wasn't as reliable especially with the extra torque.
i swear to god, you are fucking hilarious mate. funnier than most stand up comedians i have seen in a minute. thank you brother, much love
Would love to see a review of a sq7 diesel monster!
I have one coming up for sale through work soon. Well maintained and at a dealer trade in price.. but this video just put me off! Thanks mate. :/
What watch are you wearing?
Audis are undeniably beautiful and undeniably unreliable.
What about fuel ? How much % ?
Is year 2009 Audi Q5 2.0 Quattro still worth to buy?
Great video, I was gonna buy one but since seeing this changed my mind
Agreed. Reliability still an issue. Benz super reliable and more comfy but not as fun to drive
Nice car when new but eye watering expensive when it goes wrong,
My next door neighbor had one, he loved it but the repair costs killed it, eg: rear air shocks are $3500ea, he needed a pair and then his gearbox failed, that was $18,000, and apparently there is a computer or control module for the gearbox that you can only access when the gearbox is out and is prone ro failure, so was advised to change aswell, another $1800!
Ah thanks so much for that Lee. I'll let the owner know. - AK
I was going to get one. The initial cost seemed alright? I am just not that rich.
Like BMW and Mercedes, they are nice but expensive when things need fixing.
I’m planning to buy a Q5 2018 this car has at least 110125 miles on it can anybody tell me something about it please that would be helpful 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
The mechanic lists issues with the q5 engine and gearbox which has nothing to do with the sq5.
I have the same year Q5 and I get that rattling noise too
Get that seen to mate. - AK
I like the nets for the fish.
- AK
@@ReDriven appreciate the clarification!

Great review!! Thank you!
My sq5 2018 is out of warranty , mileage 85000 km and oil change revealed a lot of metal debris in the oil filter and oil itself , I purchased it new in 2018 only drive , not warning light in the dashboard , is anyone has same problem
Everyone should buy them!! Keeps us mechanics well paid when it goes bad, it will and it will cost you lots!!
How many sq5’s have you repaired?

dsg problems? it's a zf my guy.
Really enjoyed the presentation 👌
Oh thanks mate.
I literally got a 2019 SQ5 at 40k miles and she drives lovely... Except for that rattling/clunking sound I get in the back whenever I go over bumps. I'm going crazy to find the issue and rectify it.
I’m likely about to buy a 2019 SQ5 myself. Car has 37,000k on it are you happy with your purchase so far? Would you recommend it to a TH-cam stranger
@@dylanholland5098 😂😂I understand exactly what you're saying. I used to love to drive my gf's Q5, which is what led me to get the SQ5. After getting my car, I drove her car one day and was like "nah, this ain't it". I mean, the Q5 feels the same as the SQ5 as in luxury and comfort, but the SQ5 is quicker and sounds so good...
@@jaysullivan8350 exactly that lmfao I love my Q5 but I want that with more balls. Seems like the SQ5 is the right fit

Great unbiased review! I had a '15 Q5 3.0T and I thought the controls/dashboard were rock-solid. Maybe Audi has gone cheap?
Cheers Louis! Well it's not exactly German anymore.
Except the mechanic and presenter couldn’t agree on which transmission it has. DSG or torque converter?
That's what she said😂😂😂 ok you instantly my favorite car reviewer
You're too kind! - AK
I’ve got to admit, I’m a little bummed. This one was on my radar.
Oh Tommy, if you're in the financial position to make it make sense, they're maybe one of the all time best "does it all" vehicles, truly impressive. But, if buying one stresses the bank account at all, hmmmmm.
@@ReDriven well my bank account isn’t that big but I’m looking for an SUV that drives like my GTI. And I definitely can’t afford a Macan
I bought a 2015 SQ5. Love it.
@@tommyclarke3225 This might sound like an odd one but check out the Ford Kuga/Escape with the 2.0-litre Petrol Ecoboost engine. It's basically a smaller displacement Focus RS engine. All Wheel Drive, lovely interior, practical and genuinely fun to drive.
@@tommyclarke3225 then buy an SQ5 :) You wont be disappointed. Ps. its quick alright !
Depreciation? They hold their value big time. Just have a look at carsales. And as for all the issues the mechanic claimed? Based on what? How many would he see? I'd be hitting up forums to get a better idea. This is a very superficial review and opinion video
i hate to sound cliche BUT "as a woman looking to buy this now" please help. I WANT this car! I'm an American here in Germany and love driving fast on the abahn. But is this car worth it? I am yet to test drive it but sat in both Q5 and SQ5. I am stuck either paying 25k US for a typical car saying to myself, don't be stupid and waste 45k on this "fun mobile" yet my bad girl side is saying. lol HAVE FUN screw the rest, and forget all reason. I'm looking at 2018 models for affordability, it was when the new modeled version came out, and cause i don't want the drive off show room floor depreciation. i am looking to have this car for the duration so resale isn't my main concern. Maintenance cost is! I just junked a 2009 Passat that I loved so I'm willing to take and keep these babies (my baby) until she can no longer breathe.
- AK

The 1st gen SQ5 looks way better, having said that, I would never own a high performance Audi (S, RS) simply because I can't afford to service it to a level that it can be reliable.

I'm looking to buy an SQ5, I can afford it, but its whether or not long term I can put put with spending 100 quid every 2 weeks on fuel, or if something goes wrong when you can just buy say an ordinary Q5... I'm not exactly sure if there is much in them in terms of maintenance.
We'd dare say the SQ5 may offer may offer a better long term experience Lewis. - AK

And yes nothing like a Volkswagon.
