Back in 1977 I was a broadcast talent and was on the air the day Elvis died. At the time I worked with Barry Chase. We did a two person show in afternoon drive on a radio station that no longer exists, but at the time it was WQXI. We Just happened to be on the air at the time the bulletin came over. Listen to live reaction as the news continued to come in. Elvis's age is incorrect on the audio. All information was gathered from associated press and united press international news wires in our studios. We were only the messenger and sure as hell didn't have google to fact check.

I remember saying to my 15 year old son when 9/11 happened, " This is your JFK & Elvis moment , you'll remember exactly where you were when you heard about this , and you'll be discussing this every now and again for the rest of your life ! "

I didn't believe it even though they announced it over the loudspeaker at work which was very unusual for them to do. Elvis always the best

I was 20 when Elvis died. I didn't believe my brother when he first told me. I told him not to make up stuff. Unfortunately, I learned soon after that he wasn't making it up. I was stunned. It just didn't seem possible that Elvis could be dead. I just saw the Elvis movie and would like to say that Austin Butler did the King proud.

I wasn't old enough to see elvis but I have always dreamed of what it would had felt like to experience, when I saw the elvis movie then I caught a feeling of all as I seen the clips of him on the big screen and that was the closest I'll ever get to feeling what it would have been ,

14:50 Making a reference to when one of The Beatles passes away. Scary to think that would come just 3 years later when John Lennon was shot.

    Hello from England
ELVIS died 2 days before my 12th birthday. It was a SHOCK. I remember watching the announcement on TV. Just think back in 1977 we only had 2 TV channels which were the BBC and ITV.
On the day of the funeral of ELVIS i was helping my mother in the kitchen make my cake. and we watched it but what sticks out in my memory was seeing all those White Cadillac's behind the hearse and there must have been 16 of them at least.
I have been a FAN for 44 years and will go on being one till i leave this earth.
He WAS and STILL IS my HERO. Its a strong word to use BUT ITS TRUE

I remember where I was at I was in Tustin California at my grandparents house, I was 10 yrs old when I seen it on the TV that Elvis had died I ran outside to tell my grandfather and his response was; "well it's about time"....
10 years later when my grandfather died and I was told about it,
I said: "yeah well it's about time"

I was in the dispatching office at the Memphis Fire Dept when the call came in. the guy next to me was talking to someone at graceland, turned to me and said...'they think Elvis may have died'.....the rest WAS of course...history'.

@leroy Leach. Wow, that's incredible. Thank you for the information. So you knew the two paramedics that were dispatched to Graceland that day Ulysses Jones Jr & Charlie Crosby?
I've heard for a long time that they didn't want to talk about it afterwards or they had been told/warned off not to discuss it with anyone. Is there any truth to this story?

    • @no288
      @no288 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They never mention Elvis. Ulysses Jones stated, when he testified back in 1980, that the call said, "party passed out, or party having difficulty breathing", They had no idea who it was, it could even have been a fan at the gate.

Elvis died ten days before my eight birthday. Two months before he passed my dad took me to the airport in Kansas City to see his jet. I became a mega fan that day. Love hearing this recording. I remember seeing all the news when he passed away but never heard anything on the radio. Somehow I thought radio in 1977 was poor quality, with static like AM or something. This sounds so good. Almost like it could have been recorded yesterday. Thanks for sharing.
