I'm not so sure about him "fitting in today" - for me, his stuff look like it's from the late 80's and early 90's, and like it couldn't have been done at any other time. Im glad you think it doesn't look out of place today, as his stuff is great.
Keith Haring garnered nuff respects from graffiti writers in NYC because he was "All City". This is a term given to someone whose tags or drawings appeared in every borough, on every subway station in the city. I was a teenager, growing up in NYC when I started noticing the chalk drawings in almost every subway station blackboard advertising spaces and wondered who was that, and thinking this person is up everywhere. He definitely was All City.
Keith Haring was such an amazing artist, he really inspired me. My teacher always frowned upon my art style but hey who got accepted at the art academy of Breda? Not Hitler lol.
My favorite artist. Such raw energy! I just wish I could afford one. Every time I drive by "Crack is Whack" on the FDR, I pause for a split second of admiration.
What a great Era I passed through I remember seeing Keith drawing in the subway system for years where I was a student at hard to college I may have even seen him once in the act of drawing one of the murals himself. I feel bad for artist today you haven’t experienced the magic that we experience back in the 80s
Just watched this 2018 Jan. 29 episode of Antique Roadshow. One of Keith Haring's NYC subway drawing on black wall paper was featured; the partner of the owner removed it from the subway wall and kept it all these years. So it's really exciting to find this video showing him in action :)
So many talented young men died from AIDS. I loved the 80’s But it was very cruel. I lost a lot of amazing friends. I have a wall of their pictures framed and hanging on my wall. The wall is 24ftx8ft off wall to ceiling frames. 400 to be exact. RIP Keith.
These days of New York are over. You wouldn't be able to draw on the material they use for advertisements. City government, local police, the MTA, and I conjecture a few other entities have successfully repressed much of the artistic expression that made New York New York. I guess there's the Banksy dude.
When I was a kid, my older sister and I were visiting family in NY and stopped by the Pop Shop on Xmas Eve of '86. There was Keith in the corner by the front door dressed as Santa Claus. He signed his "Free South Africa" poster for us and wished us a Merry Christmas. A very cool moment!
I have so many favourite artists I love and until I found my most favourite artist is him. And sadly he died by Aids. So I wish I became a popular artist just like him.🥺🥺🥺🥺😭
Banksy is a complete hack who works only for attention and probably thinks AIDS is what he picks up from the government every week. The sweat Haring woke up in every morning was more meaningful than anything Banksy ever did
If Banksy wanted attention, he would not keep himself anonymous, and we would know who he really is! Not to take anything away from Haring, but you are an ass, and don't know what you are talking about...
any comparison to banksy is beyond insulting to haring's work and memory, sorry. and really insulting to the work of any legitimate, talented, marginalized street artist.
Keith Haring was way ahead of his time. His style of art fits perfectly today.
In more ways than one...
I'm not so sure about him "fitting in today" - for me, his stuff look like it's from the late 80's and early 90's, and like it couldn't have been done at any other time. Im glad you think it doesn't look out of place today, as his stuff is great.
Not his style of art! Look up Angel Ortiz he was the OG!
That phrase is old and tired and nonsense. It's time to retire it.
@@syrislonso9317
their styles are pretty different sooooo
I love his work and he seemed like a nice guy. RIP Keith
bluesugar58 he’s still alive
@@bepisguy1846 .. He died of AIDS in 1990.

Me too man... me too. Imagine all the beautiful things he could've made. Especially concerning all the problems of this year.
This dude was a bad-ass! I love his art. I remember seeing it everywhere when I was a little kid in the early 90s. Awesome stuff.
thewaywardpoet yup seen it everywhere in the early 90s
Same here! It was everywhere back in the day and has stuck with me for 25 years
Keith Haring was such an amazing artist, he really inspired me. My teacher always frowned upon my art style but hey who got accepted at the art academy of Breda? Not Hitler lol.
Do you have a website?
People who "commit" graffiti? "Lack of talent"? Wow....
lifestraight yeah because being told what to say through a teleprompter is talent I guess lol
@@juanaceves6363 lol he doesn't mean it, the teleprompter made him say it LMFAO
They don’t get it. But they consider Picasso art or Monet.
@@juanaceves6363 You had me at Teleprompter!
Keith Haring is an inspiraton, because he spread the message of love through his art, that everyone understood
We all miss you Keith, it's so unfair you have to pass away. Stay safe people!

I wish I could have bumped into him in the NYC subway doing some art! Such an amazing talent! And nice guy!
Keith harring was a true legend his vision was beyond fabulous. Gone too soon but will never be forgotten rest in paradise.
Just to think the people that got rid of his art could of made hundreds of thousands if not millions by reselling it once he passed.
But Keith didn't want to sell it he wanted to leave it for other people to see
@@Cyber_Starzz555 he literally sold his own work
#popshop
Yeah, "art" is just like junk bonds, no value except the hype to keep reselling them to someone else.
Yeah... gonna try to ignore the "lack of talent" intro. Short sighted 80's thinking I s'pose.
I was thinking the same thing, I was like wtf is he talking about
LOL
theRizz I was also trying to ignore that 2.
typical for the time period... especially coming from white conservative esc individuals
Yeah, I was like TF? Lol
Keith Haring is a legend....#Respect!
He deserved to see how truly cherished he was worldwide. RIP.
Love seeing this! Wonder what he could have done. So much loss in those years. I'm glad he still has relevance.
Man all for the love of the art despite the money he made
Simply inspiring
(Police) Yea, I just arrested that guy, and now he's making more money then I ever did.
The way it looks, I think he kinda begrudgingly did it because he had to, not because he wanted to.

The only people who disliked the video are homophobes and police officers lol #ArtForThePeople
I’m still stuck on the part where he said graffiti artists have no talent
On Monday we were answering and reading his documentary
GRANDE UOMO HARING!!!
1:06 That's the subway cop in thee film After Hours. ("Can I help you?")
"People who commit graffiti often share two things in common... Anonymity and a lack of talent!" 😂😂
Alguém pode me dizer se essas artes q ele fazia no metrô foram preservadas ou apagadas?
Great very interesting beautiful!!!! Great Dimension!!!!
Chalk drawings aren’t drawn on the sidewalk you know especially in crime scenes. Much love to the late great Keith Haring!
Currently in Juxtapoz. Image seen in this doc.
