- Old Japanese 4wd’s are the best !! You can keep you modern plastic rubbish!! Today we asses the growing Daihatsu f series collection
We start an F20 for the first time in years and come up with a cunning restoration plan!!!

My best friend had one when we were at Bicton College in the mid 90’s, he rebuilt it totally a year later with a 2.8td engine and painted it yellow, it was amazing. It’s still in the back of my barn and will come out again one day 🤞🏻
Old boy near me still floating about in his FourTrak he's had over 35 years!
Oh the memories I had a 2.5 diesel A reg F50 for a few years before I moved to Canada in 2000. I bought it from a friend who towed a 3 1/2 ton Ivor plant trailer with it. The engine and running gear was perfect, the body however you know the rest L.O.L I pulled the body completely welded or replaced the rotten bits with fiber glass like fenders /fuel tank, and repainted the frame and body. I used if for a service truck fixing equipment It was amazing how fast it'd go with the diesel and 5 speed. I had it in muddy rutted fields where others would get stuck or not want to try in a Range Rover I took a customer out to a tractor in that situation one day ,he was amazed at what he called "that pile" would do compared to his Range rover. I do actually miss that old girl still as it never did me any harm owning it . Take care.
They are fantastic little truck hopefully all going well we should be able to put two back on the road 👍
My weekend is complete…. Cracking vid fellas!
LOL at the white Range Rover Sport remarks, my mother in law has a white Overfinch that has the exact same vibe about it!
I still can't believe that the Japanese copied our products, refined them to almost bombproof standards and sold them back to us for cheap. I started the motor trade at the 20th Nissan dealer to open in the UK, proper old skool setup. The workshop did servicing 90% of the time, the rest was sales prep and the stores was the size of a broom cupboard because nothing went wrong with them. It's a shame that nothing is built like that anymore.
Learned to drive in an F60 in the late 90’s. Must of only been 15 years old at the time but the body had already dissolved and the steering box and rear spring hangers tore off the chassis at times too. Nothing wrong with the 2.8 diesel though so with a space frame cage from mad max it was a great farm hack. Much more grunt than a series landy, though much easier to tip over and far more rotten than the landy nearly 3 times its age (though Rover Co era landys were much better build quality than the later ones) - no wonder they were once a popular engine donor. Still have a series landy but would love to drive one of these again - must have been 10 years since I last saw one in any condition let alone roadworthy so this one’s gonna be a great series.
15:20 I thought that was the ghost of a monk shuffling out of the building. 😂
I thought it was the Grim Reaper. 🤣
Engine runs but your enthusiasm to get it back on the road has no bounds, that thing is a Shile of Pite.
I forgot you had that old peugeot pick up with the canvas back, I just love the look of it
Hey "Muckah" is a south London phrase... O.o BTW haven't wandered over as you said you was busy and I am prob going to rust paint the Reliant, I am damp proofing the old thing at the mo, bought a massive 750ml can of trade WD sort o' stuff off ebay as she was running like a pig but a good spraunce with the stuff and she be running like a champ once again. Stereo has given up the ghost, one of them cheapie £5 USB playing devices but heck its 5 years old which is unheard of in Chinese terms and paid a fiver for its replacement hehehe I will be bringing over a Saxon watch, these were made when the chaps at the Trabant factory were on down time and was made in the same factory by the same people who made your Trabant. Its windup and traditional to hang ones Saxon watch from the mirror of said Trabant and you would wind it up as and when keeping your Soviet Vostok for on your wrist :) (No east german would wear a Saxon on the wrist lol) New tyres fitted tomorrow, I have had 8 years of advisory on the MoT saying tyres were old (but legal) but easier to just comply than cross ply oops typo there and they hit me with an "oily engine" minor and I am like its a nearly 40 year old motor but I got a big 5 gallon of Jizer which will sort that out :) If you ever need advice on 3 wheelers, you can get my email address off my channel if we don't meet up first as I am hoping to get a visit with your neighbour Mr Ritchie as I have some stories to tell him too :D
Fudge looked like the Grim Reaper sneaking up on you Al.
Those Daihatsus look like they'll be fun. Yes, I noticed the elusive Project Amber man in the background.
80s was best era for basic workhorse 4x4s never see them days again if they didn’t rust we be still driving them now. Had few troopers mk1/2s
@28.20, I thought Fudge was going to put your cup of tea in the radiator 😂😂
Some more great content Al, sounds like a great project for another day like you said, put on the back burner for some time in the future, I just sold my Caravan today, a bessacarr cameo 390 SLE, bit Hart wrenching as I had her since 2017 but I simply had 0 use for it, just sitting in carpark rotting, it went to a homeless guy living in a tent, so all good causes, helping him out in the hight of winter, 😊
Is the "6" in 6d Diesels the number of Daihatsu F20s in various states of repair you're going to end up with?😂Classic "will it run and move" content again!👍
Great video. Did the owner of the Robin proud, well done. Amazing channel ❤
WE owned the F20 1.6 petrol and F50 2.5d, brilliant jeeps, made our own fuel tanks as they rotted out and turned down scaffold pipe to slip inside rear chassis for the front part of the spring mounts, but boy did they rot🤣
I had an F20 at the start of secondary school (1999/2000)
Non runner, rear o/s chassis leg collapsed. Just sat in the corner of my parents yard.
Scrapped it, never heard it run but it was more or less complete
Not many around now. First vehicle I drove on the fields as a kid was a f55 pickup, haven’t seen another since. Would love another. Owned plenty of the later fourtraks, still got a f70 van 😊
Just noticed the new hoodie logo,, Trabant appreciation society , love it 🙂
Best 4x4 I ever had til I killed it driving it along Bournemouth beach whilst the old bill ran up and down the road bit, the salt water got into the tender bits and had the chassis rails for dinner and first thing I knew about it was when going over a speed hump the back broke on the poor thing. It was a former military Lada Niva, on a A prefix plate and driven from a military clearance site in Russia all the way to Holland where it got "EU'd" enough for the owner to then drive it to the UK. Man that thing despite it being a 1700cc engine could pull, I used to go down Matchams banger nites and help folks trailer away dead ducks and my borrowed trailer was a clutch killer for anything else even a 2 litre Sierra it murdered the clutch on it but the Niva just yanked it away like nothing was there. It used to take Trent's own bangers to various meets this was in 94 thinking as been a while lol I used to get an extra barrel of reclaimed petrol for the privilege, free fuel was free fuel and I loved working at Trent's as it was free tyres, free car stereos and a barrel or two of free jungle juice, ol' John Trent who knew I was a man and boy scrapman took me on the spot putting me on middle ramp but alas a series of maladies and accidents including a whole ramp coming down on a hand, then getting it almost snipped off by an electric window motor I was left crippled in both hands for a long time :( Back in 2000, if you ever bought a motor in West Howe... that was likely me and me mate, we were turning over 30 cars a week and pissing the council off mightily then I got married and the missus wanted me to get a "proper" job and that was the end of a hugely lucrative business, I was in Charminster last monday and sitting in the pub a chap walks up to me and asks was I the bloke who used to sell cars and we had a right ol' chinwag despite it being 25 years since he bought a couple from us :)
My 2 favourite channels on the same video! Made for a perfect Sunday morning. Great content Al, keep-her-chappin bud👍
One thing I have always been sad I never got from my scrapyard owning uncle, was his magical "sparks" box which was an ex tank device in it flooded the ignition with a ton of sparks and with judicious moving of toggle switches you could get it to spark fairly right whatever the engine it was as you could advance and retard so it fired off a bit later or on the nose having a automotive coil built into it. Mains powered too so no weaky wishy washy angry pixies and he always called it the resurrection box as it could get virtually anything up and running whether it was a Ford Essex V6, a Jag V12/straight six then he would have me listen with the ol' screwdriver stethoscope as he was a bit deaf due to ahem playing with reduced length shotguns which was his "hobby" like running into banks and ahem making a "withdrawal". He taught me to drive, taught me to shoot and taught me how to fix motors although I never did the post office relieving of funds thing but when I joined the army I earned my crossed rifles during basic as I scored a perfect run thanks to me uncle :)
lovely little wagons those 👏👏
Absolutely love your cunning plans. Looking forward to when these are slotted into your schedule. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Love the cunning daihatsu plan❤❤😂😂
Great video Al and Fudgy! Gotta love the reliable Japanese vehicles!
Love that ignition key @ "3:02" 😂 and the free advertising for Salisbury City Council ❤😊
Well done Al and fudgy great to hear the old diahatsu running been a long time since seen one my friends dad used to sell them new!
I had a 1979 f20 in the eighties, the 1.6 petrol was a Toyota engine as used in the hiace van, my first 4x4 great fun.
BIG fan of this content 👌
Thought that was project amber in background of last video I was right.
Cracking treasures. Would love one. Great video 😊
When you think of all the faffing to get electronics to talk on the engine conversion project, versos just tying a few wires up here and there on this, it just goes to show what we've lost with vehicles, simplicity, where you don't need to have a degree in neuroscience just to get an engine to fire up... :)
Back in the day when I was a yts spanner monkey, i worked for a daihatsu dealer,i only remember 1 f20,everyone else had f50,the farmers and game keepers loved them, and literally overnight when the f70 came out, the 20/50 almost disappeared overnight, they rusted, but not that quick
Cracking video as always. The Daihatsu ticked over lovely after a little bit of fettling and a good drop of sniff. Can’t wait to see the BMW beast get worked on.
Nice one Al and Fudge. Fudge looked a bit cold 😂😂
We have been keeping him out of the weather, if he get’s too cold he’ll start to look like death himself!! As he just proved in this video 😂😂😂
@6DDIESELSDorset 😂😂😂
Once went to weld a patch on a Fiat 90-90 tractor cab.
Job done, I found that the two flexible brake pipes were now pouring out fluid....
It was then it dawned on me that a rubber mounted cab doesn't transmit current very well, and I had the earth lead clamped on the chassis...
Im looking for to watch you do them.Good on you for helping CJ out.
Truffaut filmed 'Day for Night', but you had a cunning plan to go one better and film 'Night for Day'! Enjoyed every moment, and looking forward to the next instalment on the Daitw@su collection👍👍👍
Good one Al , I couldn’t keep up with you though with how many daihatsus you were making 😒 but it is midnight , 🇪🇸
Smashing Al, the old farmer down the road from us used to have four of them. Great bits of kit.
Great plan to get two good ones and a toy to play with
Great episode, topped off with a
guest appearance from Marty Feldman as Igor from The Young Frankenstein?
When your motors get to the trying to start point I get the same exited feeling I used to get fixing my own Bangers back in the day! Proper old school mechanicing, a rare thing these days😁Learned to drive on the farm in and Red F Series called Bessie! (40 years ago🤯)
Great vid as always Al👍
Fantastic I use to ride round in a red F20 with a white hard top back on the farm at home 👍

Al, I've just begun watching this, and I'm struggling because Fudge is walking about like a bollocked youth with his hood up and arms folded. There's also a man floating about with a dog 🤣🤣
Many strange things happen here 😂😂😂👍
@6DDIESELSDorset I can thoroughly get on board with strange happenings al 🤣🤣👍

I like them old Daihatsu 🙂 had a fourtrak many moons ago when I was 19, it turned to dust 😂
@@hammondo7 my owd fellow had a fourtrak he sold it to group of friendly gentlemen in 2005 unbeknownst to him these gentlemen that evening had gone on to commit an armed robbery and as my farther was still liable for the vehicle he was rudely awakened by some angry policeman in the early hours, we did however have some incredible journeys before that 🤣🤣
Being a Toyota hiace engine it will start
👏🏻Great job done how do you do it getting all the jobs done 🤯 keep up with what your doing great video 🫶🏻👏🏻

RAO 334X registered all the way up here near me in Cumbria. Great to see.
Yes indeed we dragged her down from Lancashire around Christmas 👍
Thanks again
Always a pleasure 👍
Best phrase a man could hear..."you wanna coffee Al?" 😂 although I did think it was some hoodlum wandering loose in the background at first 🤣🤣
A bit of a task but could you wangle another bodyshell onto the petrol chassis? 4wd Allegro or something just as ludicrous 🤣🤣
I am no expert, but...
I reckon it needs an headlight bulb and some new windscreen wipers for the MOT?
Minor stuff 😂😂😂👍
Good video.
Sat in me truck at ‘Cobham ESSO Services’ on the A2 about to start eating M and S classic fruit salad and double cream whilst watching 6D Diesels..
Who is that mystery guy with flat cap on 🤫 is lance running about
Another fab offering my good man.... doing / attending any shows this year, where a lady and his lordship may spot you?
We are definitely going to FOTU and hopefully a few more, I’ll have a work out and drop you a list madam 👍
@6DDIESELSDorset then I will finally get my hug 🫂 🤗
@@lou-dicrous indeed don’t think I’ve seen you guys since rustival?
@6DDIESELSDorset you haven't, otherwise you would have already been hugged lolol Rustival was me being shy lololol
Nice n safe! 😂
It is good for old girl get it back on the road
Looking at the square piece on the b pillar, can you remove the roof?
Yes indeed they go totally flat deck 👍
@6DDIESELSDorset just looked a video again, doors are one piece, when flat deck, can you get half height doors like willys?
There used to be one round here. The bloke failed his mot on chipped windscreen and washer jets. He went back the next day for a clean sheet with no roof, doors or windscreen 😂
Complaint that I am learning Dorsetshire and you called the' carbutooter' a 'carburetor'. Can we make sure you stick to the language I am trying to learn on 6D 's channel please as going to classic car meets, I point out carbotooters , much to peoples raised eyebrows :)
More top content ❤ 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🤩

Damn but you’re good. Is there anything automotive that a man cannot turn his hand to?
Prof Al and Dr Fudge strike again ….
Christ I haven’t heard or used that turn of phrase about the actress and the bishop with many a year when everyone became politically correct!
Is that that P.c thing we aren’t very good at ? 😂😂
@ yes and thanks be to Christ that you aren’t. Far more sporting . Great video.
