    I started to question myself why I paid so much to my uni? This video is so far the best one in detail and depth of writing LR. Thanks for the great information shared.

      You are paying so much for the piece of paper they give you at the end, you really do not need to go there to learn. I've often found myself asking the same question and it's a very high price too, smh.

    I came across this channel just 2 weeks and finding it everything informative & very useful. This is my first attempt at research with no experience at all. I am not a grad student either but doing this research as part of my job. It is reassuring to know that I am heading in the right direction as I have covered (done) much of what has been discussed but was finding it difficult to start on the structure for the summary.

    I am glad they said that Wikipedia is a good starting because it can help get the basics of an idea, and better yet check out the references because those can start you on the blazing trail to knowledge. The other added benefit is Wikipedia breaks an academic idea into every day language that allows academic knowledge to fill in the gaps in research. Knowing the basics allows someone to build their opinion and use discovered sources along the academic path towards.
    Here is a thought. I wonder how many times that PHD research can start here. Thank you

    • @Heyu7her3
      @Heyu7her3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It starts there now than people admit. And Wikipedia articles are typically written/ edited by scholars -- they're essentially lit reviews themselves

    GRAD I have a question: Is it not possible to write or do a research on something that wasn't ventured by anybody before... Can't I be the one to do something innovative for the first time? Is it that our research must always come from what's gone before? And for this one would be facing a problem of accessing primary resources at times.... Does this mean we have to abandon that particular topic?

    • @GradCoach
      @GradCoach  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's generally no rule that says you can't research something completely novel (although you should check with your university first). It's just that it's uncommon to find something that hasn't been researched at all before, unless its a completely new event. Even then, there's usually something adjacent that's been covered.

    Is it necessary that a literature review should be in a specific chapter, or it can be split through different chapters in the thesis.

    Excellent interview, thanks for sharing! How do you know when you have enough research for the literature review? Thanks!

    • @GradCoach
      @GradCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's difficult to say, as there's no fixed number you can aim for in terms of sources/references/word count. But as a rule of thumb, you should read/review literature until the point of saturation - in other words, until you don't find any new pieces of information that are relevant to your research questions, aims and objectives.

    First of all thaks so muchhh🌼🌼🌼🌼 Then, can you please explain why Google scholar is better? I saw that Scopous, Web of science, Science direct, Springer ,... have better and more practical options but not Google scholar. So what is your reason that Google scholar is better?

    • @GradCoach
      @GradCoach  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Google Scholar provides the widest view of available resources (as it indexes multiple databases and publications), so it's a good starting point. From there, you can dive deeper into the databases.

    If I find a topic which hasn't been explored much in my country (India), but alot of quality work has been done in Western countries , can I start my work on that topic or would it be plagiarism? Can I justify the originality of my work in a situation like this ? Please help me.

    • @GradCoach
      @GradCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plagiarism occurs when you draw on other people's work without citing the source. So, as long as you are referencing accurately, there is no risk of plagiarism.
      As for the justification of the work - generally you can justify research if it hasn't been done in a specific country. However, there'd need to be legitimate reasons as to why the existing research may not be relevant in that country (for example, cultural differences, demographic differences, etc).

    Excellent points, quality as usual. But Kerryn,sorry, notwithstanding your achievements and your experience, you really need to improve your ptresenting skills. The dissolving into giggles is both distracting and annoying. It might be a nervous thing, but it definitely is not an advantage. At the worst it reduces your credibility, i mean this in the context of a recorded 'chat' like this one. I have no doubt in a one on one situation its very encouraging and appropriate- but not here!
