Tom should get with phantom and get high-speed Camaras. Maybe a camera for the valve springs and a camera for the tires... The tire camera could be used for AI traction control.
@@Sharkey_t kind of takes it away even more then if it's a limited to just them cars in drag week, I thought it was a street car record not a limited event record.
Tom, 2 things I saw watching multiple times. The squat of those tires is slightly more than the full collapse of the rear suspension allowing the trailing bars to contact the tarmac. Each time the tires would shake. It like as the reaction starts to rise, the traction returns causing an accordion affect. The same reaction appears to happen at the 1-2 shift as well. It is very subtle, but definitely enough to upset the traction geometry. Perhaps slowing the bottom-out speed a touch might allow the sidewall to fully grab and react without that subtle recoil. On Aiden's car, check the frame ahead of the rear axle, it might be bowing a degree or so through the midsection of the frame adding to that bounce affect. It's difficult to see for sure, but the last run looked like the mid section was slightly arched at the launch. That would definitely drive the rebound affected down the track. Very cool testing.🤙
That tire shake you were talking about - I thought the car was going to go into full-fledged tire rattle. Whew!! The Bailey ass-o- meter is more sensitive than that hi-flautin’ electronic instrumentation.
Man a high speed camera would definitely show way more info than what you’re using but u still learn a lot this way too. Love seeing that wall wrinkle up
@11:09 we hear Tom say (talking about Aiden),, "He has NO EMOTION what-so-ever." Well Tom,, many of us remember years and years ago (long before Tom started his own channel) Fred or Kyle at 1320 interviewing YOU after a blistering FAST and QUICK run YOU had ZERO emotion as well. Aiden is EXACTLY like his Dad when on camera. That old saying "Like Father, Like Son" is true. 🙂
I remember that Fred interviewed him 3 times when he was trying to run a 5 for Rocky mountain race week I think Tom ran 5.99 with a 8 the first to do it
Valid point! I remember Tom at some of the first drag weeks and also noticed how stoic he was. At first I thought he might be a cocky a..hole but quickly learned that was just his super low key personality. Amazing how much he has grown in front of the camera!
Not everyone will get the opportunity to test a variety of tires , but you can document and record all of your runs down different tracks, conditions and setup's. A big thanks to Tom and all the great companies that support the growing drag and drive community. In a small way, drag racing is returning to its grass roots. Like myself ,if you've ever dreamed about the reality of "Two Lane Blacktop" you now have the opportunity to live it. And that's a big deal for both the older and new generation of drag racer's.
The video is perfectly fine, I had no idea the videographer wasn't there until Tom said anything about it lol. The only thing that would have been better is shooting in a higher frame rate so the slowmo would be smoother, but other than that the video was great 👍.
@Tom, see if they can develop a tire that doesn't need a burnout that reacts to the heat already in the track for those Hot days when surfaces temps get above 100 degrees.
Thanks for sharing this, I like this kind of content. You're right it is a big deal to be invited to test stuff like this, and someone has to do it. I know a lot of work goes into making the pieces of a racing slick come together, that's one place where the art, science, & engineering combine... and we all just beat the crap out if them. If they could make bias & radial DOT frontrunners in larger rim sizes while getting the cost down, I bet DND racers would start putting them on trailers too... as spares, of course.
is it just me, or does it look like the tire kissed the front of the quarter on 2.0? It even looks like the wrap was peeled out a little bit on the next to last pass... two badass cars though, and NOTHING is going to be greater than looking back on this father and son time!
Production quality was fine, it was reminiscent of OG Tom videos :) Hope to see you at DragWeek again this year... I can't see you skipping the "20th" year of the event.
You got good video for not doing on a regular basis! One tip if you test again, keep the sun to your back and or increase the exposure. Was awesome to watch
Mount a go_pro to watch the tire(s) ? At some speed, the centripetal force increases the diameter (200 mph?). That bounce frequency related to wheel speed? Possibly, the wrinkle frequency or a fraction thereof is the source of the bounce?
Interesting video! Re: Aiden’s car I’m curious if any consideration was given to running that “hybrid radial” tire with more of a radial tire set up ? Clearly the car has trouble getting enough wheel speed with that little LS and the car being pretty heavy. You said the plan was to stick the tire and drive it out like a radial. Why not run the car with anti squat and extend the rear and see what happens? Might get rid of that porpoising the car is going right now. Just a thought. I don’t know that tire so I could be full of s…!
Hey I build those in Akron. Do you by chance know the name on the tire? I don't personally build the drag tires often but it would be cool to show the person who built them the video. I build more of the radials.
I could see the shake and i wonder why you were not talking about it. As you said at the end of the video the data log was not recording it. The last pass are you sure you din't chicken footed it? The brake lights come on be for the shoot are out? JK 😂😂😂😂
Steve Morris found out that he needs to run the Simpson parachutes (12 x 4) and they will stop the car even without brakes. This is what "Skinny Kid" told him because he ended up the in pea gravel also.
just a surjection maybe when you have the people with you. where you hit the 1 2 shift have a camera down there to see if you can catch something going on. that your data isn't catching.
Same company, I know, but I can say a couple of things for sure. I’ve gone through 2 sets of Duratracs on my ram, good tires but sketchy on water. Around the end of this winter I put some Baja Boss AT LTs on, better on water for sure. Overall the Bajas are, in my opinion, a better tire. I drive 14 hours one way for work sometimes and I love these tires, but not sure how the front end feels about them yet.
CURIOUS I noticed when your tires started paddling your wheelie bars where still in full contact, that make me think about two things "spring rate" [soft] rebound not enough [rear] front rebound too much. Yes I know this is arm chair BS, but the slow mo was good and that is what I use for my final tunes, otherwise pretty darn good for a street car. Just a thought
Good Year tires are junk. Had them on my daily. I install them on H.D.D. Truck"s, the wear is terrible .vibration complaints. I hope they figure something out.
What I'm probably never going to understand is, why are these multivalve coilover 4-links set up as they were leaf spring cal-tracks or rigid rear frame? What's the point of having a TT billet, if you're using as much as tunnel ram BB can produce? What are these extra parts for? Deuce box is wheelieing, bcz the lower bar is mounted under the lower frame rail and the bunny hop happened bcz the upper bar chassis mount is too close to the lower bar mount, making these 4 bars act like a ladder bar setup. Most likely some genius came with "instant roll center" type of nonsense, fixed the 4-link to push the buck under it's lowest point and jammed the shocks to create triangulated rigid frame, then let the air out so it would run on flats. Then pulled all the power out of it to make it hook again. And the 2.0.. holy rocker panel. That track must've had some serious glue. The 4-link was lifting the rear axle off the ground, the tire had no air in it, the only thing holding it on the surface was the glue. Both of these cars could easily use a slam setup, with the power level and tire size, they don't need to "weight transfer" if it bogs off the line, more boost and timing. If you don't believe me, believe Kevin Wilson. Also, I miss EJ.
The Sick decal is dope, however if you brought back the "sleeper" look. All black gloss with those rims you have, would actually be "sick af" sir 👌 please consider my comment❤

How bout that! Still miss EJ. I hope she's doing well out there.
yeah it has i forget the cars name, was not long ago i think it was a 5.76 around 270mph @quickdeuce

Really enjoyed the video these more technical videos don’t require all the cinematic touches glad to see both cats out and progress being made .
Looks like a really nice facility there, I like how the track is laid out.

2.0 is a freaking monster
Love the video - great summary and a really cool track owner. If I'm in the area, will definitely support the track.
The last pass with 2.0 the tire looked the best to my untrained eye.
Don't run down the video because it wasn't pro filmed. Heck with that who cares. Had a good time and recorded it. He'll yes I'm in. Good times.
